Hiya
Hope eveyone is well, my dad came back from Calis yesterday and says it was red hot! Looking forward to my 2 weeks out there soon. How are you hayfever sufferers out there? Does the Turkish weather give you the same symptoms or don't you get it out there. I am asking because my son suffers badly with it over here in England, I am hoping that he doesn't get it whilst we are over there.
Enjoy the sun, those of you that are over there!

Hi Sarah,
Both my partner and our youngest son suffer from allergies/hayfever/asthma.Neither have ever had a problem when in the area and my partners says her asthma improves when in Turkey.
This may just be for her but she has never needed her inhaler when on holiday.
Hope this helps.

Does anyone have any good cures for hayfever. Daughters boyfriend suffers and hasn't come across anything that helps.
-
I have been a bad sufferer for years now. I still get it in Turkey but nowhere near as bad as at home. If it does start getting out of control I normally go and sit on Calis front and the sea breeze takes it away
In regards to medication, I am on a combination of Tablets (Clarityn type but on prescription), Becanase Spray and, in the last week, I am trialling a light therapy device that Lloyds chemist sell. Basically you shove it up your nose for a few times a day (couple of mins each time) and its supposed to relieve the symptoms. Not sure if it is doing anything but it is certainly not making it worse. You do look like rudolph for a few minutes a day though.
I have had injections in the past (rubbish) and have took part in some trials (useless) - Pretty much try anything really
-
a spoonful of local honey morning and night, i was told recently. It is to build up your resistance slowly to pollen. Mind you not sure what you do, about grass (so many answers there), dust etc. Natural remedy, cant hurt to give it a try.
-
Yeah, heard the same about Honey but you need to take a few months before the season begins - so next time you are there, stock up for 2009
-
i just dose myself upon allergy tablets (clarytins(sp?) ect) and rub vaseline(sp?) on th einside of my nose, usually works a treat, thats when im at home, when im in calis it generally isnt so bad but i still take the tablets as they stop the mozzie bites reacting so much.
-
My Hayfever is worse in Turkey, I think. But I also think the season is earlier that in the UK. I am over the symptoms now. So maybe you'll be OK. :)
-
All according to which pollen you are allergic to! My poor son is in a terrible state at the moment. I am going to get him one of those things from Lloyds Steve, he has the ioniser and does think that helps at night in his room (albeit noisy!).
-
In the UK I would still be having trouble at this time but as I am turkey I am over it. I am allergic to grass.
I hope your son is out of his season soon. It's a misery. When in the UK I tries Homoeopath. It was very good. It costs for the first visit while they get all your info but after that it isnt so bad and I found it was great for a few things.
-
Hi Lynne, the ioniser is good (I got one as well) but try the Nose thing. I am not convinced it works as they claim but at least it dries up the snot!!!
-
I used to suffer very badly in the UK, I didn't actually meet anyone who was as big a miserable, sneezing sensitive nosed poor sod as me :D It isn't a manly thing to have lol
I had clarytin, beconase, in fact nearly all of them and they helped 0%.
I still get it over here but it is nothing like as bad - just occasional sneezing fits and sensitive nose and roof of the mouth (urgh) - there is an antihistamine available from pharmacies over here that seems to help more than all the ones in the UK, and if I can remember the name of it I'll post.

Hi
Some friends of ours who suffer very badly not only with hayfever but also very badly with hives/red rash with the heat and sun (where none of the UK remedies had worked) were recommended to use a Turkish antihistamine, they tried it and say it is fantastic.
I have just come back from Dalyan and my partner suffers really badly with hayfever so I bought some back with me and he says it is great, he is diabetic and I checked with the chemist and he is fine to use and it is non-drowsy too.
Sorry I am at work at the moment so can't remember the full name but the dosage is 180mg and the name starts with an F something like Fenxydril or something similar, when I asked the chemist he knew straight away what I was talking about and I bought it at 11ytl for a box of 20 (again a good price compared to UK remedies too).
Anyway hope that helps, I will check tonight for the proper name but someone else might recognise it from the above, but definitely seems to work much better than anything tried over here.

