Title: Mozaic Bahce
Post by: Firo on July 08, 2009, 10:15:43 AM
Went to the above restaurant yesterday at lunch time. Eric had the BBQ chicken wrap and said it was the best wrap he had ever had in Turkey, myself and my friend shared the Mozaic house special between us and it was delicious. We had drinks as well and the total was 18tl for the 3 of us...bargain.
Friendly owners Dogan & Nichola, lovely garden setting and away from the traffic.
They serve only Turkish cuisine and the prices were very good. We will certainly be going back again and any visitors are also being taken there for a taste of Turkey.
It was a pleasant change to discover a restaurant that was different and authentic and value for money.
How to find it...in between the PTT and Carrefour is the Fethiye Kaymakin offices. If you have the offices behind you behind and look over the road there is a lane running up the side of a rental company. Go up there and you'll find it directly in front of you.

We went at a lunchtime and really liked it.
We then went back one night but the trees and bushes and lights attracted so many insects it was a nightmare trying to keep them out of our drinks and off our food.

thanks for the comments and feedback left in this thread and on a couple of other pages on the forum about the Mozaik Bahçe (Mosaic Garden) restaurant. Dogan and I opened the restaurant relatively recently so this is an important time to establish a good reputation.

Only offering speciality dishes from the south east of Turkey we aim to provide a very different experience to anything else that is found in this area; there is a strong Arabic influence which adds a little spice to many (not all) of the dishes.

We are on a strong learning curve at the moment and your feedback is important for us. We have dealt with the insect problem by using a spray, safe for human life forms and especially designed for use in restaurant gardens. We also now supply insect repellent for all customers who would like to use it.

We know the food is different, tasty, (although we can't please all of the people all of the time, we aim to..), plentiful and very reasonable priced.

We have been rated highly for offering a good and varied selection of vegetarian options and parents feel able to relax as their children can play safely in the garden away from the busy roads. Even though the restaurant is so central in Fethiye the tree shaded garden and location really makes it a little oasis of tranquility even if I do say so myself...)

We have just made a few changes to the menu to reflect customer feedback and this includes adding a mixed meze plate (regional mezes from east Turkey) enough for four people to share as a starter or as a snack and includes a hot favourite with the British Olives and fresh Thyme Salad.

We are making changes all the time so please feel free to make any constructive comments or suggestions here on this thread or direct to my email and we will do our best to act on them. Positive feedback would be nice too; I know Dogan will appreciate it; bless him he is working so hard at the moment.

Thanks to all who have taken the time to read this and hope I haven't taken any liberties as a newish but so far I think a fairly constructive contributer to the forum

You really must!!
Nichola and Dogan are friends of ours and have been working their socks off to get the restaurant up and running.  It has only been open since May 24th and is already a roaring success both with the local community and foreigners alike.  (I always think you can measure the quality of a restaurant's food when you see it packed with locals!)
The aforementioned chicken wrap (durum) really is incredible, and is only 4tl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The chicken melts in the mouth.  It really does.  The chicken sis kebabs (and other kebab dishes) are 8tl!!
The mezes etc are about 3.5tl and are absolutely delicious.  The puddings are amazing too.  Dogan flambes the "kunife" in front of guests in the garden, plus he home makes the sauce for one of the other authentic Hatay (Eastern Turkey) dishes "hataybicibici" - icecream with a rose sauce.  He is very proud of it.
The other puddings are home made in Hatay and put on the bus overnight and sent over to Fethiye including a pumpkin soaked in a sugary lime marinade - try it, its amazing!  I sound like an advert now and yes they are my friends but the place is truly wonderful and when a family of 4 can eat a 3 course meal there with drinks for under 60tl, I DO think you should try it and see for yourselves.

Went at Lunch time today......great, Dogan is a lovely guy and deserves to do well. He even came round at the end of the meal and asked if we felt there was anything he could do to make things better[^] but there wasn't!
We had a freshly prepared Meze for two and a Tavuc Sis and a Barbecue Wrap made with fresh liver (which I have not seen in the Fethiye area before) Absolutely lovely but it was so big I began to regret having the Meze as well as I could not manage a sweet and they had a couple of my favorites on the menu, Kabak Tatlisi and Kunefe:D
Although it was only about 50 metres from the main road and a similar distance fron the Fish market it can only be described as an oasis of calm. If you like real Turkish food you will enjoy this. As Del Boy said "You know it makes sense" 8)

thanks for the positive feedback everyone - Dogan just came home so I shared it with him too.

Just a couple of things the Kunife is also currently made in Hatay and sent up to us (see Pixie comments) - we did start off freshly preparing and flambeing the Kunife but until we are a little more settled we have put this on hold. However give us a few days notice if this is something that really takes your fancy and then we can buy the ingrediants in fresh and prepare especially for you.

Opening times
We are open every day from early morning until the last customers leave which is usually around 11-11.30pm...

but on Sundays we open at about 5.30pm so the staff have at least a day off each week.

Anyway, thanks again everyone

I would like to add my compliments in this topic too, which you may consider difficult as I have never been to this restaurant.

It is incredibly pleasing to see a restaurant owner replying to a topic about their restaurant, rather than arriving on the forum and posting big adverts for it all over the place. To me that tells a hell of a lot about the owners attitude.

Well done for that, and for achieving the superb credits above to Nichola & Dogan. I'll be in whenever we get over there to sample your wares  :)

It's great to see a business that takes trouble to find out what their customers (& others)think about them and what they can do to improve the experience.  I must admit that insects at dusk are a pain and not very tasty.
All we need now is a CBF discount & you'll have us all in your restaurant.
We will call in in August.
P.S. are you wheelchair friendly?

Hi Connor

when you see our prices you'll see why we don't do discount for anyone even our best mates...) honestly!

Re being wheelchair friendly; hhhhm well there is a little step up to the main path through the garden and then that path steps/slopes down a little again on to the garden. That's not so bad.

However to get into the restaurant itself would be more difficult with 2 steeper steps up and of course that is also where the toilets are. The womens toilet is a good size but doesn't have any hand rails etc so I'd say that inside the restaurant isn't really wheelchair user friendly.

However in time... we would want to redo the garden, cash flow permitting. I want decking Dogan wants that green grass stuff so for the outside that is an area where we could make access improvements as part of that work.

Any ideas from customers on how to improve the garden and keep it a garden will be hugely appreciated. At the moment I favour decking (if I say it enough it will happen!) built around the trees and bushes and a few wooden pots with nice perenial plants.

Bricking it is a no no, it would generate heat and frankly look horrid although we could probably drive around Fethiye and collect the surplus bricks used for the roads left lying around and do virtually for free.

So back to the question. Inside; well we hope maybe and again money permitting to extend the restaurant to the back room. When we do this we have talked about consulting the builder about any ideas for general improvements that can be done at the same time.

Apart from access which is an obvious one and I would like to think in time will be done please feel free to email any specific things you believe we should or could do in the meantime and we can build them into our spending plans.

Thanks very much for your comments and I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Nichola

Hi Trainer

1. head for the front of Carrefour and then walk to the Kayamalik offices. Face as if you were heading to the fish market. Opposite the offices you should see an Intercity Car Hire place and there is an alley there where the hire cars are parked.

Walk through there and you will see the Mozaic Bahce directly in front of you.

2. the easy answer to this question is if you know where the Fethiye Sultan Ahmet restaurant is then it is literally just behind there in a sort of semi residential area with pedestrianised streets.

Hope this helps and thanks to all that have taken the time to reply so positively on this thread.

Dogan comes home so tired every night so it is really nice for me to be able to tell him all your comments (even when he thinks some things could have been done better on a particular night).

Thanks all

Nichola

This is an independent review of the Mozaik Bahce restaurant reproduced from the Fethiye Times web site in their new section'Dinner Times'. Permission received to reproduce on the CBH.

Name: Mosaic Bache

Location: Downtown Fethiye

Amid the plethora of restaurant choices in Fethiye it is always nice to hear of something a little different.

So we were delighted to discover a new enterprise tucked well within the centre of town which is starting to attract a steady following of folks who want to enjoy good quality food that represents the regional cooking of Eastern Turkey.

The restaurant is owned and run by English speaking Dogan Eraslan who welcomed us personally.

He hails from Hatay and is very proud of the culinary heritage of that area.

The four hungry diners who sat down that evening were very impressed with the menu.

Each dish is accurately represented with a mouth watering photograph which saves the uninitiated from having to wrestle with pronunciation or ask what comes on the plate!

We wanted it all but after much deliberation were happy to settle for a mixed meze - one portion easily enough for 2 people given that it is served with delicious homemade bread.

