Title: Nationwide Debit/Credit card
Post by: Shrek on February 26, 2009, 00:09:12 AM
As of May 2009 Nationwide will be passing on the transaction fee imposed by Visa on overseas credit card transactions and, as of June 2009, the same will apply for debit cards.

Quote:
When you use a Nationwide Visa debit card or credit card to make a transaction in certain currencies other than sterling, Visa charge a fee for each transaction and Nationwide currently pays that fee on your behalf.

We will start to pass this fee onto you from 6 May 2009 on credit card and from 1 June 2009 on debit card and it will be included in the sterling amount shown on your statement.

The fee is currently 0.84%. From 1 July 2009 this fee will increase to 1%.

The list below provides details of the countries for which Visa charge a fee. To check if you will be charged, please search for the country you are visiting by using the A-Z list. Unless stated otherwise a fee will be charged.

Looks like Turkey will be free:D

NW is still not charging for EU countries, quite a lot of other Western/Southern European countries, and Turkey. Other banks charge for these places. For other places around the world NW propose charging 1% unlike the 2.75% that many banks apply. So, I w0on't be closing my "Going Abroad" account with them.

Dope that I am I can't even find the information on their website! - it's still advertising for new customers at no charges to withdraw abroad!  However, I do understand what Shrek means, it's great that it continues to be free in Turkey, but I was planning to take my NW flex to Spain and Italy as well this year - are they on the list?

I didn't miss the point - I don't only travel to Turkey - good that Turkey is still free but I used my NW cards in other countries that are now going to be charged.  Good news that the charge will be less than other banks but not as good as no charge !!!!
