We had a leaflet at our Villa for the Cese Market (near the Oykan Hotel) in Calis with details of free deliveries and the services they offer. We called around to see them with two sheets and four pillow cases I had washed, as ironing was advertised at 3 TL per kilo. I asked for them to be only ironed. I left the sheets off and told the guy I would pick them up. The next day we had a visit from Cese with another price list. We were going to have a barbeque and asked if they would bring up some brickettes and some firework and also the sheets and pillowcases. The guy was very helpful and when he returned a couple of hours later he brought the sheets etc, and the items we asked for and also 1 kilo of steak!!!!. We assumed he had miss heard us, as we already had steak for the barbeque, however, we just bought the steak from him as we thought it was a genuine mistake. We noted on the invoice the ironing was 4 TL.
The next week we visited the Cese Market with two sheets and four pillow cases and asked for them to be just ironed. The guy said he would deliver them the next day as he knew our Villa now. Next day he arrived at our Villa with his brother and demanded 12.50 TL for the ironing. My husband was in the shower at the time. I told him that it was only 4 TL last week but he was adamant that it was 12.50 TL. I could not find the receipt for last week or the price list, he then said he was take 10 TL. I gave him the 10 TL. After they left I found the price list it was 3 TL per kilo. We weighed the ironing with our suitcase scales, it weighed 1.4 Kilos.
This is a warning if you use this place to get the items you want and the price sorted out initially so there cannot be any mistakes. Incidentally, the steak was tough and stringy.

Don't all these dishonest businesses know we tell all their scams to hundreds of other Brits on here? Someone tell them ;)
CESE MARKET (NEAT OYKUN HOTEL) = RIP OFF, AVOID
My mum used to put the sheets under the cushions of the settee :D
-
I get my crate of beer delivered from there 47.5 ytl, anyone know anywhere better? I will speak to him next time I see him.
-
Keith, I made the mistake of buying cotton sheets they are a nightmare to iron when they dry, I would love to put them under the cushions and find the fairies had magically straightened them.
Tinks, I suppose you may get a difference service from this place as you are a resident in Calis and not a visitor, who knows, but my facts on how we were treated speak for themselves.
Jacqui
-
Jacqui, I also bought cotton sheets in Gunlukbasi - as you say, a nightmare to iron. :( I took over a couple of spares (the supposedly non-iron type) from Dunelm and a cheapie £4 iron from Tesco. A quick once-over and they're done! :D
-
Yes, I am now gradually replacing my cotton sheets, although they are cheap in Turkey you would need an industrial steam press to iron them. I managed to buy some fitted sheets in Debenhams in Istanbul when we visted a couple of weeks ago. Will have a look in Dunelm before we go out to Calis again. Thanks for the info.
Jacqui.

Primark sheets are the best!
-
The first time you get in the bed the sheets are messed up, what's the point ironing them, just wash them and put them on the line, let the wind blow the creases out, can't you tell i live on my own, lol. Alan
-
I completely agree :D
-
Typical women, a story about a rip off is forgotten whilst a discussion on sheets takes it's place.
-
Quite right Keith, however, I don't think Number2 will like being described as a woman!!.
We will not use the Cese Market again, as being conned twice is just too much. Will go back to the laundry in the main street if necessary. However, if everyone who reads this takes the precaution of getting things clear with the Cese if they use them, then I think the object of the thread has been achieved.

The guy who runs the shop is quite pushy. We placed an order once which he delivered promptly but I was out and my husband had to go upstairs to retrieve his wallet to pay him. He expected that the guy would wait for him on the dorrstep but when he came down, he was inside in the hall having a good look around . Didnt like that .He continues to pop round with price lists but instead of putting them in the postbox outside the gate,if he sees signs of life he strolls straight into the garden. Gives me the creeps! Thankfully there are plenty of other places who will deliver free of charge.
-
His brother just walked into our garden too, and the next time he arrived up he again came into the garden then tried to follow me into the house. He was a creepy guy too and kept calling me Darling.
It would be interesting to see a list of other places that do deliveries as we have not see any advertised.
Jacqui.
-
I feel as though I have to replie to this topic. I have used that shop loads and do admit I got ripped off once by the brother for a box of cat biscuits but when I said they were over priced he let me off a few lira.
Rammi the owner has brought me loads of deliveries to my apartment and come in and I have never felt threatened by him ever, he also calls me darling and I really think that is just his way.
He also made a phone call for me once from his phone about some furniture I was expecting.
I am not saying that charging too much for the laundry was right, it wasn't, but I genuinely think he does not mean any harm at all.
-
Sorry, if I get ripped off by someone(twice) and I don't feel comfortable with them I tend not to
use them again. Obviously, he means no harm, he just tries it on with foreigners.

