Title: A road ???????
Post by: miaspyro on May 17, 2007, 17:33:35 PM
Its the early hours of the morning, all of a sudden the peace is shattered, a rumble, a crashing, shouting, running water :o.  Is it an alien, is it an earthquake, is it union jack Bridget's arriving. No it's the ROAD :o.  All Day long, they have been scrapping watering and steamrollering our poor little dirt tracks.  I am told by someone, who spoke to someone, who knows someone, who is married to the great niece of someone, that we are getting a proper road, and a dolmus this year, in fact this month:D:D:D.

I know it may all be a dream but, i have never seen the main road through the village so flat, so maybe, just maybe we might be getting a real surfaced road very soon.  Will keep you updated very soon.  Watch this space !!!!!!!!!![8)]

No problem. Got a new camera this morning. Don't expect too much though. Odds currently are:
6/1 Started to build a block paved road
18/1 Road built as far as Green Valley
50/1 Road up to Forest Hill Houses
100/1 Dolmus going up the roads

Nice one !!!!!  If you are clever enough Doug to work out the odds on the levels and expectations of 'the' road, then I am almost certain you will be able to work the new camera!  Anyway you have young lads who are up on these sort of things - technology seems to come second nature to our kids these days - get the kids to work it out then get them to teach you! :-)

Sorry to be the bringer of bad tidings, but you may find that all that is being done is "CANALISATION", in other words, tearing up existing roads to install mains sewerage system. It's going on all over, in fact, I can see/hear the road on the other side of "our" canal being ripped apart as I type this :o
We are in Akarca, by the way.
Our friends had a lovely, level paved road outside their villa, and, after "Canalisation", it was left like a Baghdad bomb-site 8)

I am so glad we are not hiring a limo then this holiday! hahaha  Will have to stick to the old sahin for the time being still!  To be fair - there is still so much building work being done up our way still- they are not going to be concentrating on the roads too much yet until all the construction workers (or at least the majority) have gone.  At this rate - by the time we retire there it 'should' all be finished :-)

Please Gordon tell me this cant be true, we have been dug up so many times that the underground streams are getting confused.  A short while ago 2 lots of black pipe where laid to rest, one was for water the other, anybodies guess.  Oh please tell me that we have already been canonised or what ever you said.  My poor little car hopes beyond hope that you are wrong and that she will no longer have to endure the shattering (literally) experience of our roads for an afternoon in Calis.

We went into the Viewpoint office at the bottom of the hill who are building on the slopes to the left.
They confirmed that they received a definite confirmation from the council that the roads were to be completed before their scheduled total completion of the whole complex in Summer 2008.I understand that there have been further discussions regarding their area on the left as the council were suggesting their area of road be delayed until their hilltop complex was completed.
Whilst we were there there was considerable widening of the road/track in some areas with gullies being dug out etc so we are sure it wont be that long but I think 2008 is the best bet for it which is when the biggest development of "Viewpoint" will be finished.
I think a lot hinges on this as the judiciary are involved plus local Turkish housing to the rear of it and this has a major influence on the council decisions about valley completion

We flew back yesterday. I have a few photographs of the roads and general Green Valley area and am happy to send to anyone contacting me via my profile. The council have put in place most of the water pipes within the area now and once connected to the water supply they can build the roads.

Hi mate
The land to the side of us on the bend and the bit at the front is causing some concern as it is owned by Affinity and there are rumours of Green valley2 in the same format higher up our valley.
The original Green Valley complex is huge with the pool and walks and bar etc and that land beside us will no way be large enough for a similar complex.
Have you seen any updates from the Forest Hills people.
Another member on here ,Gorgeous bird, has been very helpful and offered to keep her ears openbut the rumour re Green Valley2 is floating around but where on earth will they put it as a project that size up here higher in the valley.
I know that smallish plot is owned by Affinity according to John and Pam but theres no room for such a major complex like the original.
We may be paranoid but is it worth objecting early to the council in case

I asked Bill whether he had heard anything re the land next to us owned by Infinity (thinking this might be Green Valley 2) but he told me that at the moment there are no plans to build this second complex. Instead we believe the land has been bought by two Russian investors. Apparently there is a lot of land around Fethiye being bought by Russians at the moment - purely as investments until land price rises further. I suspect they will hold on until most of the infrastructure is in place and then sell.

The spare land down the middle ,to the left of G V as you look up is apparently going to be parking spaces and green areas with a childrens park lower down.there isn't enough room to build appts in that strip of land(fingers crossed)

The land in question is further up the hill to the right of the Forest Hill apartments as you look up the hill. Last summer the people who work at Green Valley said that Infinity had bought the land with the intention of building Green Valley 2. Wether or not that is the case is not clear, nor is the detail on what the apartment complex will look like i.e. on the same scale as Green valley or much smaller. Personally speaking I think they could do with selling the 20 some apartments they already have on Green valley that are sitting empty before building more. Only time will tell. I do beleive that the area to the rear of Green valley is supposedly ear marked for a childrens play area, however I wouldn't be surprised to go out there on a visist and discover another apartment block!

