Title: Fishing Day Trips
Post by: penny on May 01, 2008, 21:35:04 PM
Can anyone recomend a fishing boat to hire for the day for 4 adults and 4 children.last year we hired a boat for the day from the harbour and told the captain that the two men wanted to do some serious fishing. whilst it was good value for money the captain took us to the regular stops used by the tour boats. at one point there were about 50 tourists jumping on our fishing lines whilst they played a lovely song about a bear pleasuring himself at full blast. we are just loking for a quiet day out with good fishing and a bit of snorkelling without the w***in 8)g bear playing in the background. 8)

I'll jump in and predict many recommendations for Jerry's Boats. Somewhat strangely, I have never been on one of his trips but everyone speaks highly of them. I actually only met him properly a few weeks ago, and what a charming gentleman he is.

is jerrys boat moored in the harbour and do you think he would be easy to find. we plan on having a couple of days out fishing as the kids love it as well. last year my hubby ended up going out on a little boat with a couple of turkish friends and he caught 14 tuna and lambucha which were beautiful on the bbq.unfortunately our friends boat is not safe enough or big enough for the kids. 8)

Jerry,s fishing trips are not that sort of fishing, they only catch small fish on them, to catch tuna i think you would have to find one that goes a bit further afield, Jerry is just like the 12 island boat trips, swimming, fishing and sunbathing, oh and bbq. Alan

I too am looking to book Jerrys boat, the website and contact details are www.jerryboat.com    Has anybody been out with Jerry this year yet, or late last year? He had had many good reviews last year but one that said he was getting really busy and slacking a bit...any info to the contrary? Many thanks.

He's still running, we spoke with him on Friday, as we were looking for a boat for yesterday - from around Midday - price quoted with lunch £120 (4 adults 2 children). So we went to Fethiye and went on Tom's boat for 150 Lira, some difference  :)

:DNice one Sue, Jerry's name is actually Ufuk, so you can understand why, when he's giving quotes like that,  :owhat do you mean ,"the milks off", seriously though I cant understand him  giving silly quotes, could be a big mistake, and we've been using him for years. ;)

if you can get 10 people to go on the boat with you
it would be about £10 each for the day.

ask for discount.children half price etc.

c1 i have beachcast many times at calis using live shrimp as bait but all i get is bits all the locals use handlines with the same results,if you go round the back of fethiye harbour past the boatyards the sea is usually that calm i floatfish here with light coarse tackle loads of different fish here but nothing big enough to eat,you can go fishing catch nothing but pop in the fish market on the way home and buy some for the table tell your missus you caught them and it will all seem worthwhile, there are a couple of good tackle shops in fethiye and you can buy a full set up for babout 30 pound anyway good luck peter

Theres a new 200hp power boat out of Olu Deniz which goes to Cennet Plaj which is a sandy beach on the way to Patara. It can take up to 8 people at 180 quid for about 5 hrs including a sandwich snack and tea/coffee water.  I thought it sounds alot and then worked it out to be 22.5 quid a head to do something really different away from the crowds.  If you want it as a fishing trip, which we did, they trawl for bigger fish like tuna and then do line fishing to catch bass bream etc. My hubbie came back with 6 red snapper all bigger than your hand !

120 Quid!  oh my god, that is more than some of our flight tickets were!

Is this Tom person a charter boat person?  I am just looking for someone to take us proper fishing for a bit.  For 3 years now, I get up at 7, walk to the humpback bridge with my son and just sit there for a couple hours.  The only fish he has ever caught is when this Turkish man obviously took pity on him after days, ran over, pulled a fish out of his pocket, put it on ds's line and threw it back in the water!  The last time we were there, they told us there werent any actual trips for real fishing as the licenses were too expensive. and we asked in every tour place we could find.  So if anyone does find any........

Take him along to the front between Calis and Fathyie, there are always men fishing from there

Thanks, Anne, but our Turkish is still (I'm ashamed to say) nonexistent and I wouldn't have the nerve to ask.  We do go and sit and watch them fish from the beach though.  :-)  We did try fishing there, but the hooks get caught on the rocks under the water.  If anything it taught us never to go in the water barefoot!!!!!!