My son suffers very badly with Hay Fever, it's much the same for him in Turkey as it is at home. Over the years he's taken various medicines, tablets, sprays etc. What he takes varies from year to year, our doctor told us that a 'resistance' builds up which necessitates changing medication fairly regularly :(!
-
Please check Karen - will stock up when we go over!
-
So sorry Lynne had a busy night last night and just forgot but will do so tonight.
Karen
-
Sorry for delay - tablets are FEXADYNE 180mg and as I said we paid 11ytl for a box of 20
Hope they work for you.

Thanks for that Karen, would you happen to know how many packets we would be able to bring back to uk?
-
Thank you Karen! Would there be a limit Jenny?
-
Not sure Lynne, I know you can only buy 2 packs of paracetamol in Asda!! :)
-
Hope you don't mind me asking on the same thread, has anyone any suggestions for prickly heat. Debbie
-
Hi again everyone
Not sure how many packets you can bring back but I don't think there is a limit but perhaps someone with more know how on the rules and regulations would be better to answer this one. I brought back 4 packs. I also bring back the strong antibiotics on my last visit for the year as usually someone in the family needs for throat, ears, chest etc (bought back 4 packs of those as well with no problems). They are the ones where you only have to take 1 twice a day because of the high dosage - again very useful to have in as long as you don't overuse of course.
Regards prickly heat - the antihistamine that I mentioned is apparently excellent for that. My friend originally bought it for that as she suffers very badly and swears by it.

Prickly heat can be caused by sun lotion blocking the sweat glands - try Piz Buin Allergy lotion :)
-
Agree with you Scunner about creams. Also good is Ultrasun High Protection 20. Used once a day it's a clear lotion and doesn't aggravate.

Hi there
Thanks everyone for your advice about hayfever in Calis, I really appreciate your help, I have just purchased one of the Lloyds ionisers today so will try my son with that at home and at least now when I visit Turkey I know to take his medicine.
Warmest regards
Sarah

I thought my hayfever had gone (it started in April). But it's back again :(
-
waiting for mine to kick in any day now
-
Thanks for the advice, and yes Piz Buin allergy works for me. However when we were over in May I ran out because it was so hot and I had to go and buy some Ambre Solair. My prickly heat came within 24 hours and drove me insane. Just wondered if anyone had some good tips.

I dont suffer in Turkey as much as i do in uk ,when sleeping try a paper dust mask like builders wear it works for me and ear plugs for my wifes snooring this is worse in Turkey
-
I have never suffered from Hayfever before until last year in Turkey. This year it has started already with a vengance. I am taking cetryn antihistamine, which has some effect but is not brilliant. Can anyone recommend a stronger antihistamine for pollen allergies and does anyone know if you can have an injection as opposed to tablets>

We always stock up from the chemists in Fethiye opposite Carrefour, particularly the large anti-biotic
1000g tablets, or horse pills as we call them. They are very effective for sore thoats etc., however, would only take 1 per day.
We put them in the suitcase before we leave, and have not had a problem taking them back. Also the sleeping tablets are good too.
We find this chemist very good for advise as he speaks perfect English and will always confirm what he is giving you by showing you the product and side effects etc., on his computer.

Try acupunture, I suffered badly for years until this my doctor
told me to try this. After three sessions in the first year and the same the next year, I am now cured, this was 20 years ago.
When I was suffering I had to stay a dark room for three days,no one would or could come near me Iwas that bad tempered.

Whilst we are on the subjects of allergies - does anyone else suffer with eye irritation when in Turkey? I don't have the sneezes/runny nose but one or both eyes feel like they have a piece of grit in and then become very watery and itchy - any ideas?? I've tried the usual anti-histamines etc

I do get bad allergies, probably worse since moving to Turkey, I buy Claratine antihistamine tabs, they work well most of the time . Don't know about injections...needles scare me :-\
