Kipa (Tesco) are going to build a new store in Fethiye. Sorry don't know when, but i'm trying to find out....(info is from an official source in Fethiye - not just a rumour)
It's going to be just up from the new Otogar (where the fruit and veg wholesale area is)
I haven't been to one yet (closest is the relatively new one at Marmaris) but it's supposed to be cheaper than migros etc.
-
You sure it's not going to be Cheap As Chips?
-
On Calis market they say as cheap as asda, but in kipa they would have to say as cheap as azda, wouldn't they. Alan
-
I'd always heard that that area was going to be a sports/leisure centre - Oh well guess we will have to wait and see.
-
It was on the cards to build a shopping mall/superstore there about 18 months ago but first they had to build an alternative out of town site for the fruit and veg wholesalers to move to.....to the best of my knowledge that has not been started. So don't hold your breath. :)

They finished the out of town wholesalers last year ;), one of my friends brothers was the overseer for the building.
-
Where is it located? :)
-
It's out of town Brian.
-
Obviously not Talk of the Town then 8)......Do you have the coordinates
Mr S :)

So let me get this right - the "out of town mall" is in town and the town fruit and veg market is out of town - makes sense :D
That means within 800 mtrs of my door (and tribalelders door) we will have a fairly large: ALDA / GENPA / KIPA / CARREFOUR / BIM and the usual owner operated food stores.
It really does make you think how will the small guy survive and to go like the UK with TESCO taking £1 out of every £4 spent on food would be a travesty!
-
No, the town fruit and veg market will still be in town next to the Fish Market.
The Wholesale Fruit & Veg Market will be out of town.
(And I think you mean AZDA ?)
-
KKOB - that explains it!
By the way it is ALDA - Otogar on your left - go to lights - turn right towards Mosque with twin spires - passed GEMPA - 800 YDS on the right ALDA :)
-
Oh and don't forget 'Tansas'!!!!!
I thought is was 'Azda' i must admit, not been in there yet though...so much choice.
June
-
I thought you meant AZDA which is on opposite side of road from Tansas and also in Hisaronu.
-
I get the impression that ALDA is not as upmarket as AZDA - no change there then !!! :D

On the top of that Sue should get 10% staff discount :D

I have heard the rumours and seen the posts even back in 2003 so was a bit 'not again' when I hear about a Kipa store in Fethiye but now I see they have actually started the work building it behind the BP petrol station on the main road into Fethiye, and by the amount of workers on site and site offices it looks like it is going to be a big store. Also might give Migros a kick up the arse to stop playing with thier summer price increases!!
-
I was in the Beledeye office last week looking at the plans, the old wholesale fruit and veg market is not where kippa is going, that is being re-developed as a shoppin mall with leisure facilities looks very impressive. ( for the anti- fast food brigade it includes a kentucky as well.) I was told by one of the officials the Kippa will be at the side of the Toyota garage on the Dalaman road.

-
Maybe they will have Tesco Mobile phone shop in there and I can get a transfer over there!! Now that WOULD be nice. :)
-
i think your info about the location is right mark.
-
it is definitely to the side and behind the bp petrol station.
A mere two minutes walk from my house, handy eh!

MMMMM Kentucky....brilliant. :):D ;)
-
Err Mark/ Stuart I said it was being built right now behind the BP petrol station, which is in Fethiye central not next to the Toyota garage where there is currently no works going on, think your official has got confused. :)

I hope not because he was the planning officer!!! the shopping Mall is at the veg wholesale market with various outlets. The Kippa is on the Dalaman road next to the Toyota garage. if you go to the beledeye office, ask if you can go in the Mayors meeting room the plans are all on the wall.
That said this is Turkey and nothing goes to plan. I did ask when the Kippa will be built and he said Turkish time

