Once again our grateful Government has shown how much they appreciate people that are willing to die for this country, (no,not mandelson.).They've put up a set of barriers that most Gurkhas cant get over,in order to prevent them living here after service,I think their legal team should advise them to enter the country as illegal immigrants or bogus asylum seekers or hi'jack a load of planes in Afghanistan and fly them into Stanstead Airport. They would be well looked after then. What a sodding insult.!:-\:-\:-\

That`s new labour for you.

OMG, just posted on another topic with similarity, and I am not (at least I thought I was'nt)politically minded.
I'm confused who stands for what in politics, but I do know right from wrong, and fair from unfair, wonder if confused.com could help.:P

Agree entirely with the Gurkha issue, and if any proof was needed how well they are thought of (except by this out of touch government)the applause they got at last years rememberence sunday said it all

i think it is a disgrace after all that was promised and all for nothing joanne lumley as worked so hard for the campaign
-
labour has never been a party to look after our armed services, why should thay change now. all those who voted them in hang your heads in shame.
-
I am immensly proud to have served almost 24 years with the army, and prouder still to have served with the Gurkhas for part of that time, it is indeed a screaming scandal that you can fight for this country, you can be wounded and maimed for this country, good grief the government will even let you die for this country, but live here, not likely. Gurkhas are grafters, good honest hard working grafters, you wont see them clogging up the benefits office. Most of them are better than a large sections of our society, it is indeed a disgrace at their treatment.
-
Sandrats, Thank you, many of us are also proud of you.
For the Immigration minister (I forget his name, another puffed-up talking suit) to say that we cannot afford it is scandalous; we have a debt, both moral and legal, and it must be paid.
We must never forget that the Gurkhas have served this country for over 200 years and are one of the most respected regiments in the british army. They have been killed and injured for this country, now they are insulted and still they hold thier heads high with dignity.
Good luck to all of them.

There is a vote in parliament this wednesday on the issue, it won't change anything but we can make our presence felt by urging our MPs to turn up and vote. You can contact your MP via http://www.theyworkforyou.com/. 8)

Dear Khalid Mahmood,MP
I wish to register my disgust at the Governments attitude to the Gurkha issue. If there are insufficiant funds to care for them properly, perhaps we should kick out the Afghan Hi'jackers,or the Bogus Asylum Seekers,or the Illegal Immigrants and then maybe we could look after the Gurkha's properly.!!We could also divert some of the M P's Expenses to this far better cause.I hope you will carry my thoughts into Wednesdays Debate
DONE.!! ;) ;) :) :) Good site,now bookmarked.Keep the buggers on their toes.!!

Visit this site & sign the petition. http://www.gurkhajustice.org.uk

i have just signed myself, and emailed the link to everyone on my email list. l think the way the Gurkhas are treated by the UK govt is F****** disgusting & the whole lot should be put to ridicule by all the people of Britain who appreciate a First Class loyal soldier, and should have the right to be classed as British after a certain length of time in the British Army. l have had contact with these people & they are completely honourable men, in contrast to thousands of scum that have done nothing for the British people, but scrounge of the state. l am not classing all refugees as scum because that would be completely out of order & not true.
-
Just signed petition myself. Am an ex squaddie who was affiliated to a Gurkha regiment and was proud to wear the kukri's on my uniform. A disgraceful way to treat those prepared to give their lives in service, please can as many as possile support this worthwhile cause?
-
The govt were defeated today 267 to 246.:D:D:D So the Ghurkas might be treated more fairly by this scum Govt now. We shall see.
WW
-
WW.The 246 should be made to enlist and be posted to Afghanistan.I know of a soldier that is out there. He was'nt paid for 14 weeks due to a "computor error",and on his last leave home (14 days cut to 11days,due to a shortage of Hercules planes,)the troops were told at the airfield that if they were using public transport to get to their home addresses they were NOT to travel in uniform,in case it caused offence to some of the ethnic minority's.This soldiers mother was in tears, telling me this.dont we look after them well.!!! :-\:-\:-\
-
victory for the gurkhas, good news on telly tonight.well done to everyone who signed the petition to their MP
-
I just hope that we the voters have memories that can hold true until 2010 and that some of these MP and ministers lose thier ticket on the gravy train. although i do feel all we'll end up doing is getting different set passengers on said train.
-
C1.I'll accept the new passengers,if only to watch this current lot lose thier "power",and have to come back out into the real world. There again, their bank accounts are bulging.!!! :-\:-\:-\:-\

Victory for Joanna Lumley on behalf of the Ghurkas.
Well done Joanna :)
-
On behalf of the country. Their arrogance towards the Ghurkas is secondary to their arrogance in the face of public opinion. They don't need to lose many votes to lose many marginal seats at the general election, and this single act of total disregard for the opinion of the people will translate into enough votes to lose the majority of them.
When will Governments learn that they can't ignore public opinion if they want to remain in Government? It's hardly rocket science.
-
WELL DONE to the Gurkhas and Ms Lumley. One up the rear end for politicians.Change is in the air and WE can keep it changing for the better :)
-
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith told MPs she was "proud to offer this country's welcome to all who have served in the brigade of Gurkhas".
:o That`s not what she said last week.

Indeed Crabbit. But we you talking about Jacqui Smith. Enough said
-
Very true Crabbit. Lst week she said "that was a crap p0rno film, thank God we aren't paying for it"
-
one wonders how many, duck houses, moat cleans and p0rno films over the years that we have paid for and never seen. intersting to note that alot of "Blair babes" have been on the fiddle, can't wait untill we see the back dated stuff on what he claimed.
-
To pull the two stories together, I calculated (from available estimates) the the cost to the UK of allowing a Gurkha family to reside in the UK for a year is way less than one moat cleaning.
Back in context I believe.
-
Sad but true Scunner. But what a great outcome. In a matter of a few weeks people power has got the politicians and whitehall on the retreat. It looks like the gravy train has hit the buffers and a large number of its passengers will have to disembark at the next election. :) :)
-
For the times they are achanging. What time's the revolution.?.
-
Thats up to all of us Georgdieboy. If all of us voters voted against all of the current MPs we would have a brand new Parliament next year, with new MPs,who would realise the cost of not listening.!(or we could just sit on our a***s and moan)
;) ;) :) :)
