All through the winter myself and a couple of pals have been walking around Calis , along the creek (which the upside down bridge crosses ), and through the residential areas around the Huzurevi. Sometimes I have gone alone and felt perfectly safe. Recently I went out to walk a circuit around the creek with my much fitter and FAR more attractive , young , slim ,blonde step daughter . As she is in serious marathon training she took off at a run while I power walked .I have done this so many times and it is s built up area where I often meet like minded souls in the morning.
I have read with some distress the incidents of ladies walking home on their own late at night and being followed (and worse), and thought , silly girls what the hell do they expect walking alone in the dark ?.
HOWEVER
Imagine my distress when at 9 am, in broad daylight, right in front of some villas on the Calsi side of the creek, a young chap passes me on a scooter ( cream colour did not get the reg) ,turns back gets off the scooter ( I am thinking he is a worker looking for one of the houses I am passing ) runs up beside me and makes a grab at my top. My reaction was to make a lot of noise which sent him back to his bike and thankfully there were other people approaching in the distance He drove off but not without turning the bike around again and giving me a flash ! I was SO fortunate that my step daughter chose that moment hove into view and we were able to walk home together.
It shook me up a bit and I have only been out once since but lost my nerve at following my usual routes choosing to stick closely to main roads very close to my house and carrying a pair of hand weights which could do some damage if anything were to happen again. On telling a good friend of my 'incident' , she told me that there have been a couple of incidents on the wide road which runs from Cafe Inn down to the Aquapark, both to women who were not alone, one was even with her husband, and a guy "goosed" her as he passed on his bike.It is shame I have to tell you this but I now dont feel so safe and what I really cannot get over is why me ??? I am an overweight ( trying to lose it , hence the walking ),& 50 something .
Girls/ Ladies please be careful.
-
Tiff, as I was reading your post I cant help but wonder, how many more this has happened to,meaning those that have not got access to this forum, or those who have chosen to not do anything, I cant help but feel the situation is not taken seriously enough, its ok saying carry a spray etc, but its just not good enough,I know it can happen anywhere, but if it were here, there would be a strong police presence in the area,it saddens me to think yourself and others buy into the dream of a place in the sun, only to end up carrying sprays and putting bars on your windows, how sad is that.
oh and on a lighter note, how did the bloke on the bike manage to "GOOSE" the lady on the way past, must mean something different in your neck of the woods, ;)
-
Laffa, I think it means bum pinching. :-\ not our goosing.
-
I must agree with Laffa on this one. I remember about 5 years ago posting on here after we had a break in at our place. It happened at a time when the chief of police was having a drink in the Ernur hotel. Following the incident, he started a police patrol in the area and they went on to catch the people involved and sent them to prison. I remember at the time thinking how good this reaction was and how it sent a the right message to tourists as well as the criminals.
Maybe its about time someone re-introduced those evenings where local officials came to meet the residents and listened to concerns like this one. It really does need sorting out before we have a castatrophe.
-
how awful what a terrible experience :(
hope you you get back running soon :)
:o goosing scouse version can't be printed:D

Hi I had my mobile phone stolen on monday night outside my house on the main calis road, after the guy had groped me at the park near cok supermarket. Two guys were hanging around one of them walked off, my friends walked to their apartment not far from where i live the other walked the same way as my friends it looked like he was following them so i watched them walk to the gate of their apartment and started to come home, the guy who had started to follow them saw i was watching and came around the back of the park and approached me thhe groped me, and he would not go away i did not want to go into my house alone in case he followed i took my phone out to phone my husband and he grabbed it and ran off. There seems to be an increase in this behaviour, arount the area. I have always felt safe in calis however things are changing for the worse I fear.
-
Heard from two girls ( both in their forties )who were staying at the Pelin, they had someone who tried it on groping and following them. It quite upset them, then he went past and hid near the reed beds by the mainroad bridges then jumped out and asked for sex. It also made them angry and I think the next one along would have had a right bashing with their handbags.
-
i think someone should ask the police to patrol this road at night. This is becomming very worrying!!!!
-
It's disappointing to read an increased number of reports of these sexually motivated approaches, they can really blight the whole holiday. Most of them seem, and I mean this most respectfully to those approached, a bit "carry on" and carried out by quite pathetic individuals. Jumping out of reed beds and asking for sex? How successful is that going to be? Once again I am sure it is extremely scary for the ladies involved. I have a feeling, based on nothing at all, that this could be down to just one or two prolific goosers (Southern meaning Moe lol)
In that case, all you need is a brave lady, two or three blokes waiting close by and two or three baseball bats.
-
I wonder how long they have to sit around in the reed beds waiting for a victim! Do you think they take a backgammon board in there with them to while away the time?

