Hi Bim
You will find it a totally different place out-of-season. All bar a couple of places in Hisaronu and Olu Deniz closed and very cold!  Important to check what the heating arrangements are - central heating or enough airconditioners with heating capability available.  You may find Fethiye a more lively location as only the Bazaar area tends to close down (and obviously most of the tours).

...and you may also find that up there the air conditioners that do a great job keeping you cool in summer will struggle to keep you warm in winter (unless you sellotape yourself to it).

It can get VERY cold down in Calis on a winter's night and even colder up the hill!

But, it is most definitely the best time to see Ovacik (and Olu Deniz in my opinion) - the days can be very sunny, nice and quiet -  and there are plenty of snowy mountains around.

We went to Olu Deniz in the winter a couple of years ago and there was hardly any Olu Deniz! They had knocked down all the beach front bars and the beach itself resembled a building site, big heaps of sand and cement and masonry. Even the road that goes down to the lagoon had been dug up and there was absolutely nothing open. There were a couple of places open in Hisaronu and it was definately quiet!

I found it freezing in October so I wouldnt be able to stand it any later- and I'm a roughty toughty northerner! Neither could I stand a seaside place 'closed'- it would depress me. Still each to their own.

I find that hard to believe.
Looking back through the records for the last 50 years, i can`t find one october day or night when the temperature dropped that low.

Definately best time to go. New years
Eve in Hisaronu there was a frost on the
car but new years day I sat in the market
eating fresh strawberries wearing a T shirt
Ive even been swimming early january and the
water is still warmer that it gets here!

Last October I do think the nights were colder
than usual the days were warm though

I have neither the time nor the inclination to go into the weather archives- however what I will say is that there was great drop in temperature when the sun set. The climatic difference from September the 15th when we returned to the UK and October the 14th when we returned to Calis was the difference between short sleeves and a warm jacket.

I would really like to go out to Ovacik in winter. It would be great to explore Kaya Koy, Letoon, Tlos, etc etc on a cool winters day, rather than in the heat of the summer, and I should imagine there are some lovely walks around the Ovacik area. I take it we would require additional heating though for the living room and bedroom of an evening!!

Sue,from what I can gather it is sunny and comfortable during the day but chilly at night, suggest continental quilts we are taking over in October. We had c/h installed when we had ours built as We considered being able to use itin winter. We may not get there for this new Year but maybe next.

My friends have a place in ovacik and go for chrismas every year most days were warmish, short sleeves cropped trousers and have spent christmas day picnicking on the beach with a turkish family.
They love walking and trevor has walk to the top of Babadag this year took about 9hrs I believe.
I was there in Feb a couple of years ago and it was lovely and sunny in olu deniz but as soon as that sun goes down you certainly feel the cold, I think a lot of it has to do with not being able to walk straight into centrally heated buildings like we are used to.

Remember to bring your rain-coats,as it rains like you would never believe,(spelt it correctly this time!)
air is a lot cleaner/clearer as rain keeps the dust down,LOL.

We were in Ovacik in January. It was like 'a spring day' during the day, but bitterly cold at night. Migros did a lovely line in brightly coloured duvets (of which we needed 2 each!!!!). It was worth it though and we now have aircon & a small heater in case we do it again. It was fabulous waking up each morning to see the snow a little further down the mountain than it had been the day before! Beautiful. And what a lovely way to spend the evening, in front of an open fire having a tipple. I would highly recommend it & hope that we will be there too. May see you in the Morning Star!

It can get cold - Ive been in Calis in February and it was defo feezing - water tanks were bursting! Bitter cold and not the luxury of central heating - but still warm in the heart  :)
