The currency rates quoted on the page can come from a variety of sources, e.g. Yahoo Finance, IMF etc, depending on what is the most accessible that day.  They're merely a guide to the current state of the currency market and not a definitive exchange rate.  Although saying that, I think it was showing 2.67YTL a couple of days ago so 2.65YTL isn't that far out.

I'm working on an updated Snitz modification that gets the rates from the Turkish Central Bank but having a few problems with the license for the data feed.  Personally I don't think their figures will be much different to those from Yahoo etc, but it will be a live rate - as opposed to the delayed rate (by about 20mins I think) it is just now.

Alan,

I think the exchange rate is what you will get if you transfer money or take it out of the hole in the wall. Usually the 'tourist rate' is what you get in the exchange shops etc. They may state 'no commission' but they make their money by giving you a few points under the official exchange rate.

I suppose everyone has to make a living.

As Stuart has said. Change in one of the banks.Less risk and always a better exchange rate than the money changers.

That's very interesting Dave. I'll certainly keep an eye out for the rise. If the rate does as you suggest rise to over 3YTL, would you recommend buying then because that is liable to be the high point.

Would also be very interested in your reasoning behind your thoughts.

Has it anything to do with the present protests and uncertainty.

i have said this before that the best rate is hole in the wall i use nationwide and no-one can give better than that ,i do not pay charges and if i use credit card also do not pay any charges .
ps i have found one disadvantage is that the ice cream parlour charge alittle bit more for the flake on a 99 than the hole in the wall!!

Out of interest Highlander - which website did you get that graph from?
It's much easier to see trends that way than a list of exchange rates.

Linda - the good old BBC - www.bbc.co.uk and search exchange rates.

Take care
