Title: First Victory against Urantas
Post by: Firo on August 01, 2008, 09:46:13 AM
Hi All,

As you may remember we were fighting 2 cases through the courts. The first being the application to build a lime kiln on the same sight as the proposed cement factory.
Well we have had it confirmed and have the paperwork that the Lime Kiln has been stopped by the courts :D
This should bode well for the cement factory case as it is being fought on the same grounds.

So this is our first result to help protect this wonderful area and the health of all of us who live here.
Please keep up the support as the Cement Factory is a much bigger case and we still have to raise the other half of the lawyers costs approx 15000 ytl.

Good news at last

Fi

Has the work on the kiln been killed completely or just until the court case is resolved?

As I said in the post it has been stopped by the courts.
There were 2 cases we were fighting...the Lime kiln & the cement factory. There is only one left, and that is the Cement Factory case and that is still in the courts jurasdiction. We have been told we should have news in the next 2-3 months.
Cheers

Is it logical that if the lime kiln was thrown out then the much larger cement factory has no chance either?

It is logical Scunner but as you know only too well Turkish & logic do not work too well together. ;):D
The cement factory case is being fought on the same grounds so if the courts uphold their own laws it should be stopped, but until the courts say so I am still hoping.
It also adds extra expenses to working a cement factory because now they will have to ship in the Lime.
So fingers crossed..

Well done, Firo and Eric (and everyone else who has faught hard):D
Can you tell us a bit more about this other quarry?  There is already another (smaller but getting bigger all the time) quarry behind my house, Cameli Rd, righthand side driving to Cameli which is owned locally.  Will this new one be in the same vicinity?

The plans we have seen today are showing it between the Incirkoy and Koyu road so not near you Peecee. Quite near the Quarry Urantas are working at present.
12 expats attended the press meeting today in Incikoy and were made extreemly welcome by the locals who thanked us for coming to show our support. There were cameras and videos taken for syndication in local & national press & TV. The petition was rapidly filled and taken by others to gather signatures. We were even invited to have something to eat afterwards by the Baskan.
When the news of the Lime Factory was announced they were very happy.
I have a petition so if you or any others want to sign it let me know. It is with me till Monday night & then it is being taken to Mugla.
Thanks
Fi

Well done Fi and all involved. Uzumlu is a lovely place and this should not have even needed a legal action on the grounds of such an area being protected by Turkish Law in the first place. My favourite saying is "Common sense is not as common as it used to be" and how true this is in this matter. Hopefully without the Kiln the rest becomes more of a formality, fingers crossed for you all. Unfortunatley this has come too late for us as we were looking at Uzumlu to move to last year, but because of this issue decided against it and are now moving to Koycegiz. But I hope it still works out for you all, I met some great ex pats in Uzumlu last September and I know how much you all love the area. All the best. Andrew

You`ll love it in Koycegiz, and as long as you haven`t bought through any of the 2 biggest con merchants there, Babbete of Damla Emlak or Bulent Belli of Koycegiz Real estate, your purchase should go through without a hitch.

I've got photocopies of the Hurriyet and Yeni Asir newspaper articles about the lime kiln verdict, and I'll put them on the Camlik notice board with a bit of a translation. We (the Dernek committee) went to the Üzümlü Jandarma today with a complaint about the blasting at the quarry, especially the big one the other day.

It was a big blast! Is there some law regulating this?

We, the people who attended the meetings have been told that if the people of Uzumlu supply photos of the dust and the time of any blast to Fi, Urantas will get fined for every 7 people who complain.  Can't remember how much.  So get snapping...

The big blast that is being mentioned has been reported to the Jandarma and some of the Turkish committee are going to the main Jandarma in Fethiye today with the pictures and times etc. They are not supposed to blast after 5pm and if 7 or more report it (with pics) Urantas could inccurr a 20,000 ytl fine.
Lets hit them where it hurts in the pocket.

How do you photograph a big bang? :) Seriously is the explosion visible to take a picture of? Does everyone sit around like paparazzi waiting to get the 7 pictures? Genuinely curious. :)

The dust cloud is clearly visible and very easy to photograph. The blast can be felt like an earth tremor as well as heard. Hope this helps you understand.
7 people required to report it plus a couple of pics, sorry should have made myself clearer. ooopps

Suggest you contact Crabbit direct rather than having a pot at him on a subject that is not relevant and he has no interest in
Prehaps a mod can lock this topic?

This is what I think is being referred to.

This is what I think is being refered to......"There are a few people to steer clear of (as there is everywhere), I will name a few because I hate to see people get ripped off.
Koycegiz real estate/koycegiz property (sorry julesbob), and most importantly Babette who is in partnership with Damla Emlak, she will rip you off before she looks at you. (Just ask any expat who lives there, they will verify it)
The most trustworthy estate agent is Ray who runs Pegasus Emlak in the main square.
If you are really serious about moving there, have a word with Scunner as I know he has a friend who is selling their house.

Errr I said on page 1 of this thread that I was going to move to Koycegiz and Crabbit replied with his opinion on the area with a view on certain estate agents, one was Bulent who has finally caught up with the 2008 posting and is now wanting to comment. Let's just say I went, I saw, I visited and decided Uzumlu is a far better place. This looks like it will head to a locked topic.[?]

That was not Crabbits opinion, there are 2 postings on CBF both almost the same. This was a deliberate attempt to slag off 2 businesses. By all means name and shame, but back it up with evidence of any wrongdoing and give me the chance to reply and prove what a vicious liar he is.
I am not commenting on behalf of Damla, just for Koycegiz Emlak.

I think both Crabbit and Bulent have had their say and this should now be locked. If they want to continue then it can be done elsewhere.