well i haven't been able to get it since the government banned it soooo long ago
thanks kanga... got that one :D yep they certainly deserve a bit of that!!
-
That is a horrible and scary thing to happen. It's nothing new, it's been going on in Calis for years & it's only a matter of time before it's something more than a 'grope'. It does put you off going out alone and crikey if you can't go walking in the morning without worrying what's the point in anything at all. It's great that this is spoken about on this forum & gets the word out to everyone. I hope their &*lls drop off.
-
0k lets do something positive.
We are looking for three different men as far as I can see,
1. dark skinned man with a limp whom I have seen in the area, known for making rude suggestions to women and following them around
2. 20 year old gypsy who has been jumping out on women and assaulting them
3. man with cream scooter who has been assaulting women.
if we can refer to these as 1,2,and 3, is there anything anyone can add to build up a picture of these guys, from what I can see they are all local to Calis.

-
i agree we must do something with these individuals. What would be the police action be if by acident you gave one of the them a good battering. I dont condon violence but having worked the doors a few years ago i will not let some low-lifes spoil my place in the sun and attack women
-
i dont think they would go to the police ,
can you picture it
"officer i was showing my p*nis to the lady asking for sex
and her husband knocked the sh*te out of me ,arrest him "
I think someone in calis should pop in and ask to see the
emniyet muduru (chief of police )
His name is OLCAY OZBARLAS ,he is a very nice man
and i am sure he will help
or pop and see ALI BOZKURT @ ALMINA HOTEL
he is a close friend of the chief of police
and the kaymakam (local governor)

