A more serious post from me for a change, prompted by a comment made by the Chairman of the Board sometime ago.
I neither am, nor have ever been, a member of any other Forum.
It was Mrs H's sister that told me of the CBF Forum which I first visited out of curiosity. The rest of course is history (albeit recent).
I am sure that regular visitors to the Forum are aware of the enjoyment I derive from reading and contributing to the Forum.
But, increasingly, I am aware that the vast majority of my contributions are to sections other than those directly related to Calis and/or Turkey in general.
This led me to wonder how long standing members and who are resident in Turkey view this. After all, I assume that the original premise of the Forum was to help build a community of "ex pats" (if I may use that unfriendly term) and to help them resolve genuine problems which they may have had. I am sure that long standing members will testify to the success of the Forum with this in its early days and indeed at present time.
But now, with more than 4,000 members, the Forum has obviously broadened its appeal to people, like myself, who obviously love the place, but who are only ever there two or three weeks in a year.
So, how do the long standing members view us "two week wonders (tww's)".
(I do, of course, exclude from the term "two week wonders", members who are not resident, but who have been going to Calis for much, much longer than myself).
Do you think that the Forum is "not what it use to be" and/or "has gone down hill" since the early days and with the influx of the tww's.
Do you feel that the "tww's" (whose majority of contributions may have nothing to do with Calis) have somehow hijacked your Forum.
(Apologies to anyone offended by the term two week wonders - I couldn't think of another term)

Interesting post John (for you ;) )
Actually you have it wrong - the CBF was set up by a "tww" for "tww's" and in the early days a member who lived in Turkey was generally Turkish (Calis 'faces' etc). There were of course the occasional members come along who were ex-pat, but quite rarely.
So you haven't hijacked our ex-pat forum, the forum was around long before it was common for British folk to move to the area.

whatever anyone thinks i love the forum for the info the wit/*hit the debates ,tinx's ,crabbit ,H ,cef, laffa and other members who all bring their personalities to this forum to make it what it is i find it wonderfully relaxing after a hard day in the office

An interesting post and a fair question. I see it that the forum has broadened its interest in the last few years but remains at its heart for people who share a common interest, Calis (and the surrounding areas) and Turkey in general.
For me if it helps to convert just a few people or saves those who ask for help then it is well worth putting up with some bad jokes, strange topics and very bad tartan backgrounds.
Long live the CBF
Steve

:o Two week wonder :o what are you inferring Mr H :P ;)
Not sure which part of the whit/*hit of Puma's post I fall into :o both, at times, I suspect lol :D ;)
CBF has been/is a 'community' sharing a multitude of information (Too much.... at times, lol ;)) & guidance. It's a place to socialise and share, banter & info :)
A tapestry of personalities & characters from different backgrounds, with one common denominator, a passion for Calis, Fethiye & Turkey :)
Thank you all for sharing & putting up with me :) 8) ;)

Scunner the Forum's a wonderful site
With people talking all day and all night.
There's ideas and laughing and knowledge to share
and members to chat to when you are in there.
There's fun to be had and lessons to learn,
Quick wit and items that may cause concern.
The winter is cold here and yet we all strive
To keep dreams of beaches and sunshine alive.
A two week wonder is what we may seem
But we need all of your chatting to keep up the dream.
We come home from work tired and sit by the fire - but
To live over there is what we aspire.
Many thanks for a great Forum.

I get just as much information and entertainment from the forum now, as a 'resident' in Turkey as I did when I was a 'frequent visitor'.
It is fun and information together.
Pete [^]:D
PS Nice one, Mobaxi :D

Does a person who is a two week wonder who then comes out here to live change? I think not! There is NO division.....people are judged for themselves but that is a whole new Question ;):D

:) Mobaxi, great posting :) 8)

Originally I found CBF because I needed information about buying in Turkey - the advice and info was great. Any questions I have had since then have usually been answered but what is now more important to me is a new circle of friends (if I dare call you all that !). Whilst I have met very few of you, the daily banter, humour and wit has brightened me up on many a dull day. Thanks to everyone that contributes for what ever the reason. I was a two week wonder, but now I've got it up to at least 5 weeks ;) and one day will be 52 ! Thanks Scunner for running an excellent forum - what ever the initial reasons for its set up ! [:X][:X][^][:X][:X]

An ode to CBF, I am touched

Hi,
we know the CBF was scunners brain child, and we all owe him for that, and I'm sure we don't envy him his job of running it, but a forum is only as good as it's posters, and I don't think they come much better than those we have here, it is a wonderful place to come, long may it, and scunner reign!! :)

Great forum, great humour loads of information lovely people and a great poem.
Keep up the good work Keith I absolutely love this forum

Just to make it clear, I didn't intend the term "two week wonder" to be in anyway derogatory. It was the only tem I could come up with. No offence was intended.
I agree with everyone of the glowing references so far. I'm sure there will be more. :)

Mr H, I'm sure that no offence would be taken any more than we 'residents' taking offence at the expression 'expat'.
The term 'expat' conjures up memories of that wonderful? BBC soap set in Spain with a lot of 'has been' actors and a couple of token Spaniards!

I see this forum much like a virtual magazine, where its readers can dip into and out of articles/postings as they wish. Some read an article because the title is interesting and some because the author merits a read whether for their knowledge, humour, bias or what ever. My impression is that there is a triage of ex pats, owners of apartments still residing in the UK and what John calls TWW, that use CBF. Long may that continue.

I came over for 3 weeks this year. I feel that I don't belong anywhere.

I only joined this forum in May,and I love it. I love the wit and the humour, and also the variety of topics. I joined initially to seek information on moving to Turkey and found it very helpful, now I log on every night just to see what's being discussed, I even take a sneaky peek at work, Can't help it. It is addictive. Somehow it just helps me feel connected to Calis. Does that sound daft. No don't anybody answer that. Any way keep up the good work Scunner. It's certainly the best forum I have ever been on.

I was talkin to Jukebox & Cavfan one night,
When they asked, "have you been on the Calis website"
I said website my a-se, I havent a clue,
Just fill me in on what I should do,
I got all rigged up and went on line,
Found the forum and all was fine,
I was only using it till my flight was booked,
And now i'm well and truely hooked.
I,m made up with the new mates i've made and found,
So well done Scun, your forum is sound. ;)
-
Excellent Laffa :) Enjoyed it - when's the Poetry Book coming out.

I predict the resurgence of an older CBF topic, for newer members, and here it is

Ah, it's only 7 months old now I look lol
But there's plenty new members since then

You know to answer the original question .......well, let's face it most of the ex-pats were one time 2 week wonders wern't they ? And also, these developments that they all live on are a little bit like that El Dorado !! Seriously though, we are mostly all here for the same reasons, the love of the country or lifestyle etc. OK< there are a few dodgy law dodgers and bankruptees, but I guess the Costa deel Sol is full ! LOL
-
We do NOT all live on a development!:(
