I always used to buy bags from the guy just up from Dikman's in Fethiye. He had really good leather fakes not the cheap ones from the market. I bought a Prada fake from him last year for £90.00 that was impossible to tell from the real thing.
This year I was sad to see he had gone. I was amazed when I tried the new bag shop opposite Ramadan and they wanted £280.00 for a similar fake Prada and then when I went into Paspatur and tried the bag shop they wanted between £280 and £390.00 for their bags. I had been in Istanbul earlier in the week and they were cheaper
there. Does anyone know where the guy from Fethiye has moved too?
Just now it's actually a better bargain for bags in U.K. where you can get the real thing.
Two good sales just started on the net are Net-a-Porter and Mulberry.
Up to 50% off designer clothes shoes and bags. Hurry, they go fast.
-
Do you mean Sinbad ? (next to Megri ?) he has moved to the top road of Paspatur. He always has been expensive - but good quality. We visited Kalkan last year and found the same good quality designs a LOT cheaper than we could buy them in Fethiye. Came home with a beautiful 'Hermes' for £80 - leather and workmanship are superb. Just wondering what I NEED this trip !!!
-
The shop in Fethiye opposite Fiori- 'Maya' has been expensive for a few years now but the quality and workmanship is far superior to anything I've seen. I have bought a few bags from them over the last few years but now the prices are silly !I wouldnt want to be paying £300 for a copy particularly as everyone I know, know I go to Turkey- the land of copies!

Hi Pookie,
No, it was the small street that runs at the
back of the main street where Carrefour is. The owner was a
guy with a beard, he sold bags, belts wallets etc., There is
now a clothes shop where he was. His bags were very good
quality and exception value.
O.K. is Kalkan a big place? what's there? I need an excuse to
get my husband to go there, now I know where the cheap
bags are I cannot resist.
Also Cavfan I looked in Maya and he quoted me £480.00 for fake
Jimmy Choo bag.
However, when I told him the bag I had with me, a genuine Chloe( which
I bought in New York at the Chloe Shop in the Outlet Village)
had been cheaper to buy than his fake Jimmy Choo, he told me it was a
fake..... Sour grapes and not good customer relations.
-
I have bought bags from the Maya shop before but when I was there this time it said Maya and Neptune leather. Is this the same shop?

Ohhh Jacqui --- your poor husband is in for a shock ! Kalkan is about an hours drive from Fethiye. Traditionally a fishing port that has grown beyond recognition. But.....lovely properties,. beautiful harbour and even more beautiful shops ! lovely silver in particular. AND the home of our favourite restaurant (The Aubergine). Only 20 minutes on from Patara beach - go on, make a day of it !!!
-
Pehaps fakes are the new trendy gear ,sod the originals where,s the roslex watch,Calvin
-
You really must go to Kalkan if you haven't already been there. It's beautiful, with lovely restaurants and shops. Very hilly, but well worth a visit for a day or two. :)
We stayed in a villa up in the mountains for a week on our first visit to Turkey. The views were outstanding - I could have stayed there for ever. :)
-
Yes Calvin, Fakes have always been trendy, but cheap. The Rolexes in Robson Greens shop in Paspatur are an absolute bargain compared with the fake designer bags in Maya.
Yes, reddevil it seems that the Neptune have taken over Maya. My husband tried on a leather jacket while I was looking at the bags. The guy told him it was £1,200!!!
O.K. Pookie you have twisted my arm in the name of shopping I will make a pilgramage to Kalkan, it's a sacrifice, but I will struggle to do it. Thanks for letting me know.
-
Try Josephs in Olu Deniz. He's on the main pedestrianised road with all the shops going to the beach. Heading to the beach go past the road with the craft stalls in and he's a few hundred mts on the right. My friends and I have been buying our fake bags there for years and he's always been a reasonable price, designs spot on and great quality.

Well looking at the photograph of you on the Beauty Tips section !!!!!!!

Re fake Rolexes. Directions to the watch shop, in Paspartur the road where Neptune Leather is on the opposite side there is a large shop that sells textiles and brassware on the opposite corner to this shop is a small watch shop it's call The Watch Gallery. The owner, Murat looks like the actor Robson Green, blonde hair blue eyes. Murat keeps the really good fakes in a box under the counter, just ask him.
Jacqui.
-
Does he keep them in a box under the counter because he doesn't really want to sell them????????:-\ like he might do if they were on show.

