Hi everyone, my name is Avril(53), married to Brian(57) currently living in Cornwall, England. We hope to move to Turkey, Bodrum area within the next year or two, as permanent residence. We wouild be very grateful for ANY information which might help us especially with regard to cost of living, i.e. rates, taxes, electricity etc.
Have enjoyed reading some of the comments and see that there is grat banter on this site, keep it up. :)

Hi Avril - welcome to the forum. We have bought but yet to complete in Calis so also expect to use this site to gather immense amounts of useful information. We had planned to buy in Cornwall - however prices are very silly there now so-- off to Calis, and I think it could be a good move.

Have been to Bodrum area too but Fethyie coast is so much nicer!

Hi Avril, yes ditto to the above answers, we too have bought in Calis/Fethiye and one day hope to semi-retire there. It is my favourite destination in the whole world now, but when I was young every year we went to Cornwall with my parents and always had a great time. Its a great pity we dont get the weather in this country as it is so beautiful.

I`m different to the others, i`ve never been to Cornwall.
We have bought a place in Calis and will be moving there as soon as we have sold our house here.
Can`t help with the bills question i`m afraid, as we haven`t had our first ones yet, though the council tax is between £30 & £60 a year in Calis, might be different in Bodrum.

I rememebr a few threads on bills. Try the search facilty putting in 'bills' and see what comes up.

Search maintenance costs there are plenty on here somewhere I think ours are about £13.00 per month my water bill is £24.00 need to pay that in May

hi guys, thanks for the welcome, i enjoy this site and will keep refering to it. Heidi thanks for the introduction, already getting a feel for life in turkey. Not only are the turks friendly, it would seem there is a great circle of friends awaiting our arrival. will visit when we come over in summer.

:)Hi Tel. we are in Liskeard, just a quick hop from you in big old Plymouth. No, sorry we aren't buying Bodrum castle, merely a small dwelling for the two of us , and hopefully room for a couple of visitors occasionaly. How about you, what are thinking of buying? and where? Didn't know there were so many people ready to buy in Turkey till I was introduced to this forum, great isn't it.