I read this topic some while ago, had a spare 1/2 hour after dinner tonight so went to investigate the Ces Market as I had previously collected a price list from there but had yet to use them. I was greeted in a warm & friendly manner, allowed to browse at my leisure, treated respectfully when I asked about the prices/delivery of their goods + the varying alternatives about delivery etc. explained clearly & politely.
So, I then decided I would show the owner (Rambo as he introduced himself) this topic & ask his opinion. I explained everything to him clearly, Jacquis dislike, Karens like etc. I also explained the usage of the word "darling" MAY upset SOME women, especially when alone. Rambo looked at me in dismay, he had no idea that he nor his brother (who uses this term all the time) had been upsetting anyone, I believe his dismay was 100% genuine as he asked me how to apologise to anyone he had upset.
He clearly remembered Jacqui from her profile pic saying there was a dispute over the laundry so he's not unintelligent. I am not saying they are good or bad folk nor am I recommending them to the members of the forum as I've yet to use them, just giving an account of 1/2 hour spent in the Ces Market earlier today.
PS: Current price of a crate of Efes is 72.5tl, cooked chickens 12.5tl, water 5.5tl, all delivery charges included in those prices.
-
I have used them for years and never a problem
-
Same old story here.... vote with your feet.
We have never had bad service from this shop and we have found
him very reliable.
You get the service you pay for.
It is worth it sometimes just to get things delivered to your door, particularly when its 45deg. Lol.
-
Considering the topic is well over 2 years old, I can't imagine a scenario where you'd just walk into someone's shop and raise this Supercabby. What was the purpose [?][?][?]
We also use him when we're on holiday and have found him nothing but pleasant, cheerful and friendly.
It's the same everywhere, some places/people/services are more pleasing than others, so you go where suits you.
Confused.com
-
I confess to being confused also supacabby.
Is it your intention to carry out similar exercises in various establishments in Calis.
-
The purpose was exactly as I explained in my post. I had read about this place & wanted to make my own decision as there were both positive & negative posts (I had just been to the cash-point which actually jogged my memory), the same as I have done with the various restaurants in Calis & Fethiye since moving here if you read any of my latest reviews.
I wondered what reaction I would get from someone described as creepy, pushy & rude yet by others as being ok to deal with, the answer to that is in my post above.
When I next need some water or a gas bottle delivering I'll give the Ces a try as I was treated perfectly well & his prices are better than some others.
Toky: The topic is 2 years old but I hadn't read it until sometime recently when I used the search facility to do my research as to where I might get some things delivered from due to my current water supplier putting his prices up compared to others I'd heard of.
Highlander: What do you mean by "similar exercises"? If you mean trying out various places to gauge service levels & costs then very much so. My current 8 month trip to Calis is being used as a guide to the cost of living & quality of life here with a view to a permanent early retirement move, a fact that is well documented on this forum.
-
Think you should have based your outcome on the service, quality, and price you were offerd rather than a man's reaction to being challanged about a 2 year old issue that had nothing to do with what you'd gone in for! Sorry, I just think its arrogance IMHO
-
"When I next need some water or a gas bottle delivering I'll give the Ces a try as I was treated perfectly well & his prices are better than some others"
That was the basis of my choice to give the Ces a try next time I'm in need of that type of shopping, if you find that arrogance then so be it, I respect your opinion.
-
In fairness it is the same guy as two years ago and people should indeed go and make their own minds up on people/places and the like. I found that to be the only way to live in Calis. If you believe everyone's stories about everything you'd have nowhere to shop and no friends over there.
-
After the delivery incident we did not go back. We moved on, why use a place where you have had a bad experience. As I read it, the staff are still the same, so no reason to go back . In fact, it still makes me shudder when I think back to these guys pushing into my livingroom demanding money.
However, it's personal choice where anyone wants to shop. If you like this place, it's fine with me. I really care now how great a shop is that I will never use again. It's history now. We have moved on and found some really good markets local to our Villa. In fact, can throughly recommend the two markets either side of Ibrahim Gul Cadesi just near the Taxi Rank and the Palms Restaurant. Really good markets and nice people.
Incidentally, Scunner, mine was no "story" it was fact.
-
My point isn't about fact or story - my point is that people should be allowed to make their own mind up if they choose to. To me it appears to be a rip off and I wouldn't go out of my way to use them but Supacabby seems to be being attacked for deciding to go and find out for himself how they treat him and deal with him.

