It's passable and the Dolmus are using it, but it's somewhat bumpy!
They are still working on a number of side roads, so maybe resurfacing
will take place when the whole job is completed.

it,s horrendous our neighbour nearly came off his bike after they had sprayed the road with water to keep the dust down and turned it into a muddy mire

Its the new government directive on traffic calming measures, combined with preventing cyclists and motor cyclists riding on the pavement.

All at no extra cost. How's that for economics.

It's ridiculous, that looks worse than Beirut and they are moaning that the tourists are not coming in the sort of numbers they had expected!

You don't see roads in tourist areas of Spain, Portugal, Cyprus etc in that state, so why does Turkey think it's acceptable?

Granted, Gulukbasi is not in itself a tourist area, but 80% of people who go the tuesday market pass up and down that road. What sort of picture does that paint to new visitors?

It's a disgrace.

We arrived back last Monday, we have a place in Gunlukbasi and yes you are right it is like Beruit, that were my wifes exact words, have since heard that resurfacing will be starting in Aug sometime, wont hold breat, would like to see it all monoblock and central reservation like Migros road but will need to wait and see, still the main Dalaman and Muglu road.

I guess it will be another tarmac road. If they Belediye want to save some money, they can come to my house and scrape all the tarmac off the doors of my car.

Daft thing is, they could do it all in winter, and have it ready for summer, but that's too easy, they start it at the beginning of summer and upset everyone, then wonder why nobody visits. Alan

Regulars will remember they did the road a few years back when they put in the new sewer system, then they tidied up and did all the block paving pavements, then they came and planted palm trees along the road.

Next step, dig the bleedin lot up again, it's madness.

It's a mess alright.  It's really hard going on foot with pavers lying at all angles and piled everywhere.  It's the poor shopkeepers I feel sorry for. Lets just hope it truly is in the name of progress.

We were there middle of June and it was horrendous.  Our new place is being built in Gunlukbasi (should be finished end of year) Taking my brother out there in August to see where he has invested his money - hope there is some improvement or he will think I have gone slightly dotty!!!

i was out on the road yesterday, its like going back in time
they have even ruined the walkways
the shopkeepers must be suffering as no one wants to shop in a dusty
dirty place
it really does the place no justice

No difference at all! I think they are waiting for the traffic that does still use the road to level the surface and then they will fix: :) ;)

The dolmus are continuing to zigzag wending their way through the back roads, until they encounter one that is also in the process of being dug up!

We travelled through there in August with our 11 year old grand daughter, and she said "has it been bombed here"
Sure it will be worth it in the end

The canalisation and all water work is finished on the main road. The work was not started earlier because the money hadn't been allocated, I understand.
Some work is being completed on minor roads.
The resurfacing is due to start anytime now.
This was an extensive project to improve infrastructure. It just has to be lived with.

Tried to drive down it today near the Shell garage and had to give up. Reversed up the road and followed a dolmus.
Absolutely awful, even a four by four would struggle.

Lisa S,
I thought it was the main gateway into Fethiye, or it has been the years I have been here.  Tourists cringe when they suffer the indignity of the route. Not the best months to pick and I bet the shop keepers are well down on takings.  Drains are usually to the side of the road and the drains that go across the main road, I would have thought wouldn't disrupt the whole length of the road. Homeowners nearby I guess are happy to0.

The photos are to show the ones who dont live here that the resurfacing is begining, I personally wish them to leave it the way it is, the road is so much quieter, except for the dust!

I feel sorry for the shopkeepers, they have suffered the whole season, a few of them have had to close and they doubt if they will re open, rents are to be higher for some because of a nice shiny road.

When the new road opened splitting the resort in two, it was not used as much, then the powers that be started work on the Gunlukbsi roads and Karachulla road, forcing traffic on to the main road, now they have got used to new Calis road are they planning on calming the Gunlukbsi road (I hope so).  but the new road from Calis to Fethiye is an accident waiting, watching young children (and adults) trying to cross this section is heart stopping at times, especially when you see someone who is not so steady on their feet climbing the high central reservation.

As for re-surfacing, they are working today, there is very little "bottoming" so if we have rain as we did 3-4 years ago the road is not going to last the winter season, therefore, will have to be done again next year,  oh well I guess that is what is sadly named as progress.
