Title: Help Wanted - Charity Shop Break-in
Post by: Jacqui Harvey on February 16, 2009, 19:24:14 PM
As  an Antiques Dealer I value items donated to the Cancer Research Shop in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire.     I took home a Masonic item from this shop to
clean it and research it.  It was a gold coloured Masonic device enclosed in glass (both sides) around the circumference of the piece was a silver band which has small silver balls at intervals all around  it.   The top had a small silver loop.
I cleaned the piece and found it was dated for Birmingham 1866 with a full set of Victorian silver marks.
The gold coloured Masonic device, had  a "G" in the centre.   The size of the piece was about  3/4" across.
Through my research I found this piece to be a watch fob and  quite rare.
I took it back to the Cancer Research Shop and they placed it into the glass case on the counter, this was on Wednesday 11th  February.  The price of £60.00 was put on it.    They had two enquiries about it and one offer of £30.00  which they refused.  On Sunday 15th February during the early hours of the morning thieves broke into the shop and stole the Masonic Watch Fob along with other items.  However, the Shop Manager thinks the Watch Fob was the reason for the break in.
This item would only be of interest to a  member of the Masonic Order , and will probably be offer for sale to a Masonic member if you are offered it  please contact the Police,  Or you can contact me.
Please pass this message on to anyone else you may think it might be offered to.
I know that sometimes items can be taken out of the area that they were stolen from, and I also know this website has Scottish members.
It's a despicable crime to rob a Charity Shop and I hope this thief will be caught.
Jacqui.
