Yes it's shouting....
Today we have been informed, by the lawyers, that the Courts have ruled in our favour and have said
"IT'S ILLEGAL TO BUILD A CEMENT FACTORY IN UZUMLU"
We have won, so many thanks to those who helped us and those who believed in us and we are so happy to have stopped this blight on the wonderful area of Uzumlu & Incirkoy.
More details to follow when we have the paperwork from the lawyers.
Reason to celebrate...you bet!

YEY YEY YEY. That is wonderful news. Fi and Eric, THANK YOU, so so much for all your hard work and efforts in getting this wonderful result. We owe you several large beers (Jez, my bar bill is growing...) when we are next over. Thats made my day.
-
Woo Hoo!!!!! Absolutely blooming fantastic. Thanks so much for all your very hard work. I am sure we only saw a fraction of the effort you and others put in. Thanks so much again and I assume we still need to raise money to repay what monies have been spent??
-
Yep..the monies are another issue but not at the forefront of my mind today!:D:D:D:D:D
Party to follow soon ;)

brilliant result- just reward for all the hard work you two have put in!! perhaps even the doubters will ,maybe, now show some appreciation ?
-
I wonder how much this is down to the efforts put in by Fi and Eric. We'll never know, but I bet it's a fair proportion.
Well done guys.

It's illegal to do lots of things in Turkey but it still happens though! I sincerely hope the legal/police authorities are robust enough to support and enforce the court's decision.
-
well done guys

Hello Mr Tippett,
ever the optomist I see!! :)
-
No, ever the realist - having lived 2 1/2 years in Turkey.
-
Well Chris,
When we started this fight you said we had no chance, now you say BEWARE. :o
Well done would not have gone amiss but I guess that would have been too much to expect from you ;) 8)
But guess what, we did win and nothing you can say will spoil the celebrations that are going on by the people, Turks and ex pats, who did fight it.
Be happy you might now sell your house and be able to leave Turkey. ;)

2 1/2 years WOW!!!!

well done you guys, I'm afraid I am a fall at the first hurdle type so I admire you for your ability to not give up. Well done.

Well done Fi and Eric and all those involved in stopping this blight on the landscape, a great result:D

Many thanks for your stirling efforts.
-
Well done - you certainly did keep going when it might have been easier for most people to throw in the towel.

Power to the people. :)
-
well done to everyone. great news. does this mean they cannot build it anywhere in uzumlu or just at that location.
-
lets hope so and they don't try it on another site nearby
-
How about a celebratory event for cement factory refusal, eg. big raffle... in Belediyesi hall? Not in local bars/restaurants ... which splits different residents according to allegiance to different local hostelries.....??? Everyone could bring a different savoury or sweet dish, and maybe a few 'bridges could be built'.... and all villagers, Turkish and English could get together. Perhaps the English could supply the food... and announcement made over the loudspeakers! This could possibly be a VILLAGE event, instead of an ex-pat celebration!
-
I am also willing to collect any raffle prizes for the event if there is anyone who has anything to contribute!
-
How about organising 10 such events, so we can qualify to tell people our opinion on them :D
Sounds like a good idea to me, being serious for this one moment :)
-
I am no good at organizing anything, but if something is done, I will try not to poison anyone.
I think it would be lovely if the Turkish locals did come, but I would prefer it if they brought some food. Yummmy.
-
Sounds good to me a local event in the belediye, big raffle to raise some more for the fighting fund, could even invite those funny folk up from Calis never know the may like it up here , hows about it Fi can you organise somthing ? lets show the doubting Thomas,s that Uzumlu can pull together ,never Know perhaps we could have Chris playing the Spoons!!!! lol .Calvin
-
ok lets have something concrete:D
-
Can't, no cement:D:D

Bikerchickblonde & Calvin,
You have a great idea and we wish you success with the organising of it.
The ex-pat committee is worn out after struggling on our own, along with the Turkish committee and a loyal few, for the past year and would greatly appreciate fresh blood into organizing fund raising for the final 15000 YTL to pay the Lawyer etc.
Good luck and when you announce the date we will attend and help spread the word.
Fi & Eric
-
My organising skills are also a thing of the past. I was agreeing with Bikerchick , that it would be a good idea to have a "VILLAGE EVENT". Calvin
-
Wouldn't it be nice for someone else other than the organisers of the protests etc, to organise the "VILLAGE EVENT" as a thank you to those who worked so hard on YOUR behalf.

Well done and thanks for all the effort to achieve this wonderful result. It would have been so sad to see such a beautiful place as Uzumlu spoilt.

Hi ,this is the reason that i made the comments on a party ,the venue issue was a hope that the different factions in the village ,could pull together in a neutal venue,no malice was intended can we please put this to bed once and for all ,as i have said before well done to all you have achieved a great deal, and when and if a party is to be organised , i will give any help i can if asked .

i would just like to say that about 6 months ago all the expats in the village were getting along fine but as the fight for the good cause(stopping the cement factory)got rolling the wedge was driven between the village. None of it was meant, im sure, but things happen.it was a shame as the cause was good. somehow we have to try and build bridges as there is so much all of us can do and go to together. For people reading this who do not live in the village it is still a lovely place and there are no running street battles or bar brawls of any description. We are ALL adults and sometimes comments on here are taken the wrong way or are just frustrations coming out.Hopefully over the festive season everyone can come together and enjoy ourselves.Too many people have been getting upset by comments posted on here recently.
-
How can a common cause drive a wedge between sections of residents? Were some pro-factory?
Somebody please seize the initiative and organise a social event/party for all!!!
-
Probably more to do with the people who do and the the ones that don't, it happens, it's life.
I'm sure nobody wanted the factory but some did not want to get involved in it's downfall, for their own personal reasons and it shouldn't be held against them, some people are like that.
Have a celebration party a.s.a.p. and you could even invite some outsiders in ;) but send a map:D
Tinx ;)
-
Hullabaloo - a general name for some performance, celebration or other noisy event.
So when is the Uzumlu Hullabaloo:D

Outsiders! Outsiders! We dont want no outsiders up here snooping around our village and checking on our village ways! Especially big city folk from Fethiye or Chip Buttyville Calis