It easily stretched to 4 however, as the other dishes that were brought to the table with steady regularity meant that there was not the expected formality of starters and main courses.

We also had a mixed salad to share between us and chose Manti (Turkish ravioli dressed with a beautiful garlic yoghurt), Mucver (courgette fritters) Isli Kofte (mince meat encased in couscous and deep fried) chicken kebab (exceptional) and Kagit kebab (meat cooked in paper).

Dogan and his team specialise in regional breads and each day brings a new surprise.

They also have a small selection of desserts if you have the room - we didn't - and found ourselves more than satisfied with our food and our experience.

The place isn't licenced, but as with all things in Turkey, where there is a will there is a way and we didn't have to sacrifice our favourite beverage to enjoy our meal.

The Mosaic Bahce serves all day - this is a place where you can pop in for a snack or have a culinary feast with your table groaning with food served by cheerful staff at an affordable price. The ‘paper' kebab, for example, was just 8 TL.

There is nothing nicer than to sit in the shady garden with a cool drink on the hot summer days that Fethiye is apt to deliver.

Do be warned that the home made lemonade is a hit and miss affair and can be horribly sweet but the homemade ayran is a real winner and surprisingly thirst quenching.

Apart from Dogan himself, the staff do not speak much English but make up for it with friendly service and enthusiasm.

Conclusion: It's a small, fledgling enterprise which is a delightful experience; our only concern being that the low price policy will jeopardise the long term possibilities of this delightful little eatery.

Date of visit: Friday 10 July - evening

Setting: modest back street garden overhung with trees
Type of Food - Eastern Turkish Specialities - a little spicier than the local offerings but beautifully balanced flavours

Other diners: a lovely mix of locals with their families, Turkish visitors to the area and enlightened foreigners

Ambiance: relaxed, casual, unhurried

Service: A little erratic but willing and polite

Total bill for 4 (including 5 alcoholic drinks and tip) 60 TL - 15 TL per head (£6.00)

How to get there: With your back to the PTT (Post Office) walk up the road facing you that leads to the Bazaarand fish market.  Then turn right down the first pedestrian walk way. The Mosaic Bahce is nestled on the left hand side nicely away from passing traffic in between the main through road and the Fish Market. It is actually directly behind the Fethiye Rent-a-Car offices.

Am coming out on Sunday for 5 weeks with children, friends and families....will most definately be calling in here as soon as we hit Fethiye and cant wait!! Love spicy food and traditional turkish food and good value, so this is first on my list.
Just wondering what sort of food is on offer for the children?
Many thanks, see you soon. Sue
ps. I have just realised who this lovely lady is .... if I am not wrong, she sells beautiful jewellery and mosaic lights at the Hisaronu market for superb prices...and she is so helpful. Am I right Nichola? Is it you?? I bought a lovely light from you in June and am back for another and some jewellery in the next week or so!!:D

Thanks very much Sue and Pookie; yes Sue I am at Hisaronu market on Mondays more like a Sauna market these hot days though and now that the craft market has reopened I am there every night too selling the mosaic lamp shades, lanterns and lots of lovely new chandeliers and lamp shades with designs and colours you won't find anywhere else; ALL hand made here in Turkey.

I have noticed a lot of painted glass Chinese copies this season in a lot of the shops and on the markets and I want to stress that if you are looking for quality then Turkish hand made lanterns etc with real coloured glass and brass fittings are the very best. They might cost a little extra but they will last and look great for longer than we do..)

Fatos makes the jewellery and she too is in Oludeniz on the craft market and also we share a pitch at the Monday market. Her jewellery is unequalled in its creativity only made with genuine crystals, gem stones and Venitian glass with 925 silver chain, clasps and charms. You can see some of her jewellery range on my web site; link to that is on CBF profile page. I will tell her you are coming Sue.

Childrens Options - we don't have them listed on the menu but we do have chicken nuggets and fish fingers served with chips available for children. For your daughter of 16 Pookie than she may well find something on the menu she will like.

Not all the dishes are spicy and Kanat (chicken wings East Turkey style of course) may be a good choice for her. Also the Durum Kebabs or the Manti (Turkish Ravioli) served with yoghurt and topped with a spicyish and garlic sauce or some of the mezes like humus (ask to have without the hot peppers on top) or Öcce (Fritters) made with mint, parsley and spring onions, these are really tasty and my personal favourite. We also have Içli Kofte too.

We have been able to prepare some dishes especially for people with allergies when given some advance notice. There is a landline number to call see Fethiye Times review above or email me the day before and I'll pass on the message to Dogan.

I hope this helps and do say hi to Dogan from me we are like ships that pass in the night these days. When the season is over I hope to spend more time in the restaurant helping out where I can too.

Hi Jacqui

the Monday market in Hisaronu is by the roundabout on the road to Oludeniz - opposite the PTT. If you come on the Dolmus or by car from Fethiye you can't miss it.

It is a bit like the Tuesday market but smaller and less fruit and veg stalls.

Let us know via my email if you decide to come along.

We'll look forward to seeing you..)

Dogan and I would like to thank all the CBF members who have come once, twice and those who are well on their way to becoming regulars at the Mozaik Bahce restaurant. Thanks also for all the positive feedback you have posted. It really makes a differnce and is greatly appreciated.

A little update; I didn't get my decking in the garden but on the recommendation of some friends we have put small white rough crystal looking and ironically named Mozaik Stones on the ground.

It looks really nice and the customers have all commented favourably. Shouldn't be a problem for wheel chairs or extrodinarily high heels which appears to be the latest fashion statement for this season!

The slightly revised menu taking account of some customers feedback is working well.

And finally Dogan is going to start spending more time in the kitchen himself too now we have a new member of staff in the garden who speaks good English. For those that haven't had the pleasure of enjoying Dogan's cooking before you are in for a treat. He is an excellent chef as all my friends will confirm.

Anyway, that's all for now and thanks again.

Here's a challenge - we went with Brian and Ann (Tribalelder) a couple of weeks ago and the food was excellent and good value as everyone has said - no problems there for a careful person like me :D

There was a tape playing the most relaxing, haunting, sort of chamber music. I asked Dogan what it was - but I suspect it didn't have a label on it  ;) as he looked but didn't come back to me.

He did say something about love - but then a few nights later I heard it again at the Er Oz Hotel but for other reasons couldn't get the name. I want to buy it but don't know what it is...........................

Anyone any ideas ?????? (Told you it was a challenge)

I believe you haven't recovered since Manchester was acknowledged as being the home to the 2 biggest clubs in the country  ;)

Rising to the music challenge it was probably one of the Secret Garden Albums 'Dreamcatcher'. Mostly instrumental - can't recall if there are any songs on it but definitely haunting in a nice way and very relaxing.

You can look it up on Amazon and preview the tracks and even download any particular tracks you like for a small fee. Secret Garden have more than one album but I'm sure it is the Dreamcatcher album we have.

Hope this helps

Hi - this is probably directed more at Nichola - we are coming over on the 10th August and we have a special birthday whilst we are there. We usually go into Fethiye but not with any clear idea of where we are going to eat. I think we have now found where we would like to go - is it worth booking in advance? We wouldn't want to risk turning up on spec and being disappointed on the actual birthday.
Thanks Fifi

Hi Fifi

if there is a big group coming for this special birthday it may well be worth ringing the restaurant or emailing me when you want to come and I can pass on the message to Dogan. We actually ran out of food a couple of weeks ago and had to turn away 3 groups of people although that was about 11 at night.

Or we can reserve a romantic table for you if that is more appropriate.

If you would like something extra special planned we can help with a little notice.

Just email via my profile, always happy to help. :)

Thank you Nichola - there will only be 6 of us - me, hubby, 18 year old daughter and 15 year old son, and our 2 friends. It is my best friend's birthday and we would like to come somewhere recommended rather than take pot luck. Thank you for the offer, I will probably feel better letting you know in advance.

We are in the Mozaic Bahce at this very minute. Just had the Meze.  Chris doesn't like Olives, but just ate some; must be the way they did them.  Loved it.  Waiting for the "Special". Will report further.

Four of us ate at the restaurant in July unfortunatley we did not enjoy our meals. What we were served didnt resemble the picture on the menu. We did enquire and were told that it was correct but just served differently.

This is just my experience and I wish them all the best.

Reportin further.
The special was terrific.  Something I've never tasted before but will again if I can remember what it was called.  Well worth going back & trying some more items from here.
One downpoint was something that Nichola has no control over; Chris was bitten for the first time this holiday.

