The Blonde babes have all fallen grunting and squeeking by the wayside , leaving the amazonians that are Venus and Serena Williams to take up opposite sides of the net tomorrow. Whilst it seemed like Elena Dementiava had spat her dummy out after her semi final defeat by Venus, do you think maybe she had a point?
Is it possible that the Williams family have a confab and decide which sister is going to win?
Not sure myself but i cant ever recall a classic being played by the girls in Grand Slam Finals ?
I may be wrong but i have a slight feeling that Serena will win this one as Venus won the last one and has won more Wimbledon titles overall. I'm not sure if that will be completley down to her being better on the day or family intervention.
-
both are great players and i'm sure there will be no deciding factor made by the williams family they will both be out to win good luck both it is hard to decide who you would want to win
-
Venus Williams always reminds me of one of those aliens in the film, erm, Aliens.
-
Difficult one JB but I don 't think their competitive nature will allow them not to slug it out.
And they don't really need to decide to share the £ 1,125,000 prize money.
PS The prize money is the same as for the Gentleman's Championship. Agree or disagree or should that be a new thread.
PPS Annabell Croft was on Breakfast TV this morning. But that's definitely another topic
-
Well done to Venus but it wasnt exactly a classic was it?
Serena seemed quite subdued, wonder if she'd had the hard word?
PS, Well done to 14 year old Laura Robson who won the Junior Girls title. One to watch for the future! Nice to see some talent emerging from GT Britain ( notice H I didnt say England! ;))

Unlike the cynics among you I think the sisters are true athletes and would not demean themselves by not playing to their maximum capacity,
they are a credit to their sport and two genuine lovely ladies. 8)

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm there Mike ? If not then I have to disagree with you. They have pulled out at the last minute of too many tournaments for me to be convinced . I read today about a semi final they played in ther own back yard in Miami (where they live now) and the crowd finished up booing them off as the match was a farce. They didnt get booed for nothing.
-
One of them was interviewed a couple of days ago and they won't speak to each other for a few days leading up to the final.
-
"I read today about a semi final they played in ther own back yard in Miami"
No Sarcasm Jukebox.
Written by who, I heard john Mcenroe discussing that match and he made no mention of it.
and what does pulling out of a tournament have to do with fixing a match.
unconvincing indeed, maybe I'm gullible but I stand by my original statement. 8)

Pulling out of a match when you are supposed to be playing your sister , bit suspect.
The article was written by a journalist who was reporting what had happened eg getting booed for allegedly not trying very hard. Not sure what John Mcenroe has to do with what happended?
Another occasion was when Venus and Serena were to play in a semi-final at Indian Wells in California in 2001 but Venus withdrew moments before because of a knee injury and thus avoided playing her sis
I think you may be a bit guillible Mike.
-
Serena didn`t look too happy after she lost, if it was a fixed match then she should take up acting, she was very convincing.

Mcenroe was talking about the quality of play in the Florida match, thats what he had to do with it, and I think I will take his word for it rather than
an unnamed journalist, what publication was it in.
at the end of the day I guess we believe what we want to believe. 8)

So if the quality was so good, I wonder why the crowd felt the need to boo them both? Anyway,we'll have to agree to disagree but there have been too many 'incidents' for me to change my views

I would still like to know the source of said article.

Not sure why, but it's included in an article by a journalist called Ivan Speck in todays Daily Mail on page 125.It says about the match 'Serena won 6-2 6-2 . So pedestrian and lacklustre was this semi final - and the qualityof Venus's play was so poor - that even their home crowd booed them'. Hardly the mark of a high quality match isi t?
-
"and the crowd finished up booing them off as the match was a farce."
Not quite what the reporter wrote, is it.
Its your interpretation of what the reporter wrote to support your preconceived notions about the Williams sisters,
one which I do not agree with. Agree to disagree we must.

I quoted word for word what was in the article.
I dont have preconceived notions Mike or make my own interpretation of anything, I form an opinon based on what information I am provided with. The facts are, that the sisters were booed of the court. Not my interpretation, fact.
-
"and the crowd finished up booing them off as the match was a farce."
"getting booed for allegedly not trying very hard."
If the quotes above are quoted verbatim from the article as you stated then the standard of journalism in the Mail has reached an all time low. The only legitimate reason for reading The Mail is to reinforce preconceived prejudices, it is the only thing it does well.
And you have the cheek to call me gullible. ;)

I'm not reponsible for the standard of journalism and that is not what this thread is about. I dont buy the Mail to 'reinforce preconceived prejudices' ( whatever they may be, maybe you could explain what you mean)

Well here we go!!! It did cross my mind Jukebox re "who wins" however..as an avid fan I don't tink that is the case. I thought a great match but must admit I expected Miss S to win!!! As I am not a "sporty" person I don't really get how a match could be throwm? Not that you suggested that JB. John, my husband, VERY competitive in all areas of sport said no way was it pre decided!!!
Hey ho another healthy debate.