-
Probably does not want the Zabita to know he is selling Fake knock offs:D
-
No, the reason they are under the glass counter is he does not want them stolen, as all the other watches are out on show. The more expensive ones are in a box under the glass in the counter, you can see them. We have never bought them. I usually buy a £10 Dior or similiar to wear for the holiday, but we have seen plenty of people buying the more expensive ones. Murat gets out the latest magazines and shows people the pictures of the real things, he seems to keep up to date year by year. I can say the watches I have bought from him, are reliable and all are still going after 4 years. The most expensive one I bought was a Ceramic Louis Vuitton which was £30.00 that was last year and it's still keeping good time and looks very authentic.

Ah!!! not see through glass then.

Now now Baz, if you had watches valued up to thirty quid each, you'd want them to be secure :D
-
The handbags ought to be in a bl**dy safe then:D:D:D ;)

Jacqui
Have you tried asking any of the shopkeepers around where your man was ? They may well know where he has gone
-
I bet PC Plantpot is still lurking around somewhere......
-
Yes, I asked a couple of the shopkeepers but no one seems to know. One person said he had retired, however, he did not seem old enought to retire. I will try the shop at Olu Deniz and also shops at Kalkan. thanks to everyone for there advice. At least I now know about Kalkan, been looking at it on the net, definitely looks like it's worth a visit.

Catchphrase.;Down in the mouth.???
:)
-
I don't know much about the prices good or otherwise of fake designer bags but in Fethiye there is a nice bag shop called Funda on the oppisite side and end of the street with the new Kotton shop and those bags are extremely good quality.
-
Kalkan is god for handbag shops and if you have a bit more time go along to Kas another 20 mins on from Kalkan, lots of levey shops there and a beautiful drive.
-
My daughter had her bag stolen on a night out in Chester. Only her phone and ID in there (She'd spent up and doesn't take plastic with her on a night out in case she loses her bag !). Phoned the police to report the theft. Was asked if anything valuable taken. She said only her phone. Police asked about the bag. She said - only a D & G - Police said - well that must have cost alot! Daughter - oh no, I got it in Turkey its blag. Police warns her that this is an offence but on this occasion will overlook the offence.

The bags are only expensive if you pay their prices
Ron
-
I did not pay their prices by buying, but the question was "Why are the fake bags so expensive this year?". It's not a question of buying one, it's a question of why the price has risen.
I always look at the bags in Calis/Fethiye when we come over, I have bought lots of bags in the area, they have always been a good price. This time each shop with the better made fakes, even after haggling (I am a good haggler, I have to be in my job). were asking much higher prices this year i.e. bag that was £90.00 last year, cheapest price this year £150.00.
Some of these bag shops are asking up to £390.00 for fake bags.
I bought a genuine Chloe bag in the Outlet Village outside New York last year for $400 in their annual sale. The original price ticket on the bag was $1,200... Now that's what I call a bargain. So there is no way I am going to pay £150.00 for a fake.
-
:DJacqui - you seem to have a handbag problem !!:D:D
-
Confession time... It's shoes as well!!!!
-
Doesnt seem like a problem to me! you go Jacqui! Presume you went to Woodbury Common when in NYC- bargains galore!
-
What can I say Maria, Woodbury Common is a wonderful place... I am lucky enough to have been a few times, the bargains are unbelievable. In my humble opinion the best place for shoes especially the Jimmy Choo outlet, and bags. I actually got a real leather Calvin Klein bag for £15.00. on which the jeweller in Dickmen's Fethiye remarked to me, "That's a very expensive bag". Good job they have lockers for rent at Woodbury, as spending the whole day there you need somewhere to keep putting the carrier bags.
-
tell me about it,going to ny in august and tania's already booked us a day shopping(again) at woodbury common :(
-
Fakes are getting so expensive that I've been forced to start buying originals
-
Oooh I will head for Woodbury Common when I am a bridesmaid in New York next year!
-
I've heard of people buying 6 fake handbags for a tenner from the market!:D And they think they're a bargain![^]
Just shows what taste some people have!
As for the 'genuine fake genuine' bags - the sellers are tapping into people's snobbery. After all, it's only because people want to walk around with a Burberry/Mulberry/Chloe etc that they'll happily pay through the nose for one. Unless a certain bag is particularly beautiful I wouldn't buy one (fake or genuine) just because it had a designer label! I've heard of people who buy and wear fake designer bags/watches etc that they don't really rate! That sounds like snobbery at autistic level![:X]
And all of this applies to the genuine item too. Dior/LV etc wouldn't be able to charge up to £9,000 for a handbag unless they knew that a portion of their customers were challenged enough to pay that sort of money for a piece of leather (albeit good quality) that's been designed by a supposedly genius designer, and possibly had a young Chinese girl hand-stitch it together. If you took the price of ALL materials, and totted up the hours of work that go into putting it together I would say even the most expensive bag in the world could not possibly cost more than £100. Top whack. Unless it's studded with large diamonds!
And as for people wearing fake Rolex's etc.........I don't know why they bother. It's obvious to most people that it's a fake. Especially when a genuine Rolex is possibly worth more than their car is!:D
Having said all that I myself have bought a couple of fake handbags in Turkey, but I bought them because I liked the design. I didn't buy them for the label.
-
What Rubbish! Quote" I bought them because I liked the design " Could it be someone likes the design of a Rolex but can't afford the £5 grand for a real one?.......just like you and the bag you liked
-
You've made a good point, Tribelelder. I'm sure some people (myself included) would buy a fake if they genuinely liked the design, and it was good quality too. But I've seen fakes that look like they belong in a toy store - and plenty of people buy them just so they can walk around in 'designer' gear.
As for liking the design of Rolex's - I personally don't. I go by 'look' rather than label. But that isn't to say I don't like some designer goods. I do, and I buy them occasionally - the genuine ones. But only if I think they're worth the money.
I wouldn't buy a fake bag or watch just because it had a designer label attached to it. I buy things I LIKE. If I saw a handbag I liked in Primark I'd buy it - I have nothing to prove to anyone. Likewise, if I see a fake designer bag I like in Turkey I'll buy that too - but only because I LIKE it.
And although I'll buy genuine goods too I have to REALLY like the item to shell out thousands of pounds for it. Good job I'm not a slave to designer labels - I'd have to take up another paper-round!:P

