We will be staying at our house in Calis for ten days from September 28th and have just discovered that some friends have booked a holiday in Marmaris for the same dates.
They would like to visit us in Calis and stay for one night.
Is there a good way to get to Calis/Fethiye/Olu Deniz from Marmaris (ferry maybe ?).
I am guessing that the only way would be by bus - does anyone know how long it takes - and is it a scenic route ??
Thanks in anticipation of your help.

Hi Phil - exactly the same thing happened to us in July, and we went down to collect some friends to bring them back to Fethiye for a few days. There is a dolmus - I am afraid i don't know the price or times but the route is quite fast - travelling down a very good road (the main dalaman / dalyan road). The longest part of the journey is when you come off this road and turn on the left to descend down to marmaris - but a pretty road through lots of orange groves etc. We drove and it took us 2 hours. (A day in Marmaris and you will want to come back to Fethiye though !!!! ;))

You can get a mini coach straight through from Marmaris to Fethiye. Takes about 3 hours, air-conditioned bus. Leaves from Marmaris otogar straight through to Ortaca otogar, stop for a rest for 15 mins then onto to Fethiye. Fares have changed since we last used them, but from Koycegiz to Fethiye is was 7ytl & cost from Koycegiz to Marmaris was 6ytl.two years agp.
The only problem at the moment are road works from Marmaris, cos they are widening the road so may take a bit longer.

:)They could hire a car, they are cheaper to hire in Marmaris, that way they wont have any bags to lug around. ;)

We were out in Calis in July and my daughter was staying in Icemelar we got the Bus from Fethiye bus station to Marmaris. It took about 3hrs including stops in an air conditioned bus. The journey was fine and you get to see a bit more of Turkey too. It cost us 12ylt each single but worth every penny.

We went last year, make sure you take Blethers advice and get the 'fast' coach from Marmaris, we took one that stopped at about 10 different points en-route (inc Koycegiz) and at most stops the driver got and wandered off for a cup of tea, the journey took ages !
You are doing the right thing inviting them to come to Fethiye, we thought Marmaris was awful.

I went to Marmaris last year, it cost 12 lira each way.
Like ewarts says the buses are fine, with air conditioning and its quite a nice trip.

Thanks to everyone who helped with this today - I am very grateful.
(Nice to see the Forum working at its very best.)
I'll let you know how we get on.

Am I right or wrong thinking there used to be a ferry between Fethiye and Marmaris?
