Useful article about insurance in Fethiye Times - but they used the wrong link - so here is the right one:
See: http://www.dask.gov.tr/232.html
Once on the site click "Evinizin DASK sigorta primini hesaplamak için tiklayin" at the bottom of the centre section.
For most of us then select MUGLA for the first box - then FETHIYE - then appropriate DISTRICT Fethiye, Ciftlik, Olu etc
Second Box most will select: CELIK BETONARME KARKAS - Steel Reinforced Concrete
Then put the number of Sq Mtrs of your property in the final Daire Yüzölçümü box.
Type in the SECURITY CODE and then click Hesapla
You will then get the Estimated Insurance Rebuild Cost and the Insurance Premium Price for your own DASK that should be charged if arranged for you by a third party - might stop you being overcharged - if you know what it should be!!! ;)

Hi Folks
This is a topical post for me, so grateful for the information. Regarding the square metres of your property: if it's an apartment, is this simply the footprint of all rooms, including balconies?
Replies much appreciated. Thanks
John

Have tried unsuccessfully 5 times to get Dask Calculation[?] Keep getting new security code to enter. Tried upper case, lower case to no avail? usually these boxes arent case sensitive. Any idea what I'm doing wrong.

Having paid this last month I am pleased to see Aviva charged me the exact amount

I am now going to probably sound thick we are about to renew our dask insurance but on our tapu it states the overall size of the complex 1400 meters square and our apartment is one 12th of this. What would i put as the size in the box to work out the price
-
I think they mean you share 12th of the total land. The apartment size itself may not be on your deed.

Dear all,
A neighbour told me that DASK insurance is now compulsory (?) I bought our apart in July 2009-SOKAK 840 and am certain that our T solicitor told us that if Fethiye goes under (god forbid) that is that and all of Fethiye would be flat! Or words to that extent. Do not want to cause controversey here or ill feeling but she was most honest. Can someone advise is this DASK insurance now compulsory and should I now be finding a policy PDQ! (?)
-
Yes DASK is compulsory - but wouldn't get excited about rushing to buy one - I think its the one thing there is not a fine for paying late.

Sam this is (worst case scenario) precisely why you need the earthquake insurance, to protect your investment/home. Apart from the fact that it is compulsory, the cost is relativly low and when you compare the cost to the protection offered it is good value.
Also, and I am not completly certain here, you could invalidate/reduce any claim payment on your house contents/buildings insurence if you do not have DASK, as some of the rebuild costs from earthquakes are paid by the buildings insurance.
-
DASK has always been "compulsory", even for illegally built properties. ;)

Busybee, I had the same problem. My house is in Uzumlu but I had to put yesiluzumlu in, then it worked. :)
Great site, many thanks

What happens if you live in an apartment and some people pay and some don't?

I asked that same question when I renewed the apartment DASK, the bank manager I was dealing with did say that many Turkish people do not insure their property, but did not know what the outcome would be as it has never happened yet.
