I am thinking deeply (no honest) about this subject. Since day 1, using the CBF as a free tool for publicity has been frowned upon (in the early days it was mainly estate agents who had no shame posting self-promoting adverts.
Recent threads started by bars and restaurants (Bus Stop, new kebab restaurant etc) are difficult to administer as explaining the difference between information (CBF is primarily an information website) and chat is difficult.
I am aware that there is also a thin line between keeping in touch and blatant advertising.
Some of our most colourful locals are working in bars etc (obviously) and it is always good to hear who is where and what they are up to.
What I propose is to allow just bar and restaurant staff to use the CBF to keep in touch with us all, with full responsibility falling on all CBF members not to turn it into a long boring chat thread.
That is the proposal, any thoughts?
-
I think that would work well if they post to keep everybody else informed of changes, new staff etc. Anything to do with the bar and if any CBF membrs want to chat with them they can email them through their profiles. Or even on the Calis beach chatroom.
Saves everybody having to read the same threads all of the time.

I agree it`s a fairly good idea (only "fairly" because it wasn`t mine :D ), though I propose that if a thread on any establishment turns into a chatroom, then said thread be deleted, and that bar/restaurant be shown a yellow card, then banned from further paticipation if it happens again.

Great idea!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a good plan to me :)

I agree with both Crabbit and Scunner (go lie down me thinks)

Hi Guys
If bar staff and owners want to keep in touch with there customers and vice verca, why not set up a regular time in the chatroom to meet e.g Bus stop Monday at 6pm.That way people people will have a regular contact and maybe get to know each other a bit better.
Regards

Maybe it's cos i'm older, but i don't think it is really needed, considering how many members write about scarlett bar and bus stop, there's not many members of bus stop & scarlett forum, if they want to chat then just give each other their e-mail addresses, when i was in England if Mustafa from scarlett wanted a chat he always shouted me while he was offline,he has that many that have his address i think he talks to who he wants when he has the time, which is even less now he has a baby, as i said maybe it's cos i'm old. Might be a bit difficult for staff and owenrs as they will be in the bars working
-
Snowballs chance in Hell of stopping them developing into boring chats!:D
-
Agreed tribalder.

But you also must understand that we as Moderators have to look at the thread for maybe a couple of hours to decide if its only info or turning into chat when we have made our decision we lock the subject we do try to not let these threads get out of hand,
We also know most of the Guys in all the bars and we tend to have to play Devils Advocate on many occasions and what i would appreciate is members not contacting us on our email complaining and asking why we have locked said thread
thankyou
Ron

Better still bar & restaurant owners could post there latest discounts and offers
Before Friday please just so I know before I come out there.

I think that Scunner's thin line between keeping in touch and blatant advertising has increased in width recently. So many threads now contain references to or photographs of the premises and it's menu that Somine Kebap seems to enjoy a privileged position on CBF. Or am I wrong? I posted a favourable comment on the premises as I did on various other restaurants and bars none of which received the level of publicity allowed to Somine Kebap. Some contributors to CBF have been smacked down very sharply when suspected of trying for free advertising. Are the rules different for Somine Kebap?
-
Please be assured that Somine Kebap has already been warned with regard to advertising on here
thank you
Ron
-
Am I alone in thinking the Somine Kebap threads were actually good threads they were interesting and informative that did provoke a lot of interaction between members over the last couple of days.
Yes he was promoting his bar, but he was also asking questions as to what the public wanted, and making people aware of the changes that have been and new menu additions etc.
Not the blatant just an advert posts we have seen before.

-
I went over the posts that were made Tink. I don't see where we crossed the line to be honest. I had a bit of a laugh and joke with members and as it was the new discussion part of the restaurant and bar forum and it was all contained in OUR thread I didn't think it would offend.
Most of the advertising comes from members requesting information ie. "please post the menu" So I do. We are cooking a whole lamb on Tuesday nights, I didn't see any harm. I really thought members would be interested to hear of new offers or special nights, that's what makes members' holidays special and why I created a new thread about cooking a whole lamb every week. It was new news and pertinent to this forum description. I am sorry if we caused any offense or broke rules as it wasn't intended.
I also participate in all the other open forums and try to help members where I have the knowledge.
Sorry guys/gals.

