I've heard that there's an event being held in Oludeniz in support of the Fethiye Friends of Animals on 23rd May.
Anyone got any further info about it?

Try the website www.straydogsturkey.org it gives contact details where I am sure you would get you the info you want. :)

Have already emailed them for info.
They're not going to get much support if they don't get some info out about it pretty soon.

KKOB do you know what really happens to the animals taken to Uzumlu? We had a young german shepherd cross street dog arrive in our road who was a darling, he had a green tag in his ear and I started to feed him and give him some love but then the neighbours all went off on one as he was stealing their shoes from outside their front doors. I caught one neighbour beating the hell out of him and have now fallen out with them after 8 years. Anyway, I digress, I called Uzumlu and explained and they came to pick him up but I am worried as to what they will do.

Why don't you go to the animal centre and take a look ?

Some friends of ours had semi adopted a street dog....and out an out Mutley but on several occasions have had to reprimand local kids from tormenting and hitting it with bamboo sticks they then complain to their parents that the dog has bitten them....the parents then complain to the dog catcher and it ends up in Uzumlu. Twice now he has escaped and somehow found his way back to Fethiye....they now call him Steve Mcqueen. :)

Hi, Baklavalover, you are the second person that has said it is in Uzumlu. Surely the place isn't in Uzumlu? I have seen it and would love to know what that area is called. Anyone know?? It's nearer to Fethiye than Uzumlu. When I need a dog I will go there, but I am keeping well away in the meantime, I don't trust myself to look and leave without a waif in tow....

I think it comes under the village of Catalarik. Copy and paste 36°40'3.52"N, 29° 9'33.34"E into the "Fly to" field on Google Earth and you can see it quite clearly.
It's on the Uzumlu Road so most people seem to assume that it's at Uzumlu, when it's in fact several miles from there.

Thanks for that Alan. I will try to remember that.
