This may be a daft question as it is different for everyone but could anyone give me an idea how much spending money to bring? We are a family of four (2 kids ages 8 and 11 and then big one of 41 - yes you guessed it that's hubby!) and of course me. We are self catering but always eat out. This will be our first time to Turkey (31st July for 14 days) and after all the lovely welcomes I received yesterday from forum members and all the info I have gleaned already feel like that I know Calis already.
For the last five years we have been away where the euro has been the currency and noticed that each year we needed that bit more. Any advice you could give would be appreciated!
On a separate note and I promise not sycophantically - Scunner is a legend! Love the dry wit!:P
-
Legend or not you've posted this in the wrong section and it is part of my duties to chastise you ;) I will move it for you. As for spending money I'll leave that for someone else, I haven't been on holiday to Calis for 5 years now.
-
Oops! Sorry! Anyways nothing like a bit of morning chastisement!
-
Can't help I'm afraid Barbara as it's only Mrs H and myself.
I have noticed that price are creeping up and I reckon I may have to take £30 quid this year. ;)
-
Thanks Highlander! I wish it could only be £30. By the way love the name. One of my favourite films and I fell in love with the name Conor and vowed that if I have had a son I would call him that and I did!
-
take as much as you can - bring some back if you want/must or set your daily budget according to the prices on arrival.
-
Do you think that answers the question GB? :D
-
Babcc you haven't said what you're normal budget is but i would think a budget of £150 a day should be more than adequate.Last year when staying at a hotel 2 adults and a two year old all meals out we spent about £800 for two weeks.
-
Double that if you plan on eating at dalaman airport:D
-
Is this the mathematician section?
£150 x 14 = £2100 :D
-
mmmmmm nice one scunner that was last year there is one more of them and they are older children more expensive.
-
Caviar for the big kids then? ;)
I can't imagine spending an average of £150 a day on a holiday anywhere in the World, let alone little ol Calis
-
And there i wos thinking wot a nice man mr scunner waz an now u r getting at me lol

-
Oh Graham, it's not "getting at you", it's "friendly banter" :D
-
I did say more than adequate best have to much and take some home than not have enough
-
I know that scunner that wasn't a serious post
-
Now i can't find my teddy in the corner
-
Are you on skpe scunner
-
Would it not be just as easy to use an atm and draw say £300 out and see how long it lasts, when thats gone draw some more, you can do that til you go home, and never have too much cash around at any one time. Alan
-
That is an option Allan but some banks charge you to use them and charge commission on the transaction.
-
babcc, if you are planning to eat out every night plus trips etc £100 per day should to it. Just a point, if the children have smaller appitites most places will do child portions and you still get quite alot. Have a great time.

I have never been to Calis but do know Marmaris and costs.Last year my sister and hubby stayed at one of our places in Marmaris with their 2 kids.
My sister is very careful with money but not in the tight fisted meaning, just sensible. They were also self-catering but only ate out in the evenings. They took £1500 cash with them in sterling and only changed it into Turkish Lira when they needed it.They all had a great holiday.Did the water parks etc to keep the kids happy and they actually came home with £150. jono :)
-
Thanks guys. Have an idea now - sort of! xx
No doubt you will hear from me again before I go. xxx
-
Can I just make the point that that I found Marmaris last year to be 30 % dearer than the surrounding small villages, in particular the Restaurants

Yep.

