Which is the best supermarket to use for allround weekly shopping in Fethiye.

I have found the biggest supermarkets, migros ,carrefour and tandas much the same. Some have deals one week the others the next and carry a lot of stock, some staff speak English so you can usually find some help if needed. Make sure you get a store card as some shops display 2 prices and you need the card to get the cheaper price. For basic everyday food items and cleaning stuff Bim is the cheapest and good quality, you wont find any "english" brands and very little if any English wording on the packaging. Just make sure you know what your buying :) There are several Bim shops in Fethiye and Gunlukbasi.

It depends on where you're living and whether you've got your own transport.

Migros is the biggest. Tansas is part of the same group and is at the Calis end of town. Carrefour is in the centre of town but you can get free parking there.

Sok is part of the same group as Migros and Tansab but with smaller shops. ( The Turkish equivalent of Tesco Express)

There's also BiM and Genpa.

And Tespo is useful for bulk purchasing.

(BTW The Sok shop in Ovacik has shutdown for the winter and I think the BiM one will also be shutting)

If you look on the net,you will find that,Migros,Tansas,Carrefour, etc show there promotion campaign prices. There are also their subsideries,ie Sok,their price diferentials will give you the average differences found in the shops themselves.Genpa is also very good, but not found in Fethiye yet,You can pretty much plan your shopping at home and just do a round robin once a week. That is if you or the wife like to use the net this way.Good luck

BiM is still open in Ovacik but Genpa looks as if it might be shutting down.

Milliemars - you should buy your coffee from the 'coffee man' at one of the entrances to the Fish market in Fethiye. He sells 200gm of 'Nescafe Gold' for 6YTL or thereabouts. It certainly tastes like Nescafe gold but is in bags.

When we're over, we always use the Bim shop in Gunlukbasi.  Prices are good and their range isn't bad (we tend to eat out most evenings anyway, so just shop for breakfast, lunch and snacks for the kids).

Azda can have some good offers too they also do english goods from time to time.  But the best place for english food is still the little shop opposite Mendos prices are good too.

If you have a problem with the way we run CBF you are allowed to say so. I prefer that to sniping.
Title: Which Supermarket to use

Sorry Sir, didnt mean to snipe, was just having a bit of friendly banter, no offence intended whatsoever. I really enjoy the forum and consider myself severely reprimanded 8)

Ok but I do get sensitive to comments relating to us locking topics. Not one of us want to lock a single topic and we do only when experience tells us that the topic has degenerated without any hope of repair. If we didn't lock them I doubt CBF would still be here.

Happy Christmas  :)

Just thought I would say we went in to the A-101 near the Otogar this afternoon after a lovely meal a few doors away at the new Corbaci that Tribalelder recommended (it was very good - simple - very clean and 16.5 ytl for meze / bread / pide / lamb sis / salad / more bread / small water / 1 coffee and 1 apple tea !!!).

Anyway - A-101 is a bit limited - neat and tidy - but won't be going back - BIM is still my favourite  8)

Anne - no - go to lights past Otogar at Shell Garage / Carrefor - tn left 50 yds down on the left.

Its a bit complicated so I would let Barrie read this as there are two things for you to remember - as well as driving :D

Just answered your text - I thought you said you were away and I topped up yesterday - got about 4 texts from vodaphone all at once (as you do) so ignord them all - sorry - not an age problem - honest!

Lucy - you are so right - went to DIA for the first, time on Friday and bought a pair of decent hair straighteners for 29 YTL (not for me as you will see by my photo) and 2 nice cushions at 4.90 YTL each.

Had a good look around and will go again!  :)

Title: Which Supermarket to use

As you go into town - turn left at the ptt post office - past the front of the fish market on your left and it is at the end of the road on the right hand corner.

This is the same one way road that takes you out of town and eventually through textile alley.

Hope that helps?

I see you might be after the straighteners like I was?  ;)

Yes, i use this quite a lot as i can park outside. very good special offers and interesting non-food items.
Also i like DIA - there is one not far from HSBC bank in the town. They have great deals there recently bananas at 1.99 kg and mandarins at 99k kg, cheap if you can't get to the market on the right days.

Walk across the road, turn right and head up the hill towards Ovacik. The first shop on your left is the chemist's and DiA's entrance is next. The DiA shop is being built in the basement of that block of shops
