Whilst I have only been in Uzumlu a short time (still back and forth from Ireland) I thought I really must post on here how friendly the wee village is.
Both the locals and ex pats are amazingly friendly. Many of them on here are just great to meet. From people stopping to give you a lift to always talking to you when we meet we have found Uzumlu very very welcoming.
Yes its a lot smaller than Fethiye and not as much happening as Calis etc but for a wee place to relax with superb people in gorgeous surroundings its hard to beat.

Read and Learn!!!!!

cant wait to get there, (4 weeks) also looking forward to meeting people off the forum.
-
Yes Phil, we find the visitors friendly too, when we can understand their accents, LOL *wink-wink*. Kylkimry, I am sure you will love the place.
-
Kylkimry, good to hear you're coming here - do you need any advice on transport, food, beer, shops, barbers, the post office, taxis, local amenities, Fethiye, Gocek, Olu deniz, Oil wrestling - if so I'd suggest you go to the Wine House where it would appear that quite an interesting and knowledgable crowd hang out! If that does not appeal then make a request for info on here!
-
Now about this oil wrestling Chris...
-
See my Seki thread! With all that cooking oil and the 40 degree heat I could have done a good line in fried egg and bacon!
-
Probably explains why you're the darkest man in Uzumlu...
-
chris, will i find you in the wine house, i will be able to get info 1st hand, i dont really want to start another long thread, i have not got the time.
-
I wonder if you will find Chris in the Wine House?? Methinks not.
-
Have made it a rule of mine never to go near the Wine House - however I did watch all Turkey's Euro Cup matches there and had a very enjoyable time. Lots of football and no chat!
-
chris, why dont you go in the wime house? where else do you get a cold beer?
-
In my opinion there are several other better options for a beer/meal in the village. Each to their own. When you and your party get here do try to get to as many of the bars/restuarants as possible. If you have access to transport the choices down the mountain in Calis, Fethiye and even Gunlukbasi are enormous. Menus are varied and prices good - Main course 8ytl+, beer 2.5ytl+. You'll have a great time!
-
Chris. In all my times out there I have never went about Gunlukbasi. Where would ya recommend? I only know the main road the dolus goes through on way to Uzumlu
-
Chris ... sounds like you make rules that you mean to break!!
-
chris, what you say above is ok, but how do yhem prices compare with uzumlu?
-
kylkimry, Prices vary from cheap, the locantas (working men's cafes - none in Uzumlu) but a couple in Gunlukbasi and many in Fethiye, through pide (Turkish pizza)restaurants to more up market places - the Sat in Calis, the Arena in Fethiye to name but 2. You pays your money, you makes your choice! But compared to uk most, if not all eating places here are considerably cheaper and the food is usually good.
-
how far is Gunlukbasi from uzumlu by dolmus? if you can get there from uzumlu

The obvious exception being Sat restaurant, which is expensive and dire.
-
Gunlukbasi is 10 mins by car from Uzumlu, 25 mins by dolmus? It certainly ain't the prettiest place in the world - just a bussling town set between Calis and Uzumlu. But the 2 locantas there are excellent - good Turkish food at very reasonable prices. If you want pretty go to Gocek or Kalkan!
To be fair I haven't eaten at the Sat this summer - sad to hear it may have gone downhill. The location is still pretty good.

10 minutes? what the hell do you drive? :)
-
Scunner makes Kirk Pinar in record time too! -Maybe there's a short cut ;)
-
so can assume its quite a distance then.
-
Gunlukbashi = 10 minutes by skateboard from Uzumlu - its all down hill, just give it a kick and you'll be there in no time :D
-
10 minutes easy, free wheeling and getting the lights at green at the bottom!!!
-
Surely this is Turkey and therefore you can go straight through red lights on a skateboard. Problem yok.
-
Wait till you try to skateboard back up that bloody mountain.