Do you mean to the right of the bend on the slope of the valley side as the road with telegraph poles runs right around that bend leaving a small plot on the corner. I only ask because to the right of Forest hills is the valley side and this small plot is in front of Forest Hills. You  might get a couple villas on it at most.
Happymonday says that Russien businessmen have bought it as investment so perhapa Afinity have sold it on .
Thanks for that info

I think I know where Gorgeous Bird means - the area opposite where Mehmet (our watchman, gardener etc) lives. There was talk about a development being in that space and it is probably a good site.

Since the Co-operative apartments have gone up opposite and the electricity sub station ,its quite narrow though for a GV type one.

I dont think the council will go that far until the "Viewpoint" development on the valley slope is completed in 2008 as too many trucks about yet.
The developers had set out demands to the council before commencing the site and this involved the road completion but they arent sure the council will attempt it until their construction work has finished and the valley is quieter.

Just got back this morning - and yes afraid so - it is still going on - but not so bad.  I think that you will be surprised at the latest developments around the complex.  There are bridges now - and the area is very rough all around - but after all - it is still 'very much' work in progress everywhere.  It will be a fair few years before everything is as it should be in the area.  Also - just to advise - the temperatures were over 55 degrees.  There are reports that next week the temperatures will be 62 degrees!  It is so hot you cannot sit out in it.  It seems that they have not had these temperatures for a fair few years!

Should be a good night.  Her birthday is the day before we come home - so then it will be another night out for friends an family.  She had a huge party for her 18th - so it will not be so big for her 21st!

Today the 12th Sept it would appear that the road building program has started.  There has been white gravel very neatly laid up the middle of the road on the mountain side of the valley (the new road from the Arpi to Forest hill).  Also all little roads seem to have been treated to to a layer of some sort of hardcore.  Let hope this is finally the real thing.

Just a quick up date, and not a pig in sight.  As you are looking up the mountain all the roads on the left hand side, both main ones and side roads, now have a pile of gravel running through the middle.  It is similar to the gravel used when the powers that be are going to tarmac a road, either that or they are making mini roads for bikes and scooters.  I think this may be it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  For anyone living in Forest Hill (Turkey not London) you have a line of gravel as well, so you had better hope it don't rain or your gravel will end up in my front garden. Keep everything crossed. That's all for now Mia

One of my neighbours was told by the Mayor of Fethiye a few months ago that roads would be finished this year. However, having heard this sort of thing before I took no notice of it. Still being a little sceptical - didn't they do this about a year ago when the dirt roads became almost impassible?

Hi Terry and Sue. This info originally came from our neighbour Ken who knows someone very friendly with the Mayor. He sent me an email today to say the following:

"The roads are going in.  The two main roads up the hill and some of the side roads.   It appears that the roads around Forest Hills are down to Ali Yenek to put in, so we don't know when that will happen."

Breaking news - They've started the TARMAC today !!!!!
The road from ARPI shop upto the crossroads where you can see zeki baba has been tarmac'd.
Main road that runs along canal past Irem Bufe and up past green valley has had the hardcore levelled ready for tarmac.
Things are looking good !!!

On closer inspection.........
It may have been more accurate to say that the gravel has been painted black !!!
The thickest bits are about a centimetre. How do i know that? - Because it's started to lift off and break-up where the cars have driven on it !!
However, being as though i'm an optimist, i'm hoping that this is just an "undercoat" to seal the gravel before the proper stuff is laid.
We'll have to wait and see.
BTW there are now several roads painted black !!

When the new main road was built they put layers of tarmac and stone chips i think this may be because of the heat.  I dont care we have a road a level road, and if tarmaced it is a bonus.  No MORE RED DUST he he he.

Virtually all roads now levelled.
The tarmac (paint!!) has been covered with a layer of stones and that is apparently the end result. Many roads now tarmac'd - looks like it will all be done before winter. (insallah)

The big question is "is it better than before and similar to the Olu Deniz road covering when that was done as thats a lot better now settled down. Any pictures possible as its difficult to imagine it?
Have they done or are they doing right up to Forest Hills and that slope up from Green Valley area?
Title: A road ???????
Post by: chewyturk on October 02, 2007, 09:38:50 AM
I think it will need to settle down and the loose stones driven-off by the traffic. Not exactly sure where Forest Hills are but smooth and level roads area in front of Green Valley and roads that go further up (on both sides). Most of bottom now tarmac done/being done. All top area (past Zeki Baba) level and waiting for Tarmac. Not seen any piles of stones anywhere i've walked recently. Will take a photo and try and upload it.

Many thanks for this. Sounds like it is progressing fast. My understanding is that for Forest Hills the main road up to the complex will be done but the road that custs through and adjacent to the two complex areas is up to the developer (Ali Yenik) to do so unlikely to happen in short term.

Thats really kind of you to bother to walk up to Forest hills and confirm the in between road is levelled so hopefully after the sticky tar and stones job it will be great.
Any pics would be great for all us UK bound excited owners haha.
Much obliged.

Just a quick message for Loz on here who was so helpful to us during our purchase taking pictures before she moved to Calis.
"You can see the relief here at last regarding our roads , Loz, and things are moving now. Your messages and emails over the past year or more have been much appreciated and the funicular lift from the main road up to Forest Hills is now in operation" ONLY KIDDING!!"

Up our way the main roads have been sprayed with tar and chippings laid down but the work seems to have come to a stop now. The rest of the tar hasn't been covered and is still sticky due to the heat.
