According to todays Sun Newspaper :-\.....
Wear patterned clothes, mosquitoes are attracted to plain colours especially electric blue.
My first thought was the Von Trapp family dressed in the old curtains, then I thought of Scunner and Crabbit walking down the prom in the same attire :-\ :-\

Slap the little b*stards.

Wouldn't you rather wear some nice PATTERNED clothes:D

I didn't get ANY last week! Used jungle formula for the first time and that seemed to work. I was amazed, im usually covered in them.

Amazing - someone who reads the Sun.

Both Cavfan and myself have over the years used everything that was possible to use, including jungle formula, deet and practically every plug in contraption ever invented, we now think that we have finally beaten the little b..tards ! For the past two years we have been taking Vitamin B1 tablets. We take one a day , every morning for two weeks prior to the holiday and every morning whilst there. I believe they contain something that is contained in Marmite which the mozzys hate. Neither of us have been bitten in 4 holidays to Calis in the last two years.
RESULT !

I really think different things work for different people.

You are right, Vitamin B1 ;)

This is a great help. Having tried garlic tablets and various lotions and potions, I had a nice few weeks with no bites and then somehow got 96 bites (at last count) on my second from last night in Calis despite using half a bottle of repellant spray!
Subsequently I'm scratching like crazy!
Will get down to Boots from those vitamin B1s!
Thanks guys.

They also don't like citronella.
-
We got it wrong and ended up taking B6 - still didn't get bitten though!
-
not many mozzies around at the moment - people are saying it is the lack of rain last winter and everywhere is too dry. Don't know if that is true - but not complaining.
-
Tha Sun also recommended Martmite (which I take 2 weeks before I go and it works!). Also deet throws them off the scent. I use this on an evening.
Evidently you should not wear perfume or aftershave as this attracts them.
Failing all else - do as Crabbitt says 'Slap the little b*stards'.
-
As I said before, the little b*stards have an aversion to being slapped.

Not sure Moe but we buy them from Holland and Barrett so you could ask in there or Boots would know. Cant believe we havent been bitten for two years. We still spray the apt with that stuff called raid and spray deet on so we try to cover all angles.
-
My sister and I have just come back and she used citronella which she bought in Holland and Barrett she only got one bite and that was a night she forgot to put it on, so it must work, I shall be buying some for my next visit!

Although it's been advocated on here since I joined (around April 2005), Marmite finally made the Daily Express today. It was reccommended as a mozzy repellant due to it's vitamin B content. This is after speculation of a high mozzy count in the UK due to high humidity as a heatwave will follow the floods.
Well done CBF

Mosiguard is exellent. Used to work at a Doctors and this is the product that they recommend at Travel Clinics when people go off to the jungle etc.... has always worked for us.
-
wife has just bought some patches from www.naturalpatches.co.uk and they stick on like the stop smoking patch thingys, they are waterproof etc and you change the patch every 36 hours for a fresh one, they are about £15 for 15 days worth, they release about 70mg of thiamine into your body which when released through your pores, sweat etc, mossies really hate and will stay away, debbs get really bitten alot so will be interesting to see if they really work, go away 10th august for fortnight, so will let you know on our return if they worked
mark and debbs

Youv'e got plenty of time Moe, you only need to start taking them two weeks before you go.