When we went I had the hot pepper bread or something like that. You better eat it quickly because if you don't it turns into a rubber-like compound. That isn't a criticism, it is gorgeous. Just eat it quickly :D

I had the spicy chicken wings and they were lovely.  A nice little restaurant with frindly staff.  Just after we left there, we bumped into a crowd of people searching for this place - hubby kindly took them in the right direction, and they told him they had read about it on the Calis Beach Forum!  Don't know who they were, but hope they enjoyed their meals as much as we did.

Continued thanks to everyone who has left comments on this thread, we appreciate it and do take on board all comments.

Connor, we share the same surname, you're not an oggie as well are you?

I had a word with Dogan and he's promised anyone caught biting the customers will be in serious trouble! Seriously though I did check that we still continue to spray to minimize unwanted bugs and things, we do so poor Chris was a bit unlucky that night. Glad you enjoyed your meal though and discovered an olives dish you like.

Oh and the special is called the errrrr Mozaik Special; hope you enjoy it as much the next time around. We adopted what is actually called ‘Tepsi (tray) kebap' as the Mozaik Special.

My favourite place to eat this is in Antakya where the butcher (literally at a butchers shop) mixes up the meat with the herbs and spices and then upstairs they have a few tables and chairs and serve a double portion for two in a large round tray and you eat it using the bread that's served with it - no knives and forks.

We originally planned to serve it that way too and that leads on nicely to my next update.

A few weeks after we opened we stopped using the big oven (cost about 100TL a day to run) and had to serve as single portions even when 2 people ordered it. That's why the now defunct picture on the menu looked so big. It also now comes with a side salad as well as the bread.

Anyway, following on from Foosey's comments I have redone the photos for the menu over the last week or so where they no longer represented what we were serving.

The new menus with new photos have been printed and have been in use for a few days now.

We have also added a map to the small take away menu which may help first timers find it a little more easily. We give these to customers to ‘take away' with them if they want to.

Anyway, I don't think I have forgotten anything so I'll say bye for now and when the season is over I look forward to having the time to spend there myself meeting some of you I have as yet only met on this thread.

I'll be the one looking like a lost soul unless the dishwasher takes a sickie and then I'll be relegated to washing the dishes and not for the first time!

I'm not sure what an "Oggie" is, but I don't think I am one.  Our surname comes from "Cheap-man" (cheap in price but not quality) a kind of itinerant tinker.  Basically a travelling salesman.  our relatives must have got about a bit in the past.
Chris is going back over in October and will call in to sample more of your culinary wares. If she can't pay, I hope you've got some rubber gloves.

Hi Connor, an oggie is someone from Cornwall! There are a lot of Chapmans there.

Interesting what you say about the origins of the name Chapman. Seems like me and my family are keeping the tradition alive, we all sell quality items at reasonable prices apart from my brother who sells cheap party tat at cheap prices in Basingstoke. No offence to my bro intended, people love it!

Only had the chance to visit once at lunchtime during our week here, so sampled the BBQ chicken wrap that had been recommended by a couple of people.I can honestly say it was fantastic!!Had been to Gocek several days earlier & had paid 10 lira for a very disappointing chicken wrap. The wrap at Mosaic Bahce was cooked to perfection & was bursting with flavours at only 5 lira.A nice place set slightly back from the hurly-burly but well worth a visit!!

Created this account just to say thanks to all who recommended this place and to recommend it myself, stayed in Calis and ate out every night but this was hands down the best meal I had there

In fact it was the only meal where I was eating things where it didnt taste like I was eating food I could get at home

Loved the place straight away, really friendly and welcoming with ambient Turkish music (which was excellent)

The prices were so cheap we couldnt resist overloading on starters (that and the fact they actually sounded different and interesting) and they were all great, had the chicken for mains and it blew me away - was absolutely gutted we only found this place on the last night

Homemade lemonade also deserves a special mention - delicious

Any criticisms?  well after the Turkish ambient music came a Turkish-style Greatest Classical Album Ever which was a bit cheesy but amusing, and Mrs Monkfish got bitten a few times (though whether it was here or out and about in Fethiye I dont know)

Finally if your staying anywhere near Fethiye go here, early in your stay as I reckon you might want a second visit

Just to add our opinions on Menemen at Mosaic Bahce, we have eaten there several times and each time there was a menemen ordered. We have never seen anything approaching "swimming in oil". In fact, I can't think why such a dish would have oil in it at all?

You saute tomatoes, onions, peppers and some herbs until they are all soft then at the end you break in two eggs and whisk it all round until the egg white is cooked (not snotty). Delicious and a truly Turkish dish that I can actually do at home  :)

mmmmmmh menemen - good enough to eat!

to compliment the recipe supplied by Lance just missing the one secret but vital ingredient that gives ours the edge and makes it that little bit different...

and while I am here at 3 in the morning with nothing better to do it seems than figure out image shack (searched for sugar shack by mistake and nearly entered a p0rn site) here is a preview of a new dish available to order now...

Mixed grill - all meats cooked on the barbeque of course

The Mozaik Bahce will be open in the winter, but...

From this Sunday 4th October we will be closed all day (as usual) and now also Sunday evening too.

Sorry that this is short notice for anyone with plans for this Sunday.

At the moment we will continue to remain open every day and evening Mondays to Saturdays inclusive.

If we need to make any other changes to our winter opening times to remain viable enough to ensure we will still be here this time next year I will use the separate topic thread I opened to let you know.

We hope to make some changes to the garden to keep part of it open winter evenings and will make improvements to the inside of the restaurant to make it a more enticing place to eat in November.

Thanks to all of you for your continued support; you have been asking about our winter opening so we hope this helps to spread the word.

Just wanted to add to all the great comments, and say we went to Mozaic Bahce last week, after reading all the great reviews. We all had a lovely meal. I liked the look of all the starters, so had 3 of them (instead of a main meal!). Loved the pepper bread, loved the salad that comes with the meals, loved it all. I did get a few mossie bites, but thats my own fault in that it was our first night and I thought  they would all be hibernating by that time of year!! (will take the spray next time.) Wish we would have had time to go again, but never got round to it. This will be first on my list for next year. If youre starting deliveries to Scotland, let me know!!!

Mosaik Bahce has quickly become one of the best places in Fethiye to have a really yummy feed for a really good price. I took my father there when he was visiting from Australia in October, and he said it was "the best food he had had in Turkey". Nichola has been a close friend of mine for 7 years, and I can honestly say that she and Dogan are among the hardest working people I know. I am thrilled to read all of the positive reviews, and hope that the Fethiye community continues to support them throughout the quieter winter months. I know I will!!! yummmmmy

We have decided to close the Mozaik Bahce restaurant until Spring - it sadly hasn't proved viable to remain open in winter despite all our loyal customers coming as often as they can.

We really appreciate all the wonderful support from Forum members and look forward to seeing you all in a few months time.

In the meantime however you can become a fan of the Mozaik Bahce on Facebook.

http://www.facebook.com/#/pages/Fethiye-Turkey/Mozaik-Bahce/232262358272

We would love you to post your photos (if there are any) of the time you spent with us (I was there is spirit) and if you have time to write a restaurant review on the Facebook - there are sections for reviews and discussions, or post a comment on our wall.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year.

Do keep in touch and see you soon - next season isn't that far away really!

Best wishes

What's New?

The Mozaik Bahçe (Mosaic Garden) - serving speciality dishes from eastern Turkey will reopen on Thursday the 1st April.

We will have

-   new dishes on the menu - which you'll be able to sample if you can make our Official Opening Party - date and details to follow soon:
-   a new round ‘Pot Luck' table - and great for larger groups of 6 - 8 people
-   free wireless internet access
-   a (small) children's toy box
-   introduced CBF discount and a weekly raffle - see separate post below for eligibility and details
-   some new music

We catered for a few special events parties last year and will be available for party and group bookings this year too.

There will still be a few tables inside but this year I am opening a show/sales room for my website inside the restaurant - predominantly the lovely Turkish hand crafted mosaic lanterns and mosaic lighting. Other items can be brought in on request.

Absolutely no inferior Chinese painted glass and tinny metal copies and NO hard sell or hassle.

Dogan and I are very much looking forward to this season and seeing you all again  :)  :)  :)

We always appreciate feedback and if your experience is not up to expectations we ask that you let us know - its always better to know at the time of course... we will never be offended and do whatever necessary to put it right.

I did mention discount and I'll post more details about that later today/tonight... but do you have a CBF t-shirt[?]

just a quickie before I rush back out

web address www.theturkishtradingcompany.com

don't be put off by prices of large items like chandeliers and lamp shades as prices include postage which is astonomical for items over 2 kilos.

