If the rate in England drops any lower you will have to pay the bank to look after your money. Alan

Some UK banks are offering 0%, so with charges you are paying them, ie losing money.

Cadavanti, this place is full of bankers, most of them haven't a clue what they're talking about though they like to think they do!
I'm still getting 20 % and if you have a joint a/c the guarantee is 100,000tl, though what a Turkish guarantee actually means is open to debate.
The Fethiye Times is a very useful site and as I understand it Turkish banks deal predominently in cash and are not exposed to loans and debts to the same extent as uk banks and are therefore relatively safe during these turbulent times.

The current trend cannot continue.  Lending rate is 13%, investment rate is 20%.  Therefore if you borrow 1000 ytl over 1 year you pay back 1130 ytl.  If you invest the 1000 ytl you have borrowed over the year you get back 1200 ytl.  Pay back what you have borrowed and you make a profit of 70 ytl.  In other words the bank makes a loss of 70 ytl.  Multiply this up to whatever figure you like, the banks make a loss.  How long can this continue?  I forsee a big reduction in investment rates before long.

No I am not a banker but I can do simple maths.

I went in Yapikredi for my interest on friday, it has now dropped to 15%, and as far as i know it is still only a 50,000ytl guarantee, when was it increased, and when was it publicly stated. Alan

It is still only 50000 Guarantee. The 100000 was not approved by parliament.

The guarantee is still 50.000 ytl per person. And %20 is really impossible today but %13 and %15 are really low.  :)

Central bank took %2 down because of international markets position.
I think this will go down for next two month too. This is a good idea to make your interest accounts as long as you can like 50-60 days.

If you need any help please do not hesitate to send an email.

Ah, is that what it is, and here's me thinking it was a version of a plump smiling face ;)

1. We live in Uzumlu not Calis (yeh I know its a Calis forum)

2. Chris has been asking about transporting house furniture back to the UK.

3. Chris has been trying to find a new home for his two cats.

Okay we may have jumped to the wrong conclusions ;) but perhaps Chris can come on here and set the record straight.

I also know that it is none of our business Chris, my first post was supposed to be tongue in cheek/funny, but Crabbit is being Crabbit:D