I have absolutely no problem with that - it makes perfect sense. What I am struggling with is why you felt the need to show the person in question a topic from CBF. Surely you could have gauged the level of service etc by merely using the shop.
Whilst scunner agrees, I somehow cannot see him walking into a shop brandishing an extract from cbf. I maybe wrong of course.
-
No but when it has been a topic about someone I know, who I also know does not visit CBF, I have contacted them to tell them they are being "discussed". I wouldn't print off a page from CBF and go show a stranger, if that answers your question.
-
supacabby - have you been to Bostans for a coffee. ;).

Think you missed the point here Scunner. Absolutely no attack on Supercabby, (I've enjoyed reading about his transition to Calis), just a query on why he felt the need to challange the guy over this issue, when the reason for the visit was unrelated. quote:

.
-
Well maybe Supacabby is the best person to answer that. I certainly wouldn't like to be called arrogant though, so I don't think I have missed any point...
-
We use CES and have always had super service from Ramazan and his nephew. Being called Darling doesn't bother me as I get called all sorts of endearments in the markets. Our logs, water ect are always brought to the house/garden never found him creepy just friendly.
-
My visit was as a direct result of reading about the Ces market here on CBF (having collected a price list some time ago when passing) + due to the fact they offer a delivery service as I'm not bothering with a car for this trip + I need a new water bottle sometime soon + being at the cashpoint jogged my memory. I pass 2 markets between my home & town almost daily (those between Bim & Azda), have yet to venture into either of them.
Scunner & Jacqui took my post the way it was intended, my own personal research to gauge the service level offered. You didn't see me disagreeing with Jacqui, she had her own experience & wrote about it accordingly, I did not try to change anyones mind, simply offered my experience of the shop.
Toky: You used the word arrogance, I took that as a personal attack. If you feel my post contained arrogance, or that I am an arrogant person after writing about a personal experience, you are entitled to that opinion, you did not see me launching a personal attack in return, that is not my nature.
Highlander: Bostans serves lovely coffee, Carol, Recep, Billy & the other staff there are all very nice, the exception being the guy behind the bar who whilst always being polite has been a little "sullen" at times but I think that's him in general & nothing personal to me. In fact I am going to Bostans tonight for their wild boar roast evening after being invited by Carol last week.
Highlander: I showed him the topic from CBF because:- It was how I was 1st made aware of this market (thanks CBF for helping as normal with my research), when I went to pay for my goods his laptop was on Fethiye Trip Advisors page which started a conversation about forums (I'm a user there also as Frances-Jayne/Jacqui knows) so I showed him the CBF homepage, did a search for Ces Market which brought up this topic page then explained the good & bad comments he had received. Had I been met with disdain & arrogance then I would have reported this back to the forum accordingly.
I always mention CBF if that is where I 1st hear about an establishment I visit, my conversations with the owners of The Winehouse/Bati Cafe/Meeting Point etc. etc. all included mention of CBF. I think this has a positive benefit for the forum users in general (might even help to keep standards up if the owners know they are being read about by so many on here) & surely we are all here to learn about/discuss/enjoy the wonderful area that is Calis & surrounding districts, if not why bother to log on in the 1st place? I've said it before & happy to repeat it, CBF has been invaluable to me in being a tool of my research, without CBF (& my wonderful Calis resident friend Janet who I've known for 6 years) I doubt very much if I would have been enjoying my 8 month trip in this region, it may well have been my other option of Poros in the Greek islands.
Scunner: May I ask this please Keith. I use the search facility to try to stop making new topics about anything I can add to the forum, normally using the 1st topic that contains anything relevant to my post or 1 with a suitable heading, is this correct or should I start a new topic every time I wish to add an experience such as this? The search facility is encouraged by you & I thought forum etiquette was not to flood the system with lots of topics about the same subjects, please enlighten me if I'm wrong with this.
Edited due to typo.

