Title: La Casa Di Mama
Post by: sunnyd on April 20, 2009, 14:55:38 PM
A little birdy has told me that the opening night of this restaurant is tomorrow. The restaurant is where Han used to be and the chef (and partner) was the head chef at Bella Mamas for over 7 years, he has taken the majority of the kitchen staff and other chefs with him too. They will be serving Italian and Mexican food.
oops I originally posted the restaurant name wrong.. :-\ I have changed it  ;)

Oh, sounds like Bella's might be in for a rough season then.

Would be interested in knowing what it is like...never had a bad meal at Bella's so the expectation is high!!!

no it didn't exist in Calis 7 years ago... I didn't say that it did [^], but Bella Mamas was in Hisaronu for about 8 years (or maybe more) before they opened a restaurant in Calis!! Also there was their second restaurant in Fethiye, La serenata, that was open for at least 4 years too!!

We were at the opening night for La Casa Di Mama last night.
The restaurant has had a complete refurb and is hardly recogniseable as the 'old Han'.  :o
The kitchen area has been gutted and opened up which looks very smart (and very clean!). The food was up to Murat's high standard (as it was at Bella Mamas), we had Italian, so may well try the Mexican next time  ;)
The service was great, and Melik is an experienced head waiter which showed.
I wish them good luck for the season and hope that they are successful after all of their hard work, they deserve it  :)

No, Bella Mamas will open for the season soon. Just the head chef and most of the kitchen staff have moved. The head chef (Murat) has opened his own restaurant.. La Casa Di Mama

I hope all goes well however I always have concerns when a restaurant 'specializes' in more than one cuisine, in this case Italian and Mexican. In my experience ( as a diner), it seems that to diversify in this way lessens the quality.

JMHO and doesn't make it fact.

One of the big attractions for people at Bella Mama's, apart from the excellent food was you could stand outside and look at the menu without being approached and hassled.
I went yesterday to look at the new Casa DI Mama menu, as soon as I stopped to look the waiter came running out and gave me the same old line, about great food rice salad and chips etc. I would have thought he would have realised this was a reason why Bella mama's did well.

rice salad and chips?? nothing on their menu is served like that  :o None of the waiters there worked at Bella Mamas... maybe he was just trying to help.
I think Bella Mama's is the ONLY restaurant in Calis where they leave you to read the outside menu.

I loved Bella Mama's we were planning to go in August for our son in laws birthday, can someone be a little more specific with the position of Casa di mama, or the Han, can't seem to place it.  We'll just have to try them both before the party and then decide where to go!!! :-)

We've had 2 lovely meals at Bella Mama's in Hisaronu (years ago) spoilt by the use of cream foam on the Calypso Coffee.  Do they now use real pouring cream??

Go past bella mamas, past the Orient, past Bus stop/Bambu and La Casa Di Mamas is just next door to Cafe Soul. You can't miss it as the table cloths have the Italian flag on them.  :)

Well we had some crappy fillet steaks in Bella Mamas two years ago and when asked if we enjoyed or meal I politely said that the steaks were not up to their usual standard. I expected some sort of apology or maybe the offer of a free drink but all we got was total ignorance. Not been back since even though we loved the place.

As someone once said 'Sorry seems to be the hardest word'

would just like to thank all the staff and customers for making last night so much fun.  The food as always was excellent, and the restaurant full of fun loving customers, highlight of the night has to be all the staff dancing around the restaurant in traditional Turkish dancing, they encouraged customers to join in, and many did.  Thankyou all so much for making last night a great kick off to the season, the first of many please.....

Enjoyed eating at La Casa Di Mama twice during our recent visit.  Excellent food and friendly service.  We usually go to Bella Mamas but as we knew the staff and the Chef where now at Casa's we decided not to both with Bella's.  We were not disappointed.
Would highly recommend La Casa.

I want to say a HUGE thank you for a wonderful night out at La Casa Di Mama last week.  My family were out to Calis on holiday and the 9 of us had a fantastic meal coupled with exemplary service.
Nothing was too much trouble and I know that serving a table with 3 little ones is tricky.  They served the children first so we could let them go and play on the beach. (They even packeted up the children's leftover pizza's without us even asking).
The steaks at Casa di Mama really are melt in the mouth, but I think when you are confronted with so many restaurants down at the seafront all vying for your business, for me it is always going to be a warm smiling and welcoming face that wins overall and it is Nikkie who adds that extra special added touch to the restaurant.  Thank you to Nikkie and of course to the excellent chef ;) and the brilliant team at Casa di Mama, we will definitely be back.

La Casa has a 'summer special' this week, they are offering 10% discount off food orders from the main menu. This may happen again later on in the season too.
They also have a change to Saturday night entertainment, Latin dancers and alternative belly dances (romany, tribal and tulle).