Depends on how good looking she is !!
-
I find these "attacks" really worrying.
I have three teenage daughters, who dawdle along behind us when we are over in Calis, often late in the evening (it's not very cool to be seen with parents, and they can then chat about things they'd rather we didn't hear!). They often pop round the corner to the supermarket on their own. The more often we visit, the more confident they are becoming with the area. I'd hate them to read this thread, and realise that Calis may not be the nice place they think it is. Of course, they are aware of dangers, but who expects some perv to jump out of bushes and "grope" you (or worse) when you are on holiday?
As has already been asked, if one of these blokes were to get beat up by an angry dad/husband/brother, what would happen to the dad/husband/brother? Who's side would the law take?
-
I agree with you Julie I am really worried after reading this topic. I am really glad that we have been made aware of it, but I dont think I am going to walk anywhere on my own this Summer not even in the daytime.
What also concerns me is,is it just British women they are targeting, do we give off the wrong impression by wearing shorts and vest tops etc.
-
Wrong impression? when the bloke man a lunge at my boob I was dressed in shorts and a vest top and also had my baby in the pram, what am I supposed to do, go out in a boiler suit in 40 degrees I think not, lets not go down that route of thinking!
-
No I am not saying that at all, I know exactly how you would have felt as it happened to me at my complex in Calis in October last year, and took me until February this year to want to return to Turkey again ever.
All I was saying was do we hear of it happening to any Turkish women, I for one would not like it to be happening to us British women because we are foreighners in there country. No disrespect meant to you Janice at all.
-
I think you also have to remember that many of the people drawn come to work in the area come from parts of Turkey that are totally different to Calis. Totally uncommercial and unwesternised, where the sight of a female leg could be very exciting indeed. Suddenly seeing some of the bikini clad sights walking past I enjoyed seeing out the office window would be too much for some of them I'm sure ;)
I'm not trying to justify it all all, it can't be justified - but as Karennina points out, there is something about holidaymakers that they prefer...
-
And while I'm on dangerous ground, I can report that I have been told several times that British girls are considered "easy" by many of the barmen and waiters in town. True or otherwise, a village boy new in resort, possibly with little or no education, may misunderstand that message.
-
I understand what you are saying Keith, but some of these women have been attacked whilst with their family members (babies and husbands!). Surely a woman out walking with her husband, no matter what she's wearing, does not appear to be an easy catch - she is obviously taken!! The same as a woman walking her child - she's hardly out looking for sex either, she has a baby to consider!!
I know things are much different in Turkey - the bloke who lives next door to our apartment appears to have a huge problem with my girls out sunbathing in their bikinis by the pool. The rest of the family speak, but he obviously dislikes us (he speaks to the other families who dont have teenage daughters.)
This problem of women being attacked needs to be addressed with the local police. Discussing what women are wearing and thereby making it look as if they deserve to be attacked doesn't make Calis look a very desirable holiday destination to first-timers (specially if they're reading this forum for information on the area).
-
i agree, can someone have a word with the police please? Why wait for the inevitable to happen!
-
Obviously not an easy catch Jules, there or in any country, which is why I feel that these individuals have a real misunderstanding of reality. Don't get me wrong but jumping out of reeds and asking for sex, or grabbing Janice's boob is not predatory behaviour, it's cowardly mixed up stupidity.
Like you, I know Turkish men who will look away if a woman in a bikini appears on a TV advert! These local pests are not typical. They need to learn that lesson and yes the police should be asked to address it. Maybe the bar and restaurant owners and workers could also help, it's them who will lose out if this sort of activity escalates.
-
Just think this sort of "cowardly mixed up stupidity" must be so terrifying for the women involved.
Myself and my 16 year old daughter were jammed in a lane and cornered by a large van last year (late at night, very close to our apartment, hubby closeby in the supermarket). Thankfully, neither of us were touched and we managed to get away - but we were scared stiff (me, in particular, as I felt the obvious need to protect my daughter).
I made the stupid mistake of not going to the police (the usual language barrier thing). Unfortunately, I have had to learn my lesson the hard way. I'll never stay in our gorgeous apartment on my own (just wouldn't feel safe without people around me) and I wouldn't even consider walking anywhere on my own in the evening. It's a real shame - but, because of this thread, I am more concerned for my girls (and other unsuspecting females).
British women on holiday (or living in the area) just don't deserve to be treated like this. Tourist areas want (and need) the custom from foreign travellers, not this sort of publicity. And, to be fair, the majority of Turkish people are fantastic - that's why so many of us want to buy in this beautiful country.
Let's just hope these low life scumbags are caught very soon, before any more serious harm is done.
-
Jules I am doing my very best to put across that I do appreciate that it is most definitely extremely terrifying for the women involved. The point I am trying to make is that I don't believe this is a widespread problem, more that it is the activities of a persistent but small group of pests.
One of the biggest frustrations I had through living in Turkey was seeing things that were quite obviously wrong and very negative, knowing it would take no time to sort out, yet conceding that it probably would never happen.
-
Keith, I apologise if this looked like I was digging at you. I most certainly was not :)
I can understand the frustrations you must have felt living there, and watching things happening that could so easily have been resolved.
Lets just hope this all gets sorted soon, and that no-one else gets hurt.
-
Julesbob0303
I agree with Julesbob303's hopes that these people are caught soon, but even more so with Kieth's suggestion that these events should be reported to the Police - and in my opinion straight away.
Without an immediate report to the Police and the information posted on this topic being made available to them it is Certain that no action will be taken by them until After the next ( and reported ) event. Too late for the victim.