I also have 'local' prices and they haven't gone up in 4 years... so works out cheaper to buy here and discount for buying 2 items or more

was lovely to see so many people passing by today; not often you'll get to see me on my knees!!!!  ;)

We hope you have a great season Dogan & Nichola and we look forward to lots more fab food, iced coffees and to spending time in your Oasis.

Thanks for everyone for the feedback; we had a really pleasant opening day and it was lovely to see everyone. If every day is like this then we are in for a very enjoyable season.

We are having an

Official Opening Party 'Open Buffet Style'

This Tuesday 6th April at 12.30pm

Just 12.50TL per person

We have some new dishes on the menu so this will be an opportunity to sample all our mezes, main meals and of course desserts.

We have reorganised the garden so there are more tables in the shade for those hotter summer days...  8)

We are looking forward to seeing everyone and meeting new folks too

Hi Nichola

Sue and I ate at the Mosaic Gardens with friends last year.
Thought it was good value and excellent service.

We will be over early May and intend to revisit again.

Good luck with the "Official Opening Party" on the 6th.

We've just got back from the opening party and cannot believe how much food was set out to basically help yourself to.  Absolutely delicious, we couldn't fault any dish and the staff were great, friendly but not in your face.  The setting is very chilled and laid back.  We kept meaning to go last year but just never got round to it...won't make that mistake this year ;)

To anyone who did not go to the Official Opening Buffet at Mosaik Bache today that is a pity because you missed an absolute treat of Turkish cuisine. There was an abundance of starters and all the wonderful dishes from their Main menus were available to gladden anyone's taste buds and if you had room there were sweets to follow. Although we are regular visitors there we have never tried the iced coffee before....it is everything that has been said about it and more! Congratulations to Dogan & Nichola and of course all their staff they did a great job. If you do another one we will be first in the queue:D

I love trying Turkish food..being a mere holiday maker twice a year, and the food was out of this world!!!. Will definately be going back during my holidays!. Lots to choose from, and good prices!! 10/10.

Open Buffet
Thanks for all the suggestions re another open buffet day. We will do one more to celebrate the beginning of the summer season - date to be decided...

However we do have a really nice new round table which very comfortably seats 8 people. If you can come with a group then you can choose a selection of Mezes and main meals and share them and if one of you is wearing a CBF t-shirt then you'll get the 10% discount.

You can see the full menu on the Mozaik Bahce Facebook Fan Page now
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fethiye-Turkey/Mozaik-Bahce/232262358272

Vegetarian options
I am working on Dogan to include a couple of veggie options. There isn't space on the menu itself and I have to get into the kitchen myself to make some dishes based on the Antakya Cookbook we have. If you are vegetarian and are planning to come please drop me a line before hand or better still phone the restaurant and tell Dogan 614 46 53.

He needs a little boot up the bottom on this one. I have been talking about this since we opened. But as said previously our mezes are very nice and different and we have had Vegans as well as Vegetarians make the Mozaik Bahçe their restaurant of choice while here on holiday.

Closed on Sunday until the end of May
Until the end of May we are closed all day and the evening on Sundays.

From June we will also open on Sunday evenings. We have a small staff team and this is the only way we can ensure they all have some time off.

The weekly raffle
I am really sorry but it seems unless I am there the boys find it difficult to remember to do this so we are dropping this.

But we will continue to offer the Calis Beach Carnival a 3 course meal for two for their fund raising raffles and auctions so this is one way can give something back while helping good causes.

There are 3 outstanding free meals for two from the Calis Beach Carnival fund raisers from last year - whoever you are please come whenever you can to take them up.

Open Monday to Saturday day and evenings throughout the season

April and May closed on Sunday day and evenings

From June onwards we will also be open Sundays late afternoon/evenings but not the day time.

Hope that's clearer than mud  ;)

I know its not normal here but we want the staff to have some time off and Sunday seems to be the best day as many shops in town don't open until the evening either.

Other news - free wireless internet connection is on...

We now have a very tasty chick pea and vegetable saute vegetarian option.

We also have set menus including one for vegetarians too which will work out a bit cheaper for 3 courses...  :)

It is delicious Cazza -
We got off the dolmus from Calis (the one that went through Gunlukbasi) at the dolmus station in Fethiye and with the "conveniences" in front of us, turned left along that side street.  We then walked straight through the fish market - there is an entrance between the shops (on the right hand side) and out the other side so you are in the middle of a square - wander around that square and you will find it.  It's a few minutes from where the dolmus ends.  I'm sure someone who knows Fethiye well will correct me if that's a more complicated route but we found it easy (ish).  Worth finding though - delicious food and great lamps too!!

I had positive feedback on these directions so I am copying them here too...

From the main Fethiye Dolmus drop off point.

Get off dolmus, walk back to the bottom of the road with the mosque on the corner (on your left).

Turn left. Stay on this side of the road. Walk in a straight line for about 3 to 4 mins, Dogan says. This is the main one way road into Fethiye

As you walk you will pass on your left a school & playground, the Polis Station.

Just past the Polis Station you will come to a road to cross - cross over.

You are nearly there.

Walk about 60 metres. Just before you come to the pedestrian crossing on the main road (the one with traffic lights) there is a wide turning on your left between a Hairdressers and Intercity Car Hire.

So turn left here and you will see set back about 20-30 metres trees a large rectangle Mozaik Bahce sign at just above head level.

You are there :D

If it is night time you will see 'new' soft green lighting in the trees...

If you were to walk further along the main road another 80 metres you would come to the town centre Carrefour.

If you come to another side road to cross or Carrefour you have gone too far...

Hope this helps  Looking forward to seeing you all and thanks everyone for all the positive feedback so far this year  :)

We were so glad to meet Dogan when we came in for lunch last week.  So sorry to have missed Nichola.  The food was delicious and we fully intended to come back out on the Saturday night for an evening meal but unexpectedly Engin and his team came to do the work on our apartment.  We never got another chance to come out as we flew back to the UK yesterday.

Apart from the lovely meze we had, I was also so impressed with the beautiful lamps on display but will now have to wait until we're back out again to buy any.  In the meantime Nichola I'll be having a look at the website so that I can decide on which lamps I want - they're all sooooo lovely though that I think I'll have trouble deciding!

The Mozaic Bahce has a lovely feel to it and we were made so very welcome - just sorry we couldn't get back out for an evening - but there's always next time, and the time after ......

Its a lovely garden to share a light lunch in, or to enjoy a candle lit evening meal.
Food wonderfully different, and staff so pleasant and friendly.
The location is central Fethiye, just stand halfway between Carrefour and the PTT, cross the road and go behind the car rental opposite to the pedestrian path.
And there it is!

Thursday mornings at 10.30, an art is held there for beginers , who have never painted before, and improvers.
Great fun and everyone welcome.
No need for materials on first class, and no need to book, you can just turn up and join in!!

This restaurant is definately well worth the visit

Although we returned home last Wednesday this is my first real opportunity to take time out to add to the very long list of recommendations on this thread. We were 6 days into our two week holiday before we made it to the restaurant and it was so good we returned twice more even though we knew there were lots of other places we hadn't tried. The food was excellent and Nichola and Dogan made us feel extremely welcome.

Nichola, I am not sure whether Clare has put the photos on your facebook page yet as promised - I will remind her!

It's a great pleasure to be able to add our own compliments to the ever increasing list.

Mozaik Bahce certainly is an oasis in the centre of Fethiye. The first thing that strikes you is the simple, tasteful décor which immediately creates a truly restful feel.

As others have said Nichola and Dogan are simply delightful hosts and attend to your every need with total ease.

Brenda and I popped in one lunch time and enjoyed their lovely chicken wraps. Having briefly studied the menu, it didn't take Brenda long to decide that we must return one evening for dinner.

Fortunately, we managed to do so on our last evening and had a superb meal. My only regret was that I could not eat more of the delicious food than I did.

And the icing on the cake was the great pleasure of meeting Gorgeous Bird and Nick and having the opportunity to talk with them and Nichola and Dogan.

If you want to spend a relaxing evening enjoying excellent food in a beautiful setting, then seek out this lovely place.

Thank you Nichola and Dogan - Brenda and I hope you have a splendid season and we very much look forward to seeing you again the next time we are over.

(Perhaps easiest directions now are to look. or ask, for the new Domino Pizza place and walk straight past it. Unless they moved it, there's a sign for the Moziak Bahce in the alley)

We also found it one lunchtime and were really impressed with the lovely food and great hosting.
We returned  for an evening meal, which is really unusual for us, as we normal stay in Calis to eat in the evening. We had the pleasure of meeting Anne (the barmaid from hell) and her husband.  Could not resist going back for more lunchtime food, we tried to have something different each time and nothing disappointed us.  Cannot recommend this lovely place more highly.

