Hi, paellataffy here! I'm currently living in Estepona, Spain and interested in travelling to Turkey. I'm a 45 year-old (single) writer with five cats, attitude (the cats and moi!) and a ton of questions to ask! I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

Welcome - ask away.

Thanks Stoop! I'll try to pace myself so I don't swamp you! ;-)

Where is Estepona? I've not heard of it. We have some friends who live in Chiclana, near Cadiz.

Hey, that's not far, Stoop! One of my mates lives not far from Chiclana! Estepona is a pretty wide area, stretching from about five kms west of the actual town to about 17 kms east! I live about 10 kms out of the town in an animal park called Selwo. For location - think about halfway between Gibraltar and Marbella. Estepona (when I arrived in 1994) used to be a lovely, unpretentious little fishing town, but it is now obscenely over-developed - although still much nicer than Marbella!!!

Hi paellataffy welcome to the forum

Hi paellataffy and welcome - lots of information on here regarding a future visit

Thanks, both! I quite fancy Yalikavak - those windmills look very interesting. But I'm also investigating Fethiye!

Hi Paellataffy. Welcome to the forum. I am sure you will love Fethiye.

Hi and a warm welcome to the Forum. Fethiye is a great place but don't expect it to be too much like Spain. :)
-
been to yalikavak about 8 times loved the place until we found calis that was it hooked never been back to yalikavak
-
I'm hoping that it won't be like Spain!!! Locals are lovely, countryside is beautiful, but construction companies are greedy and have ruined everything. Expats are a little bit of a mixed bag - some decent but most out for what they can get. If you're not in a position to survive without working, don't even THINK of coming here! There are some good people (my current employers are great) but too few and far between. Am now determined to visit Fethiye - thank you all!
-
You won't be disappointed

if you are writing at the moment kas and kalkan maybe a nice place to try kas has a few jaz bars, both easy to travel to from fethiye it would be a good experience to visit all three, pensions are easy to find and you would see alot of the culture and to be honest most of turkey is great it would be a shame to only see one place

Hi Paellataffy
I visited Estepona a few years ago when my son was living there. He worked at Puerto Banus. He worked on the beach in the daytime at the watersports place, jetskis, parascending etc and as a Doorman at a table dancing club at night. Not a bad life eh :D:D
Calis is very different and far cheaper, I'm sure you'll love it.
All the best

I'm hoping for somewhere quiet, jj and kenkay! I am completely fed up with all the all-night parties that you get in the summer where people living in my complex seem to think that it's perfectly okay to maintain a daytime level of noise (which I find pretty unacceptable in the first place!) at 3:00 in the morning! Just hope it's quieter in Fethiye!