one tip is if you have you mobile phone take a pic of the offender to give to the police (that's if you are able to do so)
-
You will probably get arrested for having p0rnagraphic pictures on your phone:D
-
after all the talking has anyone reported it yet. I urge all cbf members who live out there to act now before this becomes the norm. I certainly wont hesitate when i am out there next to report this and once me double hernia operation has calmed down god help any Gypsy who comes near my family and fellow ex-pats
-
It has absolutely nothing to do with the way anyone is dressed - it's the perception scum like this have of us - non Turkish therefore easy game. Someone on a bike attacked me 15 years ago in Fethiye - at 6pm, broad daylight, wearing a pefectly normal work type skirt & blouse. Fortunately, a lone workman heard me & came to my aid. The general concensus amongst my husband's family was that 'it must have been someone not from Fethiye'. I can't believe all these acts are carried out by poor sex-starved young men from the East.
I think this is a major problem but one that will no doubt be swept under the carpet.
-
i was groped whilst watching the calis carnival concert i was with 2 couples(my husband was on his way over to calis he had to come later than me)dressed in jeans and a top no flesh on display .
this man stood behind me blew up and down my back (i thought it was someone with a fan or something didn't think anything about it ) just as i was having a bit of a dance with my friends this dirty old pervert grabbed my backside not a pinch but a real proper feel i was gobsmacked i didn't have a chance to do anything he scarpered i shouted out loud the people around heard and he just did one .
there were hundreds of people around if they can do it there they can do it anywhere .would he have done it if my hubby was there i dont think so
-
Iv'e just left a customers house,a young lady, and she's just returned from two weeks in Marmaris. She said blokes were trying to grab her boobs, her backside, and one put his hand up her skirt. She said she hit him so hard he went flat on his back, banged his head on the floor, and ran off crying. She said all the people outside the bar were clapping and cheering. But she said there is no way she or her three friends would return to Turkey.
Time for action.???
-
very,very worrying!!!!!
-
What is the law on having pepper spray on your person in Turkey?
-
You are allowed to buy it, carry it, and use it. However, as is possibly the case in the UK, you may find yourself in trouble if using it causes serious damage to the sprayed creep, such as sight problems (should they choose to pursue it). That is my understanding from the Police chief, don't shoot the messenger...
-
I am sorry to say to all the women on the forum, but I agree with Keith, basically the "low lifes" in Turkey not the nice people but the low lifers, think they can treat British women as they like, it does have something to do with the way we are dressed, they think we are "easy pickings" in the same way that they think it is ok to burgler are apartments, "our homes in the sun!" they think this is fine because we are all so "loaded" and we can afford it. The way we dress does come into the equation because Turkish women do not wear our type of clothing, and as Keith said some of the men just can not handle it.
I was attacked at my "place in the sun" in October last year and I never thought i would recover from it because of the nature of the attack, if any one wants the details please feel free to email me, but do not want to post it on an open forum as I still find it to traumatic to relieve it.
I tried to tell me myself it was ok, but truth is it;s not if I could sell my place in the sun and get a new place I would no doubt what so ever. Basically because laying in the sun was such a lovely experience for me, and I have tried but I do not feel the same laying at my pool without another soul about.
And yes these people need to be caught, will they be I do not think so it is a foreighner's word against some b##### pervet.
-
I don't think it is so much the way we dress as the actions of some of the holiday makers who are going to Turkey.
Young girls and older women throwing themselves at anything with a pulse. Women having sex with waiters in toilets while the husband sits unknowingly at the bar chatting to the staff who are probably all laughing at him. Mothers and daughters on the pull together.
I have even heard of one bar in Hisaronu that has a back room with a bed.
I would imagine the stories are well emboidered by the waiters at the end of the season and "some" becomes "all" in the perverts mind. They want some action too.
Unfortunately it is the innocent who are being hurt by this.
-
Well, that was exactly the point I was making.
No you can't blame those targeted, not at all, but it is possible to understand where the mentality of the aggressor started to become detached from reality. I can only hope that the many Turkish people who read CBF, with direct access to the ear of the influential in Fethiye, take this dangerous level of worry to them, and insist SOMETHING is done.

I could add so much more to that list, but I won't :D

Not from experience!!!!!!!!!!
-
Karennina I can't agree that these attacks are due to style of dress. In my last post I said that when this happened to me I was dressed in a fairly conservative skirt & blouse. It's the fact that we are foreign and therefore considered easy game by some. I agree that the behaviour of some makes female holiday makers could feed this perception but there wasn't much of that kind of behaviour years ago and yet these attacks still happened.
I'm sure scum like this would quite fancy having a pop at a Turkish girl, however, they know what the consequences would be if they did.
It's a power thing with a good belt of misogyony mixed in.

