Are mosquitoes as problematic in Ovacik as they are in Calis?
-
I hope so, because they aren't problematic in Calis
-
we don't have a problem with them in Ovacik so the answers is no.
-
Yes we do have problems with mosquitoes in Ovacik even at this time of year, the Mozzie man has been round spraying this week and at night as soon as you put your lights on the little bu**ers appear, we spend many an evening hitting them with cushions and we are very careful through the day and keep our screens on when we open outside doors, so you are not on your own - Korky u are telling porkies!!!
-
Hi smithhot23 :) we are a friendly bunch really.... you just haven't introduced yourself or said 'hello' to us yet....
-
The Mosquitoes are driving me mad. They wake me at all hours buzzing around my ears. My face has so many bites i've lost count.
Woke up this morning and one had got me on the eyelid (he wont' be able to do it again though he's in mossie heaven now). Is a good job the sun is out and I can wear sunglasses. It's so swollen.
I keep all doors and windows closed but they still find a way in.
[:(!]
Hope they all go soon. My face can't take anymore!!!!!!

That's an odd change of events - it always used to be Ovacik being fairly mozzie free and Calis suffering. The number of mozzies in Calis has depleted beyond belief in recent years - but why would Ovacik suffer the opposite?
Just interested :)

These mossie experiences in Ovacik are very strange because we have a place at the top of Fethiye on the Ovacik road and have no mossies at all. We wouldnt expect Ovacik to have either because its higher up and we have only ever been bitten by the sea or at Calis.
Strange this
-
I agree we have a place in Ovacik and have never had any problems with mossies
-
Mozzies can fly up the mountain!
We were plagued by them for the first time last month when we were in Ovacik.
They havent realy bothered us before but this time we were woken up by them buzzing round our heads.
In the end we left our Electric mozzie machines on from about 7pm till we got up & that sorted them.

thanks for all the resposnes - I feel a bit of a cheat as I am aware that I ve not officially intorduced myself this time - I have been a regular attender of the forum for some years - but I have moved house etc etc and totally lost all passwords email etc etc so I have re registered. Please forgive me - we have an a apartment in Calis bought 5 yeqrs ago - we live in north wales and we have a holiday in calis approx x3 time a year. For the first time we tried november this year and we expected our beloved flies to be less of a problem as it wasnt very hot. However they were three times as bad.

Was up in Ovacik last week for 4 days dog sitting, have never seen the mozzies so bad. Thankfully the out-laws were with us so they got them and we got off scotfree. Had one in the appt (behind Tansas) last night though

Its weird that some have never had mossies like us since 2005 yet others are over run!
We have visited in May and September each year and dont remember a single one but we dont leave our windows open at night. Sitting out late on the balcony we havent either!
We havent any lake or standing fresh water near us so perhaps thats the reason.
2008 may be different.

I got this from my sister in Arizona - does anyone know if it works ???
"I knew this stuff was deadly. Anything that tastes that bad has to be. Mosquito spray..... I can't wait to try this in the summer!
I was at a deck party awhile back, < /B> and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared.
The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle
and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes.
And voila! That worked as well.
It worked at a picnic where we sprayed
the area around the food table, the children's swing area,
and the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don't leave home without it....."

PMSL - never heard that about Listerine before & I worked for many years at the Pharmaceutical plant that made it. Some people do buy it though I often wondered - WHY??? Now Euthymol toothpaste (with some of same ingredients) & similarly horrible taste was a dentists nightmare apparently but wonderful for polishing brass or any metals - very good at removing enamal & dentine from teeth also.
Would that be the original or the new taste ones? I might even have some of the old stuff knocking around. It would be many years old so probably more potent now. Hated the stuff.

Listerene, Hmmm, now I know why my bestest buddy Paul NEVER,EVER gets bitten when he visits us from Bishy!! He ALWAYS brings Listerene with him!! We can be sitting together in a bar, I end up getting the mossie bites, and he doesnt,
Gordy.

they also say eating marmite keeps them away
vitamim b6 and b12 and yeast tablets
its what you give off (your smells etc)
-
I am going to come Ovacik for disinfect with ULV my aunt's villa. If you want I will help you this subject.I have certificate about pest control.
-
:)Amazing. listerine, who'd have thought it, mind you anything is worth a try as opposed to getting bit, I prefer the expedition 50 as it was the first thing that actually worked for me,aand would have happily paid much more for it.:P
-
I've said this on other threads but the vitamin B tablets have been my saviour. I take them for two weeks before I go and haven't been bitten for about two or years years now and I am someone who used to have big lumps bitten out of them. I've still got scars on my feet from when they got me before. I also have a spoonful of vegemite everyday just to p1ss them off further.
I now feel that I have beaten the little b..tards at their own game. Bring it on ! :D
-
get yourself a mozzie electric zapper....there great....no more mozzies....:D
-
Brian, where do you get them from, and how much? it's not one of those that burn a pellet or anything like that is it? Alan
-
Alan
Got mine from a garden centre in the UK, you can also get them on line but can't remember the web address, just use google and search for battery mozzie zapper, If not I have a spare one you can borrow when you come out.

Hi Alan, to answer your question, the zapper i have is like the ones you see in some bars, the ultra vilot florecent tube type, 70 lira from Ozan Elektrik shop near to roundabout Ovacik/Hisaronu, Not cheap at this time of year, you will get them for half the price in winter....if you can manage till then!!! Brian.
-
Thank you for the replies, mozzies don't seem to like me, i just get fed up of the buzzing when i'm trying to get to sleep, but that one of yours sounds good Brian, do you screw it to a wall, or stand it up somewhere, and what do you mean if i can manage til winter, i was in Calis all last summer, i even slept on the balcony all July and August, it was lovely. Alan

Hi Alan, no problem giving you the answer to your question, the zapper can be fixed to the wall or free standing, i prefer it to be free standing then i can move it around from room to room or balcony to balcony, they DO work, with regard to my comment if you can manage till winter when they are half the price....keep sleeping on yer balcony but plug the zapper in first, lol, happy zapping :)

Arrived back this week after a 10 break and all 4 of us were 'bite free'. Last year we were bitten to hell, the only difference that we could see is that this year the mossie man did his rounds (twice in 10 days). Last year we did not see him at all.
