To use a Turkish sim card you will need an unlocked phone then you will need to register it at phone shop then buy credit. If you are not using mobile much just get a phonecard & use payphone.

Another option is to use the free phones in some cafes.I know Cafe Pazar and I think Cafe Inn  both near the Sunday market have this facility. Just buy a drink of some sort and the call is free.

As long as you are calling a landline in UK. Alan

If you have an iTouch use Truphone - cost is really low. SIM4 travel also really good - replace your existing phone sim with one of these

..Or a wifi phone with the Skype app downloaded and ready to use - much less bulky than a laptop ;)

You can also buy phone cards from the PTT.They are called ALOCARD and cost 5TL. For this you get 55 minutes to the U.K.This is far cheaper than the 100 kontor cards. Also you can use them on your Turkish landline. We use them all the time as it keeps our phone bill down.

For anybody calling the UK from a landline in Turkey, if you enter either 1045 or 1095 before the number you get a reduced rate for your call.  Think it is instead of being 7 kurus a minute it takes it down to 3 kurus.

Works through Turk Telekom so no extra bills either!

Jenny,

No Skype can be used on almost any laptop/computer/mobile phone that is wifi enabled - and its free. You need to download the program for your laptop and a mobile version for your phone. I use nimbuzz as well as skype. Both are free and easy to use.

It's free to talk to others who are on line and have skype or nimbuzz and if you want to just phone a landline you can but they do charge.

Prices?
