OK, this evening we found most of one of our grapevines had been denuded by a massive caterpillar. I recon it must have been 3 to 4 inches long, al least half an inch wide and brilliant green. What would this critter turn into once it has metamorphosed? :)

one of the creatures from the noisy tree?
-
An EPK?
-
EPK ne demek???

Rindaloo, is this the wee beasty that you have seen http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=1227 if so its the same beast we had last year on our Oleander and almost stripped them.
-
Eek! I don't want to meet it! Or even worse eat it! Off with its head!!
-
Yes, that's the bloke! It stripped the grapevine, I will have to check the Oleander, which is nearby. I hope there aren't more.
I have just Googled the beastie and it grows into a lovely Moth. NOT in my garden though. I sent it flying onto the wastegreound behind us. Just hope it doesn't bear a grudge..... :o

We had the very man under our veranda roof a few years back. It's about 4-5" across and the funny thing you may not yet appreciate is, at first it isn't totally obvious it is a large moth. Turn the picture upside down and you get this master of freaky disguise:

Ok maybe because you have seen the photo, and maybe because I mentioned it, you may think it's a bit lame. But trust me, if you'd never seen it in a photo, and never seen a moth that size in your life, it's a very effective disguise for a few seconds [:o]

One of our first photos taken in Turkey was of one of these - it was sitting outside our hotel room door on the wall. I hate all butterflies and moths and Nick thought it would be good to take a picture of it to scare me from time to time- every now and then I walk into the study and the PC is randomley showing different photos and this fella appears. EEEEewwwwww
as for the disguise- looks like a flying carp.
-
My god ... am getting rid of my oleanders and their friends!!
-
Flying carp? It looks like a demon reptillious dragon beast, I don't wish for such a creature to be hanging from my veranda roof [:o]
