Title: Where are you from in UK?
Post by: Scunner on February 03, 2008, 15:47:36 PM
Wrong section I guess but it would be interesting to see what sort of spread CBF has when it comes to member loctions in the UK (or for those here, where they were in the UK before they came).

I am sure some will be borderline, but do your best  ;)

Thanks

Did we miss off the Socialist Republic of West Yorkshire as they are a very different race to Northerners or North East - in fact I have never come across any other race like them! :D

That's interesting Ian. I've often thought that Geordies and Scousers think of themselves as just that before being English (if you know what I mean)

Strangely I have always found the people in N East really welcoming!

Gill and I regularly go to Stockton-on-Tees (Swallow Hotel on the main street) as we like the people and the area so much! The coast road further up from Newcastle to Alnwick is stunning!

Just to balance things we also love our annual 3-day break to Oban which we do this time of the year as we think that area has a certain beauty in the winter.

Ian  :)

Ps still believe "you can always tell a Yorkshireman - but you can't tell him owt!"

Not that I agree with Ian around the Socialist republic thing, as we normally attribute that to South Yorkshire- however I bu**ared up my vote as I used North East- does that count. Usually Yorkshire appears on surveys on its own with it being the biggest and of course best county[:X]

It is because we are quietly contented at being from the south, and unlike Yorkshire people, we don't feel the need to continuously drone on about how great it is where we come from.

You normally find that the people who are in the pub discussing what a great time they are having, aren't.

Well I am afraid I have to come in here on behalf of our comrades in Yorshire, Merseyside etc.

It is tradition to leave newly born babies on the back door step (for Southerners that's at the rear of the residence close to the ginnel) all night on day they are born to ensure they are "tough" enough to survive thereafter.
(something that started in Barnsley in 500 BC and was then adopted by the rest of the North of England in 400BC before the Spartans tried it 100 years later!)

Most of our problems in life for the past 2 or 3 centuries have been caused by "us" having to work too hard to keep the softy southerners comfortable so they can shop all week at Harrods and Waitrose!

Traditionally we make it Up North and you lot spend it for us!

So go on apologise a little bit more - in fact we want compensation!
Ian  ;)

In which case I would be compensating myself as I am a born and bred Lancastrian 8),still living in Lancashire.
I am only just finding my feet here at the CBF,from what I have seen so far,I like it and didn't want to offend anyone by going over the top.Now I am begining to "sus" your personalities out,it will be easier to know how far to go "leg-pulling".
This obviously doesn't apply to anyone from Yorkshire,as they are too thick skinned to understand anything in the above two paragraphs.:D

Glenn - I don't disagree - my comments were aimed at Scunner and his fellow Southerners - he will have to scratch his head for a long time to tell us what the Manufacturing Industry in Leighton Buzzard is famous for - possibly designer shoes (not anything useful like cloggs) up the road in Northampton.

As regards our "cousins" in Yorkshire - I think it is the inter-breeding that makes them the way they are - I mean how else to you explain Geoff Boycott - harmless enough - just opinionated!

Ramsbottom is the home of Black Pudding and the World Championships are held there annually.

I actually happen to be an expert on Black Puddings and have written a thesis on the subject.
You probably won't have seen it in Yorkshire as it had no pictures and lots of words!

However to continue it is a little known fact that the original recipe was found on one of the many prisoners we took at The Battle of Bosworth Filed when we whooped you in the war of the roses!