Visited this place for the first time on Friday and it is really lovely.
Attention to detail makes all the difference.
Food was superbly cooked and presented.
good portions and plenty of choice.
We enjoyed one of our many girls-nigts-out there and we will definately be going back.
Keep up the good work !

I have been compiling a list of all the restaurants that are recommended either here or on Trip Advisor for our imminent trip to Calis Beach.  Turkish /Greek / Cypriot / Middle Eastern food has been my favourite ever since a trip to Crete 20 years ago.

Now it seems I can discard the list and just come to this amazing place every night for 11 nights.

I have been a foodie since I turned about 14 and good food and drink has been a very important part of my life for the 40 years since then. As it happens about seven years ago I developed a perennial allergy to something (nobody knows what) and the result is that normally I cannot smell or taste ANYTHING! However my doctor said I can safely take steroids three times a year and they cure me temporarily.

So you can probably guess how much I am looking forward to this trip and whenever I do come to Mozaic Bahce I am going to ask Dogan and Nichola to recommend something to me from their menu.

If you see a man weeping with joy at the table that'll be me.

Pookie - Tepsi Kebap (Tray Kebap) one of my favourites and if you like it extra spicy just ask because it is all made fresh and to order.

Dogan sometimes let me have it but mostly he makes me eat staff meal!!  ;)

PS we are currently No1 on Trip Advisor  :-\

This has so many great reports that we must try it.
Sorry if this has been asked before......but....... exactly where is it please?
Precise directions would be good, perhaps from, say, the dolmus terminus behind the big mosque.
Thanks.

go to mosque - walk to town centre past police station on left PTT on right.

Keep walking in straight line and cross road until you get to Intercity Car hire on left. Total walk will take no more than a couple of minutes.

Turn to your left at Intercity car hire and it straight in front of you set back from the road about 20-30 metres.

Hope this helps - see you there :D

Hello,
Just returned from Turkey in the early hours of this morning. Visited this gorgeous little restaurant twice during our holiday. Took the water taxi from Calis. Stumbled on the restaurant the first time and as we were looking for something authentic it really grabbed us. The food is divine and the service and friendliness are second to none. No insects, just great food and lovely people. Can't wait for next year to eat here again.
Well done guys - hope you have a great season.

Sorry forgot to add a special thanks for thinking of us "veggies", and adding more vegetarian options, never got past the mixed plate with pepper bread this time (truly delicious !!) as we just had lunch a few times, back in September and we'll make an evening of it, and try the new vegetarian dishes.

Hi
Many thanks for the recommendation. We usually eat in Calis but decided to see if this Restaurant was as good as all the posts. Terrific quality food from eastern Turkey----Just like cuisine you would receive if you are fortunate to dine with Turkish Families.

I wish everyone great success with this lovely restaurant.:D

Got back to the UK at midnight last night after 11 wonderful days in Calis. I only  sampled half of the restaurants on my list but that's ok because I did at least encounter some unexpected gems.

I expected great things from Mozaic Bache and it didn't disappoint. The only disappointment was that I didn't get to meet  Nichola because she was busy trying to rescue the dolphins the  night we ate there.

Dogan was a wonderful host nonetheless and the food was superb. I was ridiculously full  be the time I had finished my starter and main meal but then I remembered all the posts about the desserts that are shipped in every day from East Turkey so I forced myself to eat a bit more food and I was so glad that I did because it was sensational.

We will be back one day. If I have my way it will be soon because my cousin's apartment is for sale  :)

I don't think much can be added to the praise of Mozaik Bahce that hasn't been said in the 22 pages so far but do want to add my own comments. I have always seen it as a lunchtime destination but we met friends there for a meal after a boat trip one evening. I was wrong to see it as a lunchtime place - it's very atmospheric at night and also far more comfortable to be there without the daytime sun and heat. It is a very urban location but you can forget that after dark.

Within moments of the drinks arriving, a fly landed on my glass rim and as I went to flap at it, it fell straight in to my drink. Well, my glass was gone and a fresh drink appeared soon after. It wasn't the fault of the restaurant or the staff, if it was the fault of anyone it was me - but that sort of service shouldn't go unnoticed and we appreciate that level of service very highly.

Meals were lovely, Mrs Scunner could live on Mozaik Bahce's Menemen, and their hot pepper bread and kebaps are as good as everyone has told you already.

Dogan is quite charming and Nichola might blush to read that she is a very engaging hostess, someone who really does care if you have a good experience in the restaurant, and quite adept as a 'plate spinner' - moving from place to place and table to table keeping everyone happy and attended to without any ommissions. It's not easy to do it enough but not too much! She even manages to do this while having a small meeting regarding the dolphins, and chasing butterflies coming out of an elephants trunk with my kids  ;)

I must say the praise is all very much earned but in a natural way. Well done guys on what appears to be one of the big success stories of the last year or two.

I totally agree with everything that has been said on here!  Was there last night and it is such a relaxing place to have a meal.  Everybody connected cannot do enough for you, but are not in your face.  It is not place that wants to make a quick lira, there is a genuine welcome and all they want is that you enjoy the food they provide! The service is EXCELLENT!  The added bonus they provide is a winner!!

I have been asked by Dogan to write something here.

A review has gone out in a local newspaper but instead of the final copy being printed the first draft has appeared and has some factual errors about our prices.

It's all my fault and he is very angry with me so can I ask please don't turn up having read the review and expect to find our meals available at last Mays prices.

Thank you and sorry

Hi Kazzie

we have a really nice large round table that is perfect for groups.

At the moment it seems to be a good idea to make a booking if you know when you want to come, even if its just the day before so we can reserve the table for you.

But its not essential...

I can send you a PM with my mobile number so if you want to you can  text me b4 hand or send me an e mail.

Look forward to meeting you - its very very very hot at the moment even at night so bring lots of cool cotton clothes  :)

You are there.

If it is night time you will see 'new' soft green lighting in the trees...

If you were to walk further along the main road another 80 metres you would come to the town centre Carrefour.

From the water taxi - get off head towards what was Carrefour and is now Migros look for Domino pizza and we are behind there set back off the road

Hope this helps  Looking forward to seeing you  :)

I know this is a thread about Mozaic Bahce, but I think it needs to be said that Nichola (and Dogan) have worked like trojans 24/7 for the Dolphin campaign.  Running a very busy restaurant through the heat of the summer and holiday season, coping with a thriving business (Nikkie's) and still have what has been endless energy, drive and passion for Misha and Tom - Nik, you are a wonder woman.  You both deserve a rest now, put your feet up and enjoy spending time together....xx  Not too long though, cos we may be back soon for a huge bowl of the best Hummus in Fethiye xxx

Now, back on thread !!! x

How sweet you all are planning a surprise party for me and Dogan :D

Honestly though what would make us the happiest is if everyone came along on Friday to Aksazlar Beach Club and celebrated Misha and Tom's freedom and by doing so contribute to the Rescue and Rehab Fund.

BTW a big thank you to John and Brenda - you know what for and so sorry I was missing again! All in a good cause though.

Here is the link to what should be the biggest ever event (apart from Calis Carnival). Please support us fund the rehab costs... thank you  :)

Dogan and I would like to thank you all for a wonderful season - its been a real pleasure to meet so many of you again and some for the first time. Good to put avatars to faces too. I have ditched mine as you can see :D

We have decided that we will make Sunday 31st October the last evening for this year.

Open until then every day and evening except for Sundays when we are just open from 6pm (18.00).

Many of you will be very pleased, as am I that we have every intention of opening at the beginning of April 2011

... in the same location.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the decision making process about a possible change of venue.

Have a wonderful winter - you can keep in touch via the Mozaik Bahce fan page on Facebook; link below - and we look forward to seeing you all next year.

Food was just fab when we met Tribalelder and his better half there for lunch....really enjoyed it...cant wait until next time.

Actually Nichola, your cat was the centre of attention, one of your ladies was trying to sweep the floor inside and telling the cat to stay outside the door, she was having none of it and just kept going back in and yowling back at the girl, it was so hilarious and so entertaining, then when a family arrived with a youngster and a buggy which had a basket type thing underneath for putting things in, your cat got into it and rolled up and went asleep...we were howling and the family thought it was really funny tooo......so good food and good entertainment as well....look forward to the food and the cat next time lol...xx

We will have a vegetarian kebap as a main meal with all the trimmings. The vegetable kebap will also be an option for the wrap too. These will be cooked separately from the meat section of the barbeque.

