Title: Blackthorn Cider Outrage
Post by: Colwyn on April 10, 2009, 15:05:25 PM
GOMs in Bristol are up in arms over the desecration of one the city's favourite drinks. The Dry Blackthorn recipe has been watered down to 4.7% (from 5%) and made more "mellow" (which is to say "sweeter") by Gaymers (the gang of shysters who now own the brand) having taken it over from (noble) Taunton Cider some years back. In pub after pub you hear the cry go up "Aaargh!!! Tastes like bloody Strongbow!". There are few insults more potent in Bristol. To describe someone as "A mass-murdering international terrorist who has a fake tan" is somewhat less condemnatory than saying "He drinks Strongbow". Whatever is the world coming to?

P.S Look how upset I am. I have finished a sentence with a preposition. I must be in shock.

Don't bother with either of them ! Go for "Katy" bottled by Thatchers of Somerset. At 7.4 % it takes your cares away.... !

I'm drinking Strongbow at this very minute and I quite like it :D:D. It's 0.3% stronger than dry Blackthorn before it was watered down. I've tried Dry Blackthorn a few times but thought it was a bit "dry"  :) I also like a glass or three of Magners :D.

Magners over rated over priced £3.75 BOTT cider used to be one cheapest of all beers in the good ole days.

PMSL - It's from LANCE - what do you expect?
Strongbow - YUCK!
I've also noticed the cans/bottles available now are not to my taste - don't like sweet ciders. The choice seems to have gone, never heard of many of the ones available in the supermarkets now.
Last time we took some out for Olga I just couldn't find ANY of the ones I would have liked to have taken her. Goodness knows what the one I took over was like?