If their other overseas stores are anything to go by then there will be no staff discount for those working in other countries and no clubcard. Tesco have massive stores in South East Asia but collecting points on your clubcard is a no no I'm afraid. Maybe they will change it in the future - 10% + points would be nice :)
-
Mark that confirms it then planning officers do not have a clue or I am off my trolley one or the other, visited site today when passing (behind BP station almost opposite the Renault dealer)and it is having the hoarding erected around the site and surprise surprise it is in KIPA colours also workmen their said it was for Kipa market, certainly a very big site and loads of activity, unless Fethiye is having 2 Kipas (wouldn't surprise me after all these years wait for one and 2 come along), then I would love to know what is actually planned next to the Toyota garage as well?
-
I wonder if Tesco still do the Florence and Fred range they did when we were in still the UK 2004. I always threw loads of their clothes in my trolley each Tesco visit and clothes are still in good nick now.
-
Does anyone know what is being planned in the area?? Plans on the wall in the Mayors office which from recent postings is not what is actually happening????
The plot thickens!!!!!!!!!!
-
Kipa have their own loyalty card.
If Fethiye Kipa is anything like the other branches in the country you will not see many, if any, Tesco products.
-
kipa is a great supermarket. used them often in the bigger cities. hopefully will bring prices down in other supermarkets. the price of meat for example is getting very high 30 tl a kilo in some cases.
and the price of efes!!!!!lol///
-
Dont get to excited if its the same kipa as marmaris then its ok for knives forks tvs and some house fitings etc but the same old food and frezer dept ok if you like olives or or olive oil dont see much diferance in price either ....sam
-
Agree with Sam the food range in Marmaris is still very Turkish but slightly more variety. The household and small electrical items did have a selection of tesco own brand products at very reasonable prices.
I know Tesco were building a large distribution centre in Izmir so more "familiar" goods may appear.
Also the instore cafe was very reasonable!
-
mark i misread your post...you were right about not at old wholesale veg market and on the dlm road. but not toyota garage//i think the bp boys have it right!!
-
Yes I also heard that it was going in behind BP and that it would be ready in June-doesnt look like it will be ready in June does it!!!! Shame to hear that it proberbly wont carry anything different from Migros, Tantas etc-we really dont need another shop selling knifes do we!
-
I personally was impressed with the Marmaris Kipa and was surprised at the amount of goods that actually had Tesco labels on them. I was equally impressed with the Tansas store as you go down to Marmaris harbour... a much better store than the one we have here.
-
the kipas in izmir and antalya are brilliant much cheaper and fantastic selection of stuff even run courtesy buses to surrounding areas.
apart from that the competition has to be good to keep down other surrounding supermarket prices/
-
The Kipa in Marmaris has a huge car park too...something of a rarity over here. Hope we get a decent car park for ours too.

...and a hotdog stall outside selling hotdogs for 1TL!
Agree the selection is not like a British Tesco, but it's better than the crap we have at the moment.

Just read your last post on this topic.
Carefully.

I took a walk up to see it the other day. Workers in hivis vests and hard-hats, a steel barrier around the site (for a second I forgot I was in Turkey lol)
It doesn't look very big but then again, its only footings at the mo - so its hard to tell.
It is opposite the Renault garage, set-back from the road (directly behind the BP garage)
-
Passed it today the steel super structure has been erected and since it appears to be a pre-fabricated building it shouldn't take long to complete.
-
Kipa is opening June 1st :D
-
Yep, Tuesday
-
10am
-
If past experience is anything to go by, this will be a shop and an area to avoid until after the following week-end.
I suspect that it will be absolute chaos with traffic and hopeful bargain hunters.
-
Came past it on the way back from the carnival this evening.and guess what.............the whole main road is closed at that point for road works:D:(
-
The road has been closed on and off for over a week and guess who's road is the divert. Much dust on my terrace and in my lungs. Still it will be worth it when it is all done and dusted!
-
Well, it's now open but it's not like a "proper" Tesco.
But they did have some great opening offers - like electric scooters for 900TL!
It was packed on opening day so difficult to find interesting products.
I want to go back when things calm down so I can browse... 8)