An improved upon chick pea and vegetables dish will also be available - I think that is served as a sizzling dish and comes with a new accompaniment...

...Fikir is smoked wheat chaffs, with bulgar and chick peas and will come with most of the main meals... as will mash potato - don't ask!

I am in discussions now about how Fikir can be used as a base for another veggie option.

And of course most of our yummy mezes are vegetarian.

All vegetarian meals will also appear on the menu this year :D

I can now finally add our names to the long list of fans of this amazing restaurant.  Eaten there 3 times over the last couple of weeks (sadly back home now and just dreaming of it!)

The food is probably some of the best we've ever eaten in Turkey and at such reasonable prices.  Last Saturday we went for lunch, ate so much we didn't eat for the rest of the day! :D

It was lovely to meet both Nichola and Dogan. We wish you both every success for the rest of the summer and will be back next time we're in Calis most definitely.

Mozaik Bahce opening times
Just a little reminder about our opening times to avoid disappointment

Sunday - we open at 6pm (evening) so everyone gets some time off to relax and refresh.

Mondays to Saturdays inclusive - open all day and evening until late - always feel free to pop in for a late night dessert, even after eating elsewhere - we don't mind at all :D

And just picking up on some comments about drinks for children on another topic...

Soft drinks
Large cokes, Fanta, large glass 2.5TL

And these often go unnoticed
homemade organic lemonade (not fizzy)
organic home made blackberry cordial
large glass and both 3TL (sugar is added)

Milk shakes made with ice cream 5TL

Bumped but available
And finally we had to bump a few things off the menu to make room for some new dishes but they are still available and this includes the "legendary" pepper bread that proved too hot for most :P

Feedback
Thank you for all our reviews so far this year. We welcome your feedback as well as your reviews and some of the changes to our menu and the restaurant environment have come from some of you.

Thank you

You can't expect to advertise your menu on here like that. Where's the price for Efes :D

p.s. Sad to see my old fave the pepper bread relegated to "bumped but available" - legendary indeed, I loved it, but as mentioned before, it has to be eaten quite fast (before it changes form from pepper bread to table tennis bat rubber!!!).

I usually avoid topics on the "price of an Efes" but you've asked so nicely and we owe CBF so much... its not the least or most expensive you'll find, settling at a cool 5TL (large) :D

And Rob, Dogan is normally there until 1pm often later especially as the season picks up...  :)

We ate at mosaic this week and the food was delicious. Our only gripe was too much bread that accompanied the starters-we ate far too much & couldn't finish our mains (probably our own fault for being too greedy but they did bring 2rounds of it to the table.)

The food is really good value for money (prob the cheapest meal & most yummy we've had in Turkey) and the waiter was very friendly-perhaps he could have advised that we didn't need to order as much food as we did as the portions are quite large.

Just a friendly word of advice for the owners-keep up the good work but please please please put the dust buster away whilst diners are still at the table.....wait to Hoover up once we've left.

Dogan and I would like to say a big thank you to Bernie - the whole of the Seketur Hotel were in tonight and also to everyone else who has personally recommended us to friends, family, people they met on a boat, on an excursion, in the bar or around the pool.

While many people come to the Mozaik Bahce because they saw reviews on this forum or Trip Advisor I would say the majority of people are coming on personal recommendations.

This means an awful lot to us,

We would also like to thank those that have given us positive feedback but just as importantly those that have let us know if something is not quite right; not always a comfortable thing to do.

This helps us make the meals and the service better for everyone and we always discuss and act on it if its within our control and really appreciate your input.

PS the table hoover has gone :D thanks Billjack

Just landed back in the UK and missing Turkey already.  Just wanted to thank you Nichola and Dogan for a lovely meze lunch at Mozaic.  It was nice to meet Dogan again and to meet you for the first time Nichola and it was nice to have a chat with you and learn a bit more about the Fethiye area in general.  The meze was delicious and your iced coffee is our favourite - love the dash of chocolate in it.  Thank you also for the free info book, which is so useful to have.  We absolutely loved the lamps we bought from you.  Our only dilemma was whether to keep them in Turkey or bring them home - they look lovely in our apartment in Ovacik and we'll be back for more in September for our UK home.  Thank you both again for a very pleasant lunch and a welcome break for my husband from the shopping trip I dragged him to Fethiye for.

Our first visit to this restaurant. What a nice and welcoming couple Nicola and Dogan are.The menu was subtly different to the normal Turkish food we enjoy.Pomegranite in the meze!.Some interesting and delicate sensations to the taste buds
The meal portions were healthy (Full to busting)
The setting with the tables set amongst the trees was quite romantic.
The place was full when we arrived which was good considering the number of empty restaurants we saw en route.
We meant to visit again, but best laid plans etc-Would certainly recomend to anybody who appreciates real Turkish food with a twist.

On the strength of all the comments here, we tried the Mozaic Bache a couple of weeks ago.  Unfortunately we had the worse meal we have ever had in Turkey.  We obviously must have chosen wrongly perhaps we should have stuck to the vegetarian selection, but on the strength of the meals we had we would not go back.   Shame, as the place itself is lovely and you could not fault the welcome we received but unfortunately the meal we had was really not good.  We have had much better and tastier meals at the Megri lokanta for much the same price.

If it was the worst meal you have ever had in Turkey, why did you not complain, or ask for a reduction on the bill.  Surely you did not just eat up, pay the bill and walk away?
I think that Dogan & Nichola will be very upset that you did not tell them at the time of eating the meal that it was not to your liking or that there was something so terribly wrong.
I do not think you had caught them on a bad day, they do not have bad days.
We have eaten here many times and have not had one cause to complain.

To be honest we didn't actually eat much of the meal, and as the restaurant was full of people who seemed to be enjoying their food we did not want to draw attention to ourselves by complaining.    So, yes, we did simply pay up and leave.   In hindsight yes we probably should have pointed out what was wrong with the meal, but for reasons given above we just walked away.

Christie, why don't you message Nichola and let her know what was wrong - I'm sure she will welcome you letting her know.
I really am surprised at this - was it that it was not to your liking rather than a poor meal perhaps?
I'm sure you can tell from the hundreds of posts that dining here is invariably an excellent experience - such a shame it wasn't for you.

I must say I find it so wrong that anyone, who has a bad meal, in any restaurant, anywhere in the world, should not complain to the proprietors and give them a chance to rectify the situation for whatever reason. It does not mean you draw attention to yourselves if it is done quietly and politely and if you don't complain then the proprietors have no chance to rectify the situation. So rather than complain and get it sorted you choose to go on a public forum and state "it was the worst meal you had ever had in Turkey".
So so wrong when you could not be bothered to talk to Nicola or Dogan in person.
Title: Mozaic Bahce
Post by: Christie on October 09, 2011, 14:54:46 PM
It was not that we could not be bothered to speak to the owners.  If and when, on the rare occasion, we feel the need to complain we would of course always do it quietly and politely, however as explained earlier the place was full and people would obviously have been aware that we were not happy.  We chose on this occasion to just leave it.  Surely, the idea of this forum is to put your own indivual comments - if we had complained to someone at the restaurant we would still not have enjoyed the meal.

I agree, it is. I have had a number of disappointing experiences (although not at Mozaik Bahce I must clearly say  :) ) and have let the establishment know, yet sometimes just paid and left because I can't be bothered or I just don't want to spoil the evening further. It is important that CBF isn't a place where people exclusively come to say nice things about nice things.

One thing is for sure - if you please 100% of the people 100% of the time, someone isn't telling the truth  ;)

I would be interested to know what it was you had, as it wasn't veggie, was the meat you had not good?  As you say it was the worst meal, but you don't say what it was or why it was so bad.
I am sure that Dogan would be terribly upset to know something was not right and would welcome the chance investigate the problem you had.

Thank you Christie for your feedback, as welcome as all the positive reviews we receive. Christie is not the first and no doubt will not be the last to have a different opinion about the meals that we serve but the important thing for us is the distinction between "good" vs "bad" and "like" vs "not to our taste".

One of the drawbacks of having consistently great reviews is that expectations rise and while one person may recommend a place saying that it was the best meal they have ever had another may find that the herbs and spices we use alien and unpalatable.

I am however confident that there was nothing wrong with our meat. We buy the best and most expensive cuts and everything is always fresh when cooked and served; turnover is also extremely high and no meats are around long enough to deteriorate and if they were they would be thrown away.

My worst meal ever was when I was little and my mum made me liver, brussel sprouts and spinach on my birthday: everything I hated most in the world.