:D Me too, but I doubt very much that anything will be done about this carry on its happened in the past and been reported,to no avail.
-
How many of these attacks have been reported?
-
Fellas, look after yur girls, and if some slimeball does anything untoward, twat him,the same as we would back home. The next lemon cologne seller that tries to spray his wares on my girlfriend and rub it in will see how far them large bottles can be administered in an unconventional manner of the sphincter muscle variety! No thanks means NO THANKS!
-
I think we need to keep things in perspective.
It is NOT the case that all Turks are out to take advantage of females from the UK, & women should not be afraid to wear clothes appropriate to being in a hot holiday environment.
Rather, it is that, in common with other areas, world-wide, unfortunately, we have a few perverts pestering women & thinking they can get away with it.
I would suggest that, in the absence of the appropriate police intervention, that women carry Mace pepper spray & be prepared to use it if need be.
Also, if someone would act as a "decoy" & then some likely lads "sorted out" the perv/s it would send out a message to the low-lifes that they could get hurt while pestering women & hopefully this would deter them from their "activities".
This is a situation that should be sorted out by the authorities but if they won't then..........
-
I am going to Calis in 3 weeks with my pretty blonde wife, and my 17 & 14 year old daughters. I can assure you if any of this behaviour goes on I WILL be handing out good old fashioned British justice. I was in Dalyan last year and Yalikavak 2 years ago and never encountered anything like this.
-
Let's keep this in perspective, I lived in Calis for 5 years and never once saw anything like this.
-
I feel this topic is getting a little out of hand, a few members are making Calis sound like a no-go area, whereas nothing could be further from the truth, yeah ok some Turks find English Girls/Women fascinating and stare, whistle or try to chat them up, doesn`t that happen in England ?
I`ll reiterate what Scunner has said, I lived in/visited Calis for five years and not once did I see an English woman attacked by a Turk.
-
I have not seen a woman attacked in Scotland but it does not mean it doesn't happen.
However as you say keep it in perspective but be aware that these things happen, like in any other country.
-
Nobody is saying it doesn't happen Heather. Just that it is rare, possibly not obvious from reading this topic in isolation. The important thing is to make people aware that it is not unheard of. I was very much switched on to the sound of a moped coming along behind me after hearing of attempted bag snatches. The very sound alerted me without thinking. If this topic has worried someone about their decision to visit Calis and Fethiye then it is right to explain the reality. More importantly, if it has alerted one person or family to be a little more vigilant, then we did our job :)
-
It does happen in Scotland but the police take a serious view of it and try to do something about it unlike the police in Calis seem to be doing. If it was a tourist doing the same to a Turkish woman I wonder what would happen.
-
More importantly, if it has alerted one person or family to be a little more vigilant, then we did our job
Agreed. :D

And how many were reported to the police? They can't do anything if nobody tells them there is a problem.
-
Scunner, I agree...
>We need to keep this in perspective
>We also ALL need to report this to the police ASAP when it happens, even if they don't take it seriously.
If they start to get more and more reports they will have to take it seriously. Especially if tourists start to avoid Calis then the local business owners will start to apply pressure to the authorities.
This sort of thing can happen anywhere but what worries me more is if the police don't take it seriously. My partner has two teenage daughters and I am now a little worried about taking them out there:-\ but as I said you do need to keep it all in perspective.
-
These have been my my thoughts whilst reading the topic... some people have asked the question... So what are the police doing about it? But do they even know?? If the incidents haven't been reported to the police then they cannot act. I will try to go to the police in Gunlukbasi and ask them.
-
thank you.much appreciated.

I have just got back from speaking to the police about the incidents.
They did not know about them as they haven't been reported. They will put more patrols in the area and have asked that if anything happens to anyone they need to call 155 and the police will come to the location immediately. They have also said that however distressing the situation is, they need descriptions and registration numbers of vehicles involved. Also a report to the police needs to be made.
They were genuinely concerned about what has happened and want to catch the man or men that are doing this, but they need the reports, phone calls, descriptions etc to help them.
-
Lets hope they keep an eye on things. I will be going out there with my two 16yr old daughters and I have to say that if I hadn't already booked, I wouldn't. Some of the stories are a little scary.

-
well done sunnyd for acting on this. but angry as i am about this happening in my place in the sun this happened only yesterday in England to a young lady up North in broad daylight. As everyone has said stay together and keep your eyes peeled and get taxis home at night. But enjoy your holidays.
-
There is not much to worry about if you are vigilant. If there were forums for resorts in Spain, France etc., and you read them, you probably wouldn't go there either. Important thing is to realise that things CAN happen wherever you go on holiday, and at least you know not to walk around in a dream.
-
Are these the same police we should report incidents to who came to a meeting a year or so ago at the Orient Express?
The bone of contention then was the number of high speed scooter riders whizzing up and down the prom.
The police spokesman said they did not have the manpower to patrol the prom regularly. Their advice was to photograph the offenders along with the offenders number plate: then the police would take action.
For the next two or three days two motor-cycle police, on their posh new black high power bikes, parked on the entrance to the prom near the bridge.
They happily waved to many of the scooter riders driving on to the prom, ( none wearing crash helmets ) and though I sat and watched for a full 2 hours, did not stop a single one of them. I had photos of the Police actually waving to the offenders! These were passed on to the police. Nothing happened.