Went to Casa di Mamas, best place to eat in Calis beach, without doubt!!! Went on Saturday 18th, it was busy, a very nice lady (sd) got the boys to get us a table for 2 straight away, (all the other parties were 6-10 people), very good efficient service, great food, the steak is awesome, the choices of sauces is extensive too. Highly recommended, but get there early on weekend nights!!

hi just returned this week from calis
was really disapointed in la casa di mama:(
came highly recommended, but bellas won this battle hands down.
i thought the rave music during dinner and the token football tops on the wall really lacked class.also the casa steak on display outside bore no resemblance to the one i was served.would recommend bella mammas, no rave, no gimmicks and no tough steaks ;)

We have always liked Casa di Mama, and as the staff came from Bella's and it was much cheaper to eat there I think they won hands down, never had a bad meal there.  however, as it's an Italian restaurant we always order Italian. We have never ordered steak, in fact we never order steak anywhere when we are on holiday.  I really don't understand this fixation with steak, it's so boring.  We can all eat steak at home in Britain where they actually raise beef cattle.
Title: La Casa Di Mama
Post by: Bluwise on July 13, 2010, 22:04:57 PM
We don't eat steak that often when away so we're not fixated on it - but when we did, the quality and flavour of the meat and the way it was cooked beats many restaurants at home hands-down.
The price is better too even though it has gone up sooo much.

Yes steak pizzaiola, is steak with a tomato sauce.  However, steak, is steak, is steak.  I buy it locally in Scotland and it's the best. My point is, judgement on this Forum of restaurants, no matter if they are Chinese, Italian, Turkish is the steak they serve. It absolutely baffles me.  I think it a British thing to have steak when you go out for a meal in the U.K. So when in Turkey the same thing must be done, even though Turkey is not a beef producing country.
I have lost count of the number of times I click into a restaurant recommendation on this website only to be told the steak is.. good, the best or tough....yawn :(

Have to say Jacqui I'm with you on the steak thing I dont get the fascination with it either! Its great I do enjoy it but I wouldnt go miles for a decent steak! We have a fab butchers locally where I can get one! Its simple cooking and even I dont bu**ar it up- actually I like to eat food out that I cant get at home!
Saying that- I have enjoyed the steaks in Bella Mamas and La Casa as the sauces which accompany them are what has attracted me to them- in fact the filleto Oscar springs to mind!
Hope La Casa doesnt let us down as there will be around 25/30 ladies eating there in August for a 'hen' afternoon!

We love Turkish food and usually eat it every day on holiday. We stayed for 21 days last visit and probably ate Turkish food 98% of the time, but, like in the U.K. you occasionally want a change so we go either to Casa or Chinese Breeze. However, strangely enough we have an Italian meal at La Casa and a Chinese meal at the Breeze.
It's interesting to note that at Turkish Restaurants like Nichola & Dogan's there is no steak on the menu, it's not a thing that Turkish people traditionally eat, because there are no beef cattle locally and it's expensive to eat imported meat.  Turkish restaurants serve steak for the Brits, just like they serve full English breakfasts and Sunday dinners.
But I could reverse the question (without swearing) and ask.. Why go to Turkey and visit Turkish, Italian, Chinese and
India restaurants judge the restaurant on the Steak they serve?  :)

We went to La Casa Di Mama last night. Pleasant easy listening music playing while we were eating. Our food was delicious.Probably the nicest lasagne I have ever eaten in Turkey. Barrie had a chicken dish and it was all served up hot. Judging by how busy it was it is still a very popular place to eat. It is quite special. We were very happy to see Tevik again. He is much happier working there.

Sadly not a 100% recommendation from us this year. We would normally visit twice during a visit (which is saying something as we don't use the seafront much) but although we had good meals last week, our daughter loves their home made fish fingers and was devastated to get hard, overcooked economy shop bought ones as found in Tespo cash & carry in Fethiye. We bought them when they first appeared in around 2004 and they were truly horrible back then too. Not anything like the previous kitchen made ones in the restaurant last year and not anything like Birdseye ones - no flakes of fish, just mush.

It's a small point perhaps but it meant the four of us didn't return.

My troupe ate here on our last night because my son and his mates really wanted a pizza. I only wanted to eat Turkish food during my stay

When the got there they decided they wanted pasta instead. My wife, my daughter and her friend all had different steaks and ironically I had a pizza.....ironically a BIG mistake !

I ordered the garlic prawns as a starter and they were garlicky but woefully under-seasoned.

I sampled the steaks and they were all amazing. The boys spoke highly of their pasta too. My own "special pizza" was alarmingly poor. To me pizza has to be either thick and chewy or thin and crispy but this was thin and soggy to the point of almost wet and I only ate about half of it.

When the head waiter cleared the table he asked if everything was ok and I told him about my pizza and that I  had expected it to be crispy if it was a thin pizza. His first reaction was to reply "If you wanted it crispy you should have asked". Before I had a chance to react to that comment my wife said "You can't turn the blame onto him". He then went to the kitchen and I saw him talking to the chef and to be fair he came back and apologised profusely and offered me something as compensation.

So a mixed review overall but my family do recommend the steak and the pasta

Sorry to say we were not impressed this year. Normally one of our favourite places to eat. Service was very poor, wrong dishes served. We did not visit again. It seems that they try too hard to get customers in but cant look after the customers already seated, we noticed this with several restaurants this year.

34 of us went there last week( we booked). I was a bit worried as there were so many of us. Food was great. Service was ok. But everyone had a really good night. In fact most people booked to go back. The steak with blue cheese was delicious as was the pizza di casa.

We enjoyed a great 'end of season meal' there last year but missed this time by one day (now back in UK). Bella Mamas is doing the same on Sunday.  Other great deals at the moment: Yasaroglu Hotel in Ovacik: 11.50TL for two course meal (soup and chicken with garlic mushroom sauce with all trimmings) really nice.  For those looking for the cheapest Efes :D Fatmas in Hisaronu only 2.5TL for large Efes - didnt go in but saw when driving past.