Exactly my point earlier -I hope it is clarified at there is such a difference between the two.
I also understand the reluctance to complain on the night as I often prefer to just walk away - definitely if  I just didn't like my meal (as it was my choice and just down to my taste) and certainly if everything was so poor that I had no intention of ever returning.  For the latter, it's like Scunner said, not worth spoiling the evening further.

Christie, I think it was the fact you considered it the worst ever meal that shocked everyone.  I've visited Turkey for holidays 8 times now and eaten out every night so probably around 100 different restaurants and Mozaik ranks in my top 3.  It would be hard to identify the worst as there are probably 20 restaurants deserving of that title - and all in Marmaris!
Of course you should be honest and you have as much right to disagree as others have to praise.....but I guess you expected it to be controversial based on how passionately a large number of people have praised Mozaik to date.

I think that the way people deal with having a bad meal/service is a very interesting one. I'm also keen that debating that doesn't detract this topic from what is (99%) an appreciation of the efforts of Nichola & Dogan. So, I will start a new topic in restaurants to discuss how we deal with a bad meal in general, and hope this one can return to discussing Mozaik Bahce.

Jacqui & Bluwise  -  The meal I had was the chicken casserole - which had all good ingredients in but I just felt the sauce was bland and thin, for me, it just needed a bit more time to thicken and caramalise to bring out all the lovely flavours of the peppers and tomatoes etc.   So this might be put down to wrong choice but nothing wrong with the food.   My husband had the liver kebab, which unfortunately contained four big chunks of solid fat  which you do not expect to find with liver  - and as the lighting (by the beautiful lamps) is quite low, he did not realise (until too late) and actually ate of chunk of fat. It was this meal that he was really disappointed in. However the majority of people going to this restaurant are obviously very happy and enjoy their meals so we accept we are the rare exception.
Title: Mozaic Bahce
Post by: Scunner on October 10, 2011, 11:39:29 AM
In fairness many restaurants serve liver kebap with alternate chunks of fat - don't ask me why - and it seems very popular with the locals! Not for me either but not evidence of poor quality.
Title: Mozaic Bahce
Post by: nichola on October 10, 2011, 11:47:40 AM
Christie, this is useful information for us. I had already spoken to Dogan about the low lighting in parts of the garden and next year there will be improved lighting in areas of the garden that would benefit from more light.

The chicken casserole is by far one of our most popular meals and we can only apologise if the sauce was thinner than it should have been.

Now the liver shish... both the liver and the lamb shish are cooked and served with "chunks of fat".

This is the way that it is cooked in Hatay and there is a simple reason for this. The fat juices bring out the flavours of the meat; some will say that is what gives the meat its taste and it also serves to keep the meat moist during the cooking process.

I too was once caught out with this on my first trip to Antakya. I asked what I was eating with my lamb and even though I was enjoying the taste as soon as I knew what it was I couldn't get it out of my mouth fast enough much to every ones amusement.

Some people love and eat the fat and they are not all from Hatay either, and others clearly don't. If the lighting was better then your husband would have seen the fat and could have made an informed decision before popping it into his mouth.

Thanks for the more detailed feedback.

Unfortunately we had the worse meal we have ever had in Turkey.
I'm not defending nor attacking either party here, just wanting to give my opinion!

The above statement has now had an open & honest answer from Nichola as to why the dishes did not suit Christie & her husband so is that statement still correct or will you (Christie) review the wording now you understand how the dishes are prepared & served?

I've watched this topic with great interest as my 1 experience of Mozaic was 100% positive & was hoping it was more of a taste dislike than bad food served, although I know even the best can get it wrong sometimes.

Imho this situation would have been the perfect opportunity to request some guidance from the staff "there & then" which would have been a better outcome for all concerned.

We had been waiting for some time to try the Mozaik and were disappointed to find it closed on its winter break when we arrived in March, on hearing the restaurant had reopened and the sun was out and the sky was blue today, we decided to visit for lunch. Nichola handed us the menus and explained that there were some new dishes on this year, we particularly liked the description written about each and every dish on the menu and accompaying picture ( all but one shot by Nichola) I could not help thinking that if the food tasted as good as it looked and was how it was described, then this might be a bit special. It certainly was. I did something I can't ever remember doing, I made a conscious effort to order a vegetarian main course, their vegetable sauté and it was absolutely delicious, Chris had a casserole which was also excellent. We shared a desert, which contained walnuts, cinnamon and ice cream which was also lovely and then concluded with a coffee and another first for me, mint tea which were both on the house.

Nichola told us they are planning a grand reopening afternoon where they cook every dish on the menu and so you get to taste everything they do, we have put our names down and really looking forward to that.

I'm sure we will become regulars there from now on, whether it be for a meal or just a snack ( they do a nice wrap and also coffee with special walnut biscuits)

Really enjoyed it today and hope to see other forum members there soon.

THis is a fantastic place and the food is to die for.But to my frustration I have only tried it twice and had to leave early both times. Why ! Cats ,Cats and more cats. Please do not think of me as a cat hater.NO my wife has a fear of them and this may seem funny to some people that find it completly normal to have them running around your feet as you are trying to eat.I only hope they can do something about this as we would love to go there again.I know everyone will say its turkey, its near the fish market and so on.Yet we eat with no worry of cats in many of the places in the fish market. Also why is it exceptable to have any animals in restaurants here. You will not see animals walking around or sitting on chairs in Istanbul eateries.Who is to blame mostly expats could they take their pets in to any restaurant in England or a European destination.I am sure there will be many who think differently but does that make it correct.?

I am sorry to hear about your wife and I know that phoebias are terrible but, I also know the expats are not to blame for stray animals, the ex pats love their pets and look after them.
There are lots of street cats and used to be a lot more before the "Ex pats" i.e. The Animal Aid volunteers started doing a great job re-homing cats(dogs and other assorted animals) and if they cannot do that, the cats are neutered and put back on the streets so hopefully in years to come there will be less and less of them. Read about the good work they do on this Forum. ;)

I can honestly say, that in all the times we have eaten at Mozaic (many, many, many), we have never been hassled by cats !   We saw one a couple of years ago, (Simon I think his name was ?!) but he kept a distance, as like most street cats he was very timid and ran away.   I think you must have been unlucky mac2010  (or very lucky as I actually think, as cats fascinate me and don't worry me in restaurants at all).
Title: Mozaic Bahce
Post by: Scunner on May 09, 2012, 11:03:16 AM
I would also have to say the same as Pookie - I am not friend or foe of cats really but I too really don't like them around the table when eating, I don't mind the dogs so much as they just sit, cats can jump up or even scratch before you know it - but I don't recall any cat problem at the Bahce specifically. People who feed the cats and street dogs from the table cause this, pure and simple.

We were there two and a half times - one lunch, one dinner and one for a quick beer with people we bumped into in Fethiye and if I don't get an OBE for services to the hot pepper bread industry then there's no justice in this World. Had the mixed grill when we went for dinner - simply perfect.

If memory serves, Dogan is not in the World's Top Ten Cat lovers.

If you will forgive the personal nature of the enquiry, did you manage to finish the mixed grill. If so, then I would suggest that is worthy of an OBE also ;)

Mac2010 - I am very sorry that you and your wife had to leave the restaurant early.

Ever since we opened the restaurant 3 years ago we have worked hard with the support and assistance of Animal Aid to reduce the number of street cats in the vicinity and we have been largely successful and just a few remain.

They do usually keep their distance as they are feral and afraid of humans. We try to discourage people from feeding them and if they weren't fed then they would eventually not return.

We do have a water spray for anyone that is afraid of cats to use. Totally harmless to the cats but enough to keep them far away from your table. A nuisance for a while but they soon get the message.

If you would like to come again just let us know and we can equip you with the spray.

Just as an aside cats in the area do serve a useful purpose as they keep rodents at bay :D

I've never seen cats in the restaurant but have seen them out on the street although they never attempt to come in.  I do symapthise with someone who has a phobia as I have cats and my neighbour is like your wife.  We gave her a plant spray container filled with water to fire at the cats if they came near and it really helped her, so much so that she now "quite" likes our cats...so long as they don't come right up to her ;)

Thank you for offering water sprays I like the idea.I just hope that no cat lovers will moan at us if we start to give the little critters a shower. :)Look forward to trying again. PS my comment about expats did not refer to them as the blame for strays but for bringing their own pets to the restaurants.By the way I am an "Expat" so no digs intended.

No problem; glad you mentioned it so we can make your visits more enjoyable - no one has minded seeing the water spray in use. It's totally harmless and your wife is not the only person who has a phobia of cats  :)

There wasn't a cat in sight last night, maybe they heard the news too  ;)

Lovely people, tremendous Turkish cuisine, far superior to anything that Calis has to offer.