-
Well done SunnyD, lets hope this will set the ball rolling for some positive action.
-
As opposed to the negative responses where people would rather whinge about what didn't happen before than at least try and see a positive response. Well done sunnyd for making the effort to try and help. The choice is up to each individual. Report (or help someone report) an incident, so the police can have something to work on, or not bother because you think they won't do anything anyway.
-
A big thank you to sunnyd for making the effort. I really hope people will now start to report this incidents.
-
I say thankyou to Nikki too, now that the police are aware the very least anyone can do is report anything that happens, no good moaning about incidents if you are not going to do anything about it.
I am stopping in the area at the moment and it does make you kind of nervous of walking alone I have to say but rest assured if I see anything i will report it.....thats after i have ruined his sex life for ever....given the chance!!!
Seriously though, it would not stoop me coming to Calis as I love it but something does need doing about it.
Again thanks to Nikki.

i have been going to Calis for the last 16 years and have often walked home alone without any problems, maybe the odd toot from the white lada drivers. It does make me sad and angry though that there is a few gits out there targeting woman and i hope they get caught and get the punishment they deserve.
i just arrived home from Calis early this morning and what did give me the heebie jeebies this year was the men who go out (look as though they are alone) and dance all night but then try and shimmy there way in. On a night out in Hisaronu with my turkish friend one come over to us and my friend got really angry and shouted at him to p*** off, he then persisted on coming to our table and dancing next to my mum and I. Couples were even leaving the dance floor because he was so irritating.
-
Lorna.f you just reminded me about a time when I use to work as a doorman on a large night club in Middlesbrough there was a guy in his forties who use to go up to girls dancing together and try to squeeze past them even though there was plenty of room all around them, he looked like a medallion man open necked shirt just below his chest long hair and leather trousers (absolutely ridiculous) a couple of girls complained about him so we thought we would set him up, one of the doormen knew a stripper who would come in regular so we got her to dance in front of him very provocatively and start to take her clothes of I have never seen a man run so quickly in my life needles to say he never tried to come back in LOL :D
-
I have just been in Calis, returned home early this morning. We noticed that there is more police presence than has been in the last 4 years that we have been.
-
thanks sunnyd i did not even know the number to dial for the police
-
I'd like to thank everyone who has made a contribution tot his topic. If i had a pound/lira for every young (and sometimes not so young) lady ive seen walking alone at night, i'd be very rich by now.
I think these forums are a god send for opening peoples eyes. I understand how it can be off-putting to read but like it has already been said, it happens everywhere and its just a reminder to keep your wits about you.
1. don't do anything you wouldn't do at home- catch a cab and stay with your friends.
2. If your out and about during the day, be aware! If you hear a bike coming slowly behind you, take a look- it may be nothing but if it is you're not likely to get a description etc if they've caught you unawares and a glance takes only a second.
Calis is such a lovely place that it's easy to feel comfortable being out and about alone (i must admit i love it, i feel too uncomfortable here in the UK to go out and about alone). It's also easy to make yourself vunerable without realising it.
I hope they catch these guys and they get what we all feel they deserve

I find it ever so slightly irritating to read that people who have booked to holiday in Calis may not have if they had read this forum first. The alternative is of course that there wasn't a forum and they went there blissfully unaware of the need to be vigilant.
Nobody is suggesting that this is common, and more importantly, nobody is suggesting you need take any more care of yourself than you would in your home town. My topic of about a year ago comes to mind. Perfectly sensible people leave the UK and total airheads arrive in Calis. The sort who walk up the middle of a main street that I could drive right up behind and they still had no idea.
Just don't forget your common sense and don't think because it's sunny that cars don't hurt and people all wave and wish you well :)

People reading this should keep in mind that the population of Calis is that of a fairly small village, in fact a better comparison would be to take just a small area of any town or city in the UK that attracts large numbers of holiday makers, for instance the central area of Blackpool, Brighton, Torquay etc. Now imagine that in any one of these areas you had an active forum of 6,000+ members watching and reporting on every move that went on in that community. I guarantee that the picture you would build up of any of these places would be that of a recent day Tehran rather than Torquay. Our community in Calis is really under a microscope and a microscope can make even the most beautiful thing look ugly or scary.
Calis is changing, it's a very different place from the deserted backwater we stumbled across on a grey day in November 8 years ago, but it's still a great place.

I got a bit worried after reading the forum, but it's like any holiday town that gets busy with tourists, there's going to be a few chancers. I personally can't wait for the 17th July, getting off the plane and feeling the turkish sun on my face. I live just outside Blackpool and know what can happen, but will just take care and keep an eye on my missus and kids. But if I do come across one of these pervs they'll be singing soprano for a week.
