Title: Insurance Premiums
Post by: Highlander on July 08, 2007, 17:10:36 PM
Last year Mrs H and I had an ingress of water into the house - it wasn't a flood -  it was caused by the Council's failure to maintaing the drainage system properly.

This week we received a letter from Zurich stating that "according to our data you live in an "area of significant flood risk".

We live approximately 80m above level !!!!!!!!!! and all the ground slopea AWAY from our house.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA)have proved very helpful in this regard.

The purpose of this post is to advise people of what insurance companies apparently can and cannot do. Here is an extract from SEPA's reply

"the current licence under which interested parties, such as insurance companies, are able to gain access to flood maps does not allow them to use it for commercial purposes (e.g. to adjust their premiums)".

Is this is of any help to the people of Hull and other places around England it will have served its purpose.
