I seem to remember some time ago postings about home made wine that can be bought in Uzumlu in a shop somewhere. Can anyone say where it can be bought and is it nice or not. Thanks
-
Most of the shops and bars in Uzumlu seem to have a stash of it, usually sold in litre coke bottles. Personaly I think you would be best off using it as drain cleaner :)
-
lets just say, it's an acquired taste....:D[xx(]

So to recap - most of the shops and bars sell it in litre coke bottles but it's not nice to drink. Thanks for replies

It is an acquired taste but scunner is spot on, it is excellent on fish and chips !!!
-
First time I tried it I just assumed I'd got a glass from a bad bottle, that it had corked. No corks on these coke bottle I learned, so I had got the genuine article in it's most splendid form.
The first time I tried it was in fact the last time I tried it.

Scunner
Is that the "wine" you sold me at 55 YTL a Litre telling me that it was the best wine in Turkey. 8)

No, that was a coke bottle I'd p***ed in. Far higher quality.

to be fair Pattimac - it varies a great amount ! One of the villagers gave us a bottle of his own produce and actually it was quite pleasant even Mr Pookie (who works in the wine industry and knows about these things..) said that it was good. But I do believe the said gentlemen had fortified it with a little brandy (or possibly tractor fluid) ! - it was very port like and not like the normal village vinegar at all. He and his wife came around with bags of olives etc, sat out our kitchen table and demolished a couple of bottles (Mrs villager didn't of course, she sat there tutting at him all night saying how naughty it was of him !!). But Mr Pookie seemed to enjoy it well enough :D

I have had both good village wine and bad.... depends where you get it from!