We had a lovely meal there last Wednesday evening for our daughter and grandson's last evening in Turkey before they flew home to Australia. The service was good, the staff were friendly, the food was superb as was the atmosphere. Very tranquil and easy to forget we were near a busy road in the middle of Fethiye.

Thank you to Nichola and everyone for a lovely evening.

Only managed to get to lunch there twice this year.  Both times as other visits, food superb, wonderful setting and great service.

Can recommend the home made lemonade for a lovely non-alcoholic refreshing drink too!

Think we managed to crack the problem we had last year - that's eating so much we could hardly walk after.  The food's just too good!   ;)

Had the two best Meals of our visit in the Mozaic, on the first visit I had the Mixed Grill (No way I could eat it all, it was huge) on the 2nd visit I had the Chicken Kebap as the chicken in the Mixed Grill was the most succulent I have had in years and it didn't disappoint a second time ... EVERYONE should visit this restaurant at least once

Also bought one of the lamps, which the lovely lady changed the shade and wrapped in Bubble Wrap for us

Thank You  8)

I'm a bit embarassed to admit that I've been living in Fethiye area for 2,5 years and that only yesterday I have visited Mozaik Bahce.
The food was delicious, the prices very reasonable, the staff friendly, Nicola and Dogan very welcoming (a pleasure to meet you both) and safe for a 2 year old to potter around.
Unfortunately we ate so much that there was no room for dessert  :(

We'll be back, that's for sure.

P.S. Haven't seen a single cat all evening!

We have been twice this summer and failed to get fed.
First time all tables were reserved, we were asked to call back at 9.30
Second time we called at 10pm to be told kitchen closed.
We can't book as we are never on time or even organised enough so will have to miss out as I'm not being turned away again
Title: Re: Mozaic Bahce

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to write a review for this year; it's always good to get your feedback and we do appreciate it.

Sorry to hear you've been unable to get in (twice :() Keng38. Coming early evening is a good way to get a table and usually tables begin to free up again at about 9-9.30pm. Normally it will be no more than a 20-30 minutes wait and we will hold tables for anyone who says they will come back after maybe going for a drink. Depending on how big the group is we can usually accommodate people who want to stay for a drink until a table frees up.

We never book out all tables as we know most people just turn up and often have made a special trip but sometimes all the free tables just get taken early evening.

One of the reasons we restrict how late people can book a table in advance (8pmish) is that we can't hold a table until 9 or 9.30pm when people are turning up at 7-8pm as we have a no hurry policy. Rushing people out of the restaurant to bring in the next cover is no way for anyone to end a relaxing evening meal.

Normally the kitchen closes at about 10.30-10.45pm unless it is for Durum kebabs or just dessert as Turkish people are want to do at that time of night; it just depends on how busy we have been that evening.

Generally things work out well for most people so maybe if you are planning a day out on a boat trip from Fethiye, or after a late afternoon shopping spree you may want to risk trying us again early evening. We would hate to miss out on you!   :)

Anyone who would like to book a table in advance can do this via the CBF message system, our Mozaik Bahçe Facebook page, the mozaikbahce@hotmail.com email address or via Tripadvisor.

Title: Re: Mozaic Bahce
Post by: nichola on August 28, 2012, 10:39:46 AM
OK, this is how we cook Turkish rice at home.

Ingredients

Village butter - available in Turkey is so much nicer than supermarket butter

Şehiye - noodles (short, thin with a golden brown colour)

Any old rice will do

Chicken stock cube - preferably organic which you can buy in the UK but not here

Salt to taste

Method

Melt butter in the pan, add the noodles and quickly stir until brown. These can turn very quickly so be careful not to over cook and burn.

Add the rice (which you will have thoroughly washed first) and stir until the butter is absorbed.

Having mixed and stirred the stock cube with a little warm water so it has properly dissolved add some more water and then add to pan.

Add salt to taste at this point and then stir in thoroughly and then add more water to cover the rice and again stir thoroughly.

Bring to the boil, stir and then let simmer until water has absorbed.

We often turn the heat off towards the end and let the rice rest for about 10 - 20 mins or so with the saucepan lid on to allow any remaining water to absorb and this helps avoids sticky pan bottom too   ;)

Rice should be non sticky and easily separate.

Sadler, Haytalı Bici Bici is a dessert that has a milk base (cut into small squares) topped with rose sorbet and rose syrup. It's very light and refreshing and has a fragrant rose scent.

Here is a photo I got off Google (thanks Jacquie) which illustrates better than the one we have on the menu   :)

Worthy of particular note is their Blackcurrant cordial (and their mulberry one). Fresh, natural and full of goodness. A welcome relief frorm midday sun and humidity.

Good question Lance.

We don't stay open all year but we haven't quite decided when we will close although it will be next month sometime. The last night will be a Saturday and we will stay open as long as it's viable so that depends on how busy we are in November.

As soon as we decide when to close I will post on here and on our Mozaik Bahçe Facebook page.

John I did post on the request for sutures topic that it was the 24th November but Doğan is still deliberating (or dithering) now... and it might be the 17th November instead.

Just a note for next year we will be opening about one week earlier than usual because Easter is in March and of course I'll be posting information about when nearer the date.

I just wanted to let you know I have posted the full menu for 2013 on the Mozaik Bahçe Facebook page - follow the link below to view.

We reopen on Thursday 28th March which is just a couple of weeks away now.

I also wanted to let you know that I will give a days notice on when we will advertise the date for our popular "taster" opening party day so that those that wish to come along know to look out for it. It will be posted here on CBF first and then 30 minutes later on our FB page and will be a booking only event.

And for the benefit of newcomers to CBF and to avoid disappointment we only serve dishes and desserts from Hatay, a south eastern region of Turkey close to the Syrian border; the only exception are the children's meals. No international cuisine or British breakfasts or roast dinners.

We are very much looking forward to this summer season and seeing so many of you again who are much more than customers, more like family and old friends.

Whether we see you or not have a fantastic time here on your holidays  :D

Had a wonderful meal there this week.I recommend the lamb kebap, humous and pepper bread and a new red wine on the menu, cumartesi similar to  a merlot. Very nice.Dogan was his usual lovely self and the new waitress was really friendly and attentive. Oh and mozaic kebap recommended as we speak  :)  top marks as always. Thanks Nichola for the tourist info you lent us, was great to chat.xxx

We loved this place on our first visit to the area last year. Friendly attentive staff, who were not in your face if you no what I mean.
The lady owner(sorry did not catch her name)  came after us into the street to thank us, as she missed us leaving.  And the main thing was the food and presentation were first class.  Top of my 'to do' list when we go to Calis again   :)

Not sure that the menu has ever been published on here or indeed on facebook.

To whet your apetite here is one of the starters  :)

lol John that's not a starter  :o

Kevin, you can view all our starters, main meals and desserts here - it is not necessary to be a member of Facebook to view our page or menu. Re prices I think I can safely say that you will be pleasantly surprised by our prices. Our most expensive dish is the mixed grill - 4 skewers of meat plus veg 26TL

I was surprised that the lady owner of mozaik bahce sat around talking all the time when we were there a couple of days ago.

Luckily it was with us, nice to see Nichola sitting down relaxing for a change! Lovely seeing you all again and as usual the food wasn't bad either.

Was introduced to Mozaik by our apartment hosts 2 weeks ago and we returned for a further visit just before returning to the UK.

Great food (we appreciate spicy   :) ), relaxed setting and some nice touches. The pashminas on a slightly chilly evening are a lovely idea.

Well done all of you at Mozaik on being No1 Fethiye restaurant on Trip Advisor. I reckon it's probably deserved.

Spent 2 lovely evening here this holiday. The food is amazing, so well presented that it looks like a picture on a plate.  The service from the team is admirable, they all work hand in hand.  Nicola is one of the most laid back people I have met and there's such a calmness about her.  It's lovely to see the place busy each time we've been there. Dogan and Nicola are the perfect hosts.

I'd agree with that Toky. We were there this evening and the place was buzzing but Nichola and Dogan still found the time to chat to people and be fantastic hosts. Their staff was really friendly and jolly too. Must be a lovely place to work. The food is really delicious. Every mouthful is a joy. I had the Mozaic Kebab. Fantastic flavours and beautiful on the plate. Thanks Mosaik Bahce.

We were there again last night too! We normally go in the daytime but we wanted to use our lucky winning Charity Auction bid for a special evening meal. It was fabulous as usual and very, very busy. Nichola, Dogen and all the staff there are always happy, helpful and so friendly, making us all feel very special. Magical.