No Tinks, I too was very surprised that such a helpful & informative contributor's post was locked :( Don't want to fall out with Ron but, really don't understand, lots of members very happy to be kept informed & updated, good, friendly banter, 1/2 objected, post locked [?]
-
I think perhaps the rules need better defining because we never intended causing offense nor do we want to be known as spammers. Looking over the old thread I don't see where we crossed the line. The old post that was made that included an email contact address were never addressed until today. We live and learn.
Moreso, I thought now the restaurant forum had been split into reviews and discussion it was ok to have a banter thread in discussion that was contained within our own thread. So why is it closed. If I want to post anything what do I do? There was some nice reviews in the thread, now they are destined for the graveyard.

We really are experts at this and want to provide a really good evening that members will remember.
We would need to see a minimum booking of 20 members. The cost would work out at 20 lira per person and there would be more than ample to please even Crabbit

If you are interested please add your name and party numbers. If you want more info email to*************

As I said in my email to you - the above post that I locked over stepped the mark. It was not just me that noticed this. The forum rules are quite clear regarding the posting of email addresses and phone numbers - they are only allowed in the local services section.
I also explained that I have no problem with you letting members know if you have any special nights planned. I hope your business is filled with CB members and I look forward to the first review from one.
Stoop :)
-
No Stoop, I did not miss that one and you are probably correct on that particular post, but I cannot see why the others have been locked after 10 pages of social interaction from members none of which complained.

Tinx - I've emailed you direct. Pointles going over and over this on here.

Ive been a member of this forum for a while but its very rare that i write anything as i tend to prefer to listen to peoples opinions rather than air mine. However I just had to write something on this topic as to be honest I really dont understand what the problem is, if people are not aware of what is going on, special offers etc then they will end up going to the same bar and restaurant for most of the time they are in calis which is a shame because there is so much variety out there.
Many of the posts on this forum turn into chat not just the ones concerning restaurants and bars but they are not locked! I thought that this forum was supposed to be about sharing information but when bar and restaurant owners share information about their establishments they are criticised yet at the same time on various threads prominent members have blatent chats and those threads are not locked or commented on and I was wondering why?
-
In hindsight, I take on the point about posting telephone numbers and our email address. It was a case really of wanting to share good news rather than abuse. It wont happen again, but it would be nice if the original thread could be reopened so new members who join can also see other members approval. Some members prefer not to write a complete review and just add one liners which that thread contains many.
-
I'm aware that this is a difficult one to call but I think Scunner's intetions are pretty clear below.
As I have said on numerous occasions now - there are no problems with letting members know what is going on and who is where etc UNLESS it crosses the line into CHAT or BLATANT ADVERTISING.
Scunner's intentions for that section was:
to allow just bar and restaurant staff to use the CBF to keep in touch with us all, with full responsibility falling on all CBF members not to turn it into a long boring chat thread.
Sorry if some are upset at me locking the topic but as I have said - no problems with anyone opening an information topic about their bar or restaurant - as long as thet stick to the rules.
Just start another thread if you want but stick within the guidlines.

Reviews are for the review section NOT the bar and restaurant section your thread was in. If people want to leave reviews (good or bad) about Sominekebap then there are no problems with that.
The thread locked was one by you telling eveyone that you have a special lamb fest on Tuesday. No need to re-open that as anyone can contact you direct if they want to book or need more info.
Also the thread is LOCKED not DELETED so new and old members can still see your post
:)

Which Tuesday is the Lambfest on ? :D

Why not have a section where restaurant owner or staff CAN blatantly advertise and make it a free for all, surely that would sort that problem and the good people can choose whether or not they want to read that particular section?

Steve,
That's Scunner's shout. I don't know if he would want to pay for others to advertise - after all it's he who pays for the bandwidth. If it happens I vote not to be a moderator on that particular section -LOL:D

if they just want to just blatantly advertise they can pay for it,
However if they want to make an effort in keeping us up to date with whats going on and also bring something to the table, within the forum, I personally think it is fine, but Im a mere mod.
Tink ;)

Nice pun there Tinks :)

Fair point Tinks.
however, If you had a free for all where the restaurant owners could post details it would surley become a heavily congested section and after time people wouldn't bother looking anymore at that section but if the restaurant owner want their place to stick out from the rest perhaps they should consider paying for a quality looking advert like banners at the top of this page.
-
I dont think that most bars would make the effort to make it interesting and up to date.
I do think it would only be two or three participating, we will see/
Tink
-
It would be an interesting experiment eh Tinks

We would be happy to contribute to forum costs and have already approached Scunner a couple of weeks ago. Just waiting for the new website to be completed.
