Hi Linda
Opened our accounts last week. We just showed our passports

Koc Bank wanted either a passport or a photo driving licence.

Great thanks - I suppose common sense should have told me that but you never know lol!
Over here UK trying to open a bank account you need a lot of ID and I thought with it being a foreign country you might be under more scrutiny.

Hi Carol
Now I really am confused.
How do you get a tax number? What is it for?
It's not as if I will be living off the Turkish state when I get out there, and my (alas) limited pensions are tax paid in the UK.

Hi Farmer
You need a tax no so that the banks can take tax on your interest earned at source. We got our number in June from Fethiye tax office, just had to photocopy passport back page ( photcopier outside office in booth cost 40p for the 2 of us) and then payed a £1 each inside.Just presented this at bank and hey presto account opened there and then.Going back in sept/oct to open sterling deposit account so that transfers to builder will be easier.

If you use finans bank they do not ask for a tax number all they want is a passport, nothing else.
Ayse speaks excellent English ans fills everything out for you - just sign.