Batman is right £100/ day will do it.
-
I think £100 a day sounds a lot. You can manage with much less than that, if you need to. :)
As long as your not eating out in the seafront restaurants every night (lovely as they are!), you can get by on much less than this.
We came with our 3 daughters a little while back - ate breakfast in the apartment; a light lunch; and a decent meal in the evenings (but in the smaller, away-from-the-seafront restaurants). Few beers every day (plus plenty in the fridge!). :):D 8)
Its the trips that cost the money and soon add up, but if you're on a tightish budget, you only need to do a couple each week. (Most of the boat trips are about a tenner each). The weather will be great, and kids will spend ages playing in the pool, which costs nothing. :-\
As Alan says, bring a few hundred pounds with you, and cash it as you need it. Plenty of cashpoints around. Have a great holiday. :) Julie
Oh yeah, and eat in the Calis Beach Restaurant on the seafront one evening and get free waterpark tickets which the kids will love! (I should be on commission from them - I'm always recommending both the restaurant and the water park, lol). :) 8) :)
-
I would say £75 a day would be ok... depends whether you drink spirits and cocktails and do a lot trips!
-
my family usually brings about 500 maybe upto 700 there are only 3 of us and this lasts us 3 weeks, like julesbob we buy bits n bobs and have breakfast on the cheap in the apartment get a light lunch either in the room or at the hotel bar then eat out at night.
If you intend on doing alot of trips bring a fair bit more they van be quite pricey.
-
£11 a head per day not sure i could get by on that :)
-
£11 a day. Now that is being ridiculous. If thats what you budget per day why bother to go on holiday. :)I spend more than that at home on everyday normal living.
-
But it is not ridiculous though, you can do that in Calis, in fact you can have a good night out on even less.
-
That works out for a family of 4 £616. For that you are telling me you can go on boat trips go to the water park. eat out every evening including drinks.Including all tips etc. travelling expences.Buying gifts to take home. Noway. Not unless you just eat rice lettuce and chips everyday, and drink water.and lock the kids away for the whole 2 weeks :)
-
Thanks for all your input. I think I will plan £100 per day and see how we go.
Just one thing I picked up on was in Davey's response where he mentions tips. What tends to be the norm? :)
-
It covers what we need it for, which is just food - 2 kids meals 1 adult meal and a bottle of water and drinks during the day, we buy food in for the apartment for during the day which saves a fair bit - and a few pressies for home.
We rarely do any trips or anything which is why we can get away with so little
-
baby boo. Exactly! You are talking about just one adult meal and 2 kids meals/drinks during the day.Nothing else as you dont do trips etc.The average family on their first holiday to Calis I would sugest would want to do as much as possible. We are also talking about 2 adults and 2 kids here which your are not.
As for tipping I would say 10% is about the norm for a family.
-
As a couple we manage on about £1000 over 14 days which is abut £70 a day. I would work on £100 a day with 2 kids.
-
Stoop spending £70 a day !!!!!!!!!!. NEVER. :D
Stoop spending £70 a week, maybe. 8)
-
Including flights though
-
No I did not mean for a family of four Davey and certainly would not dream of locking my children away and not including them, I was talking about a sad singleton having a good time for that price!
E.g Boiled eggs and fresh bread for brekky about 40p.
Lunch more fresh bread salad and sliced meat about 60p.
Evening meal at Aydin Pide massive portion of fresh salad, lovely hot mushroom pide and hot buttery bread (again massive)around £1.30 all washed down with four large Efes at just over £3, still had enough left out of £11 for more large Efes at another bar.
Atmosphere and friendliness off all the waiters and owners of the places I visited priceless.
It is a different thing all together when you have children with you that need entertaining and as other people have said if you choose to go on trips etc.
-
Good on you Karennina for getting by on that in fact i admire you for your planning, would love to be able to do that but with only the two of us and a good lady who likes to be treated like a princess not a hope in a million years.

Karennina that would be so borin to eat every day dont u like kebabs or burger n chips yummy x effes is so disgustin yuk. x
-
Spending money ? It depends how many clothes, jewellery, leather and carpet shops you intend to visit !!!
We are finding that things are more and more expensive. My tip would be to shop at the markets for fruit and veg and that will save you a considerable amount of money. Eating out - some of the best restaurants are in fact the local turkish restaurants - which cost a fraction of the sea-front 'posher' places to eat. What ever your budget you will be able to find an eating place to suit it ! My 14 year old is happy with kebabs from Fethiye for £2.00 a time ! Have fun. ;) :)
-
Of course I do not mean every day, I was just giving an example that there is a possiblty to do this.
Maybe it is a litle different for me as I plan to live in Calis at some stage of my life and would obviously be living on a budget also would not go out every night like you tend to whilst on holiday.
Efes disgusting I only wish I thought it was!
-
davey if you read my firt post again you will see i say thats for 3 people. Anyone can see if theres an extra person more money will be needed and i did not say that it would work for four either it was just an example.
I did also say that trips can be expensive so if you want to do them to bring alot more.

Russ - that sounds like a good plan and about right :)
-
Please make sure this topic is not open to my wife.
As am still getting away with £300 a week ;)
-
flipping 'eck ! that wouldn't cover the average forum member's bar bill ;): :):D
-
I think you can do this for £100/125 per person per week if you mix and match ie alternate your rest days with outings, and only do a couple of big trips in a week, use the bus and not hire a car and snack at home some days for lunch. Restaurant meals with drinks are about £12/15 per person if eating out along the sea front.
-
Thanks for the offer -I'll drop you an email. Getting quite excited. It sounds such a great place
