Title: I don't know the off side rule

At Liverpool v Arsenal today, I wonder if you can help me understand the off side rule? I am not saying that Arsenal did not look the better side and have most of the possesion or even deserve a point  but when they scored Adebayor was off side taking Jamie Carragher out of position to mark him and then Bendtner also drifts offside again causing Carragher and Finnan to check position to cut out the ball to him which leaves Fabregas free to score.
