I live here full time so usually do turkish grub as used to it now but my friend Lisa and her partner Sabri deserve a mention as their food and service is excellent
They do pies, pastries, cakes, grills, sarnis, chip buttys, bubble n squeak, plus all the usual other things and drinks, milkshakes, Efes Wine Spiits etc.
Its the cafe/bar before Scarletts in Calis
Try it out you will love it !!!
-

Lisa can't cook enough lemon meringue pies in a day to keep everyone happy !! I like the lemon cheesecake best - best of all though is bangers, onions, mash and onion gravy .....mmmmmm :)
-
The best doughnuts I have ever tasted....ever!!!!

Without doubt, her lemon cheesecake is a winner. THE best :)
-
We walked past pies and pastries to try scarlet bar, it looked empty but then so was scarlet bar. Was June a very quiet month for Chalis. Scarletts was a Very nice bar but quiet. The barmen did make us laugh trying to do a Tom Cruise tossing bottles , being flash, he dropped most of them.
-
Mmm cheesecake or pavlova...yum. But also nice for an informal meal in the evening. Sabri does a great mixed grill and the lamb chops are always lovely. Tried the curry pasties and friends recommend the mince & onion pies. The staff are friendly - the prices are competetive.Well worth a visit.
-
Lovely food ..........forget healthy eating and enjoy proper homemade choccy cake, crumbles and meringues in generous portions. :P
And Lisa and Agatha are lovely people too. I passed a quite a few pleasant hours there last week .
-
I have still yet to try this place, have been to Maria's as the kids like it there, have been to Kaya's tattoo place and saw it then, but i still have to eat there, i def will do, if open in December, i think the diet/healthy eating is abolished anyway, = christmas . REAL CHOC CAKE, that will do for me, lemon cheesecake, what a decision . lol x

Mmmmm, the choccie cake was gorgeous - the nicest I've ever had! It was all gooey (fudgey) on the outside and the cake very light.
The vegetarian quiche was also really nice (not that I'm a veggie - just fancied it!)
-
Must try it but for some reason I never seem to get passed Dawn Beach. Must be Eko's charm ;)
-
Ekko is gorgeous but Lisa's cakes are more gorgeous !!!:D Ha ha Luv u Ekko x 8)
-
I am going there tomorrow. Lemon cheesecake, here I come!
-
Woke up this morning the sun is shining and had an overwhelming longing for one of Liza's cooked breakfasts......... shame I'm in the UK!
-
I acquired a jar of Liza's home made lemon marmalade at the weekend. Got up this morning fresh bread......nice butter and opened the jar..... I'm tempted to say it was horrid so that she won't sell anymore and I can go back and get the rest of her stock but that wouldn't be fair....... it was perfect......not too sweet.....not too much peel and the flavour was the best I have ever tasted anywhere am almost tempted to have it for tea too - really can't wait for the pickled beetroot and onions to be ready for eating - is there no end to this lady's talents. Keep it up Liza....lemon meringue....lemon cheesecake....marmalade....... I'll be at the front of the queue :-)
-
Is Lisa's open during the day at this time of year????? I have a yearning for her lemon cheesecake
-
Me too Lynne. Bit far to travel though, cos I need to be in work tomorrow! :(
-
Life's full of tragedies ;) But, 'specially for you. If she is open I will make sure I REALLY enjoy it and will tell you all about it later, OK??
-

Wow, I AM impressed. -It doesn't come with a free dog, does it?
-
Oh No it started already - I was there today - only one slice of lemon meringue left so had the cheesecake and left meringue for my friend. Cheesecake stunning but as we were eating people arrived to buy some lemon marmalade and they had there eyes on the pickled onions too - I have it on good authority that some of those onions are going to the boot sale on Sunday so I'll be the woman sleeping in the car park to make sure I get my share before they all go.
-
Anne, you're right - Lynne is well and truly off my Christmas card list, lol. :D
Oh well, it wont be long till Easter and I can binge then!! :([xx(]:(
I hope there was some left for you Lynne, after kizkucuk & friend's visit. On second thoughts .............. :-\ :):D

Your bit was delicious : :)
-
As I'm a fairly new resident I managed to get on a Dolmus yesterday that didn't go the way I thought it would....... so got off in Calis just before the Pelin......and thought...well I'm here now may as well stop for a cuppa......... had the last chocolate mousse...... and what a mousse it was topped with white chocolate sauce......... the sound effects were a bit like the scene in When Harry Met Sally........ but it was exceptional - guess I've got all winter to work my wya through the menu.
-
Just a nice cold Efes and a chip butty for me please. :)
-
Nice chicken mayo & crispy bacon sandwich and home made pickled onions - Mmmmmmmmm
-
Many thanks SugaryBaba for your recommendation of PASTRIES AND PIES---Had the Lemon Meringue and my wife had the apple pie--Will be guided by other posts and sample the lemon cheesecake--Spoke to Lisa and I hope her business thrives here in Calis. As stated earlier it's near Scarlets Bar.
Cheers--Brian

We arrived in Calis 5am this morning already P & P are on our list of places to eat sounds yummmmmmmmy!
-
Visited Pies & Pastries tonight, Steak Pie, Chips & Peas smothered in gravy......mmmmmmmmmmmmm followed by Lemon Cheesecake & double portion of Ice Cream - absolutely surperb!!!!!! (Confessession - I had the cheescake & Ice Cream AGAIN!!)
-
Aah, -lemon cheesecake. Two portions? Quite understandable. Haven't yet tried the steak pie, if I am honest, it is fear stopping me from trying it. I am afraid of discovering yet another thing that will add to my inches.
-
Going to buy some more homemade jam and chutney to bring back with me again! MMMmmmmm!!
-
I love the marmalade and the apricot jam, *drool*
-
Have you tried the Marmalade recipe that was posted on this Forum a few months ago.....it is superb and so easy to make (so I am told!!!!:D). Ours has subsequenly been "Modified" to include fresh Ginger and Brandy and is better than ever 8)

Well I'm a creature of habit so when my jar of cucumber and cherry chutney ran out I set off to Pastries and Pies to stock up. Happened to spot the Plum Chutney and thought it was worth a try........................I'm addicted......it's delicious - it reminds me of the chutney my Dad used to get on his ploughmans when I was a little girl - it's not chunky - it's smooth and dark and delicious - if George Clooney happens to holiday in Calis - roll him in Liza's plum chutney and have him sent to me - Yummy :-)