Sometimes its just helpful to point things out to establishments, for example on Thursday I witnessed Supercabby nicely telling staff at Bati bar that the cappuccino was very weak, they checked machine and it wasn't set up right.
Once sorted the cappuccino was very good.
Well done for handling it like you did, I like many others, just wouldnt have had coffee there again and they would have lost out!
-
I used Ces market when I first moved here and was always happy with their service - usually for water or firewood. I now use the guy who services my scooter for the water - just because he knows me well and brings it quickly and is a bit closer than Ces and again with the wood - I now use a man in Tasyaka - who is cheaper. Nothing wrong with the service or the staff in Ces I have just found other places that provide what I want quicker and cheaper.
-
Supercabby, your explanation of how you came about showing the guy this topic is much clearer now. My original post stated that I couldn't imagine the scenario of how you got from going there to check out the service, to this. You've explained that now.
If you felt "attacked" I apologise, it's not my nature, but my vision (without knowing the full circumstances) was that of an act of arrogance and nothing to do with the purpose of your visit to the shop. I retract that as it was offensive to you, and I do enjoy your postings (honest lol)

As every one else has said everyone is entitled to their own opinion, where they want to shop eat etc.
Mark I applaud you for doing this and that is not because I am "a fan of this shop". I too often mention the forum during my trips to Calis in many establishments, as I am often on my own I find it is often a good way to strike up conversation with bar owners shop owners etc people in general.
I think it is a good thing the brother's were shown this thread as they have said they had no idea calling people darling could be upsetting to some people and are genuinely upset, surely it can only be a good thing that they have a chance to put things right and learn from it.
As I said before my experience with them has always been very positive and they have been nothing but kind welcoming and helpful to me and my family :)

Posts should be made where the writer thinks is the right place - if the topic is still relevant (perhaps not current) then there is no reason not to post in it. Where it gets silly is people replying to a post from years ago where the entire situation has changed nowadays and the point added is therefore totally irrelevant to the original topic. Not as silly as people posting in the banks forum asking how hot it will be in October of course.
-
Well done Mark for pointing out to these guys what an inconsistant service can do to their buisness, once these critism on this forum have been pointed out i will bet it wont be tried again.
Seven years ago whilst having a drink with Scunner iwas overcharged for drinks(again ) ,Scunner nicely pointed out the error of his ways and he appologised,if he hadnt would so many of you thought that Theo and the bus stop was so good ?
-
Toky: Apology accepted, next time I will make sure I post the conversation in full, just don't tell Keith as he pays for the bandwidth!
Kayakebab: Perfect example of how a polite request can inform a host there is something wrong & the 2nd coffee served in the correct manner was spot on, thank you for your kind words. (Bet he checks the coffee machine on a regular basis now, frothy water isn't that nice lol).
Scunner: Thanks for confirming my original thoughts, please feel free to tell me if my etiquette on CBF isn't as expected, it is not my nature to upset anyone, life is too short for that!
-
It's generally not about rules, it's about interpretation on here. For example, Jacqui appeared a little offended that I called her facts a story and that wasn't my intention - I have met Jacqui and I'm sure she would never make up a story just to cause harm to a business or person - and I agreed on page 1 that the story (see, story - it is a story and that doesn't make it fiction at all) was enough for me not to want to give them my business. Actually I have never used the place (for no reason other than it never happened) and now I still probably wouldn't.
I am making two points which I realise are almost contradictory to each other. Firstly, that people should not take a story as being fact just because someone told you or you overheard it. "Don't use his bar he...blah...blah...blah" and "yes he has been ripping people off for years..." - honestly, if you live there you'll end up with nowhere to drink and if you fall out with people because people you know have fallen out with them you'll be all alone in no time :)
The contradictory point I would make is that enough people that you know tell your their opinion on a place, you don't need to go to make sure. This was the case with Kale Park - which we adored - enough people who's opinion we trust told us to forget it during our last holiday there, and we did.
-
Thanks Keith, appreciate you taking the time to reply.