sorry guys just caught up on this thread, Jackie, Woodbury common is amazing isnt ! I love it there, i take my suitcase with me so i dont have to lug all the shopping bags around with me, so much easier. Hoping to get out there in January. As for the bag prices, in Hisaronu these past couple of years ive thought the prices have gone up, and like you jackie im good at haggling, but this time around (i went in June) i didnt buy 1 single bag, because not many took my fancy, but they seemed very stubborn on moving on the prices. one guy was good, i was looking at 1 Jimmy Choo bag started off at £220 and i got him down to £30 but then changed my mind (which to be fair peed him right off) but at the last minute i thought ' i really dont NEED this'(im trying to be good!). My first year in turkey (10 years ago) I can honestly say i came back with 18 bags! I was a kid in a 'sweet' shop when i saw the bags. Like you jackie my problem is handbags, and shoes oh ok then and clothes! but anyway back to the subject, the guy i buy my bags from has always done me a good price, but he said the wholesalers in instanbul, their prices have increased which in turn means they have to increase, thats all i know folks! x
-
Just arrived back from eight days in New York... Got a Chloe bag and also Jimmy Choo Shoes at Woodbury Common. There are so many bargains.... For example in Quicksilver shop got a tee shirt for my son one for his girlfriend and then decided to get my son a hat as well ( original price on the hat was $29.00 ) Took the three items to the counter total bill was $13.00. Bought a trouser suit with matching blouse at the Kasper shop (don't miss this one, clothes are fab) suit was $79.00 saw the same one in Macy's for $210.00 I don't bother with a suitcase I just use the lockers for hire in Woodbury, just keep going back and filling one up.
Jacqui.

There's no way I'm going to read 5 pages on the subject of girly handbags so apologies if this has already been said. The reason fake handbags (and indeed anything else on the planet) are so expensive is that people pay the expensive prices being asked.
Economics works for women too :D
-
Leave us alone Keith we are now having girly chats about shopping...
-
I used to be a real sucker for the handbags until they started topping the hundred pound mark-too much for what is afterall a fake.
I went out to Turkey twice last year and twice again this year and haven't bought a single bag because any of the nice ones are over £200 which I reckon is just crazy!
When we were staying in Fethiye last month I didn't step foot in a bag shop...Hubby thought it was bliss- and then dragged me into Funda Watch where we bought a fake watch each LOL!
-
When people talk about genuine fakes there are such thing, I remember my brother being in the rag trade many years ago, he told me what would happen is, they would agree a design with a major company to supply so many thousand dresses, they would then purchase the material, negotiate a price with a factory to make them, the factory would always be able to make more with the material than they agreed. The left over were then sold to market traders etc as genuine fakes. I would'nt be surprised if this is still going on and the same with handbags. The chances are the fake handbag which is expensive is made in the same factory by the same people as the one that cost 10 times as much.
