:)I am not a big fish fan at all, just the battered boneless type for me, I have had trout in Calis, but whats your favourite fish, and the most unusual fish you have dared to try,and where. ;)

I love Swordfish.  That has to be my favourite.  I had a small tuna at the Duck Pond in Fethiye and it was lovely.
I had a fish platter in Jersey one night and it was the first time I had oyster. I looked at it in disgust and poured out the water that it was floating in to the disgust of all the fish eaters that seemed to think it was the best bit :-\  The rest was things in shells that I could not put in my mouth.  I woke in the middle of the night to projectile vomiting.  Now I only eat cooked fish.

:D We sat and ate a basket full of mussels with Musti, Murat and Savas in Scarletts in June, the next day the thought of it made me sick, but still done it again a few nights later, I think its only the lemon and peppper that appeal to me, its certainly not the texture, Last year a friend of ours was working on the docks and bought us a monk fish home, the bloody thing was big enough to work, and so ugly, my daughter cooked it for the cats.:P

Hi not a great fish eater smoked haddock the best i think ,bass halibut ,turbot, the weirdest but absolutely gorgeous was goat fish stuffed with fresh toms garlic onion and herbs, served in a beach shack restaurant in Goa unlike me i moaned the day before about fish being to small so this guy said you come tomorrow i get good fish for you and big  ,in fact it was so big only the body fitted on plate i could only eat one side good job it only cost about £4.50 with chips and salad both on side plates, mind you that was 12 years ago must be at least a fiver now .

I like fish and always try the local varieties wherever I go which is now Ovacik,Fethiye. My favourites are Sea bream or Sea bass,I like Scottish Halibut as it has a rich meaty taste and also Fresh Yellowfin Tuna.I can not believe your daughter gave the monkfish to the cats you should have tried it, especially the tail end.Like with most fish you eat cod, haddock etc they are are big and not pretty but then you only eat steaks and fillets off them and would not put a whole one on your plate.

Was in Playa del Carmen in Mexico about six years ago and being jet-lagged I was walking on the beach about 4 am. Two fishermen brought in a giant hammerhead shark they had caught from what looked like a small rowing boat.

Needless to say, in all the local restaurants for the next few days all you could get was shark steaks. Very tasty, Firmer than swordfish, I sometimes buy shark from Tesco's when it turns up.

My real favourite fish is monkfish tails, delicious wehen baked

I love salmon especially smoked salmon with lots of lemon juice and crusty bread....uhmmmm.
Enjoyed the trout at Yakka Park my son keeps asking me to buy it for him here but I am sure it won't be the same as sitting in the Turkish sunshine eating it on my patio in the rain!!

I am not a great fish eater, but find it hard to get through most meals I have in Calis or Fethiye (they are always nice but too much) so in June I tried the swordfish kebabs at Yakamoz in Fethiye and they were great.

An Arbroath Smokie (smoked haddock) especially if you actually buy it in Arbroath. There are many small businesses in the town preparing smoked fish and the quality is far ahead of what can be bought from retailers. Lots of other smoked fish available but  nothing to compare with the haddock,in my opinion.

More years ago than I would like to remember, as a young man I used to dive off the Cornish coast for Crayfish, sweeter than lobster and when you cook the tail (which apart from the claws is all you eat,) cut in half lengthways, butter and lemon with black pepper, grilled for a few minutes - heaven :D:D

Even better, when we were decompressing after deep dives, our boatman would motor off a little way and "whiff" for Mackerel. Anybody who has had one of these fish cooked straight out of the sea within 20 minutes of being caught still having all its natural oils will know what I mean, even better than heaven - PARADISE !!!!

My dad used to go fishing at night and we often had trout in the morning when we woke up.  Would love to have that opportunity now that I could really appreciate it.  We also got occasional salmon, sea trout and venison.  Mince was a luxury we had to pay for it ;) ;)

:) I would really like to appreciate fish, last year the manager of the hotel we were staying at in Pattaya took us to a fish restaurant, he was a cracking french guy and his wife was from Pattaya, the conversation went from football to fish.!(dont ask) and the restaurant we went to  you people would probably love, as you walked in there were tanks everywhere, thank heavens he did all of the ordering,we had about 8 courses of fish, I only tried 2, he taught me that it was an experience that woke your taste buds, I just could'nt do it and had to pretend I was eating something else,Which tells me I am a skinless, boneless cod in batter person when the fancy takes me.(p.s. he paid the bill) ;)

I was a veggie for 8 yrs and during a 3 week holiday on a remote Greek island I decided Id had enough of feta cheese salad so burnt my bridges and ordered fish...the cute waiter assured me it would be sword fish steak without any trace of an eye or a tail....but u guessed it when it arrived it had head eyes tail belly button and all! I couldnt face it so ended up eating my boyfriends beef stew...which made me ill for days... :) I do eat meat and fish now tho.

Theory is wrong Tink

Our salmon is renowned as the best.
Smokeys --the same
Trout --delicious
Farmed stuff is a joke
So is Haggis or is it an acquired taste????

You would need to dare me to eat it ;)

I reckon if you did a survey on haggis there would be more tourists than Scots eating it.

Hubby keeps moaning that we don't eat enough fish so tonight we are having sea bass with bulgar pilaff. This is all in honour of having just come back from fethiye. Not a cheap meal though just for the 3 beefsteak tomatoes for the sauce it cost me £1.50- that would buy me a kilo in the fruit and veg market on a Friday. Gutted to be home but tonight we will be pretending to be back with the meal, Tarkan on the stereo and a bottle of Kaya red wine given to us by a friend whilst out there who said it was the very best. Trouble is I will still wake up in Northampton tomorrow morning! (http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/animals/animal0028.gif) (http://www.mysmiley.net)

Talk about one mans meat (or fish) !  I think I would rather eat my own arm than eat Salmon, the taste makes me want to heave . My wife Cavfan loves it and I cook it for her and have some lovely recipes for it, but eat it? Ugh never  ;)

Additional Scottish food worth mentioning.

The steak pie.
The morning roll with any filling of your choice.
The square sliced sausage - see above.
Stovies.
Tatties & mince or Mince & tatties(dependant on your domicile)
Scotch broth.
Haggis- I agree is an acquired taste.
Irn Bru - perhaps not a food but has kept a lot of people alive until they reached safety.

Irn Bru ==hangover cure.
According to my son. He insisted that we brought it to him in Jersey when he lived there, but it had to be in a glass bottle.  That and square sausage and tattie scones
