Seeing this thread made me think of something I read this morning. I am contemplating bringing our flat screen tv with us and taking the hit on the tax. This morning I was on the Britannia Movers web site and it says on there that there is no tax to pay on used electrical items over one year old. Obviously you would need proof of purchase, but is this the case, from what I have read on the forum it seems there is tax to pay on any electrical item.

Yes we brought in a small flat screen TV into Turkey(undeclared) in our Suitcase. Our main one came in through the shippers was 18 months old and we had to pay the banderol tax on it (not sure how much as it was included in the overall customs tax, banderol tax and back hander we had to pay to get it all out of customs.
We were not told by our shippers that you could not import brand new furniture so got stung for that as well.
My advice if shipping furniture through Izmir/cCesme is to allow £800 to get it all cleared and if its less you are one of the lucky ones.
Cheers

When you say a small flat screen, how small?  Has made me think that I may go down that route but don't they weigh a fair bit?

Tilly Floss, it was a 20" Flat screen. Came out with my sister and we paid extra to get 20kgs each and with a TV, 30 kitchen door handles and minimal clothing it was within weight...the door handles weighed more than the TV !
