Title: Disabled facilities
Post by: Ben Hur on July 28, 2009, 22:13:28 PM
Hi all, I'm coming to Calis Beach in September with my family. I use a wheelchair and was wondering what the facilities were like for the disabled and are there many disabled toilets in bars and restaurants. 8)

Hi - not sure which places are best for wheelchairs. I know some toilets on the front are downstairs and some you have to climb a few.

Dawn Beech might be OK - I'm sure Tinx will be able to confirm. I'm sure there must be many more though.

Hi Ben, welcome to the forum, as Stoop says Dawn Beach is fine as far as getting in and out of for food and drink, unfortunately they only have regular toilets which are too small for wheeelchair access.

The only hotel I know with disabled facilities is in Ovacik and is called Halcyon Days.

Welcome to the forum Ben.  I guess if you're going to Calis in September, you are already sorted with a hotel?   :)

Yes thanks, we're staying in a large villa with our family. It's our first holiday abroad since becoming disabled so feeling a bit apprehensive. There will be 8 of us so I'm sure we will manage o.k Thanks for all the friendly greetings.

hi, ben hur, haven't been to calis for a holiday, only passed through, we were staying in hisaronu and it was brilliant. my husband has mobility problems but doesn't use a wheelchair so i can't tell you where to go to, but thought i'd let you know that there are public toilets in hisaronu BUT they are down steep steps! (hisaronu isn't far from calis) but also that we were on a trip that included the mud baths (there are lots of different ones) and the restaurant there had a lift down as well as the stairs, so there are facilities for disabled but you will probably have to ask wherever you go to. as you have been ill you are probably going at the best time because it may be a bit cooler. we are going near bodrum last 2 weeks september as my hubby can't cope with the heat july/august. he's had health problems for the last 5 years too. people are very helpful, just ask. have a good holiday!

Sounds like you have a positive attitude when you are willing to go for new experiences.  Enjoy your holiday and treat any hassles as a learning curve.  The friendliness of the people will more than make up for any problems.  Don't be afraid to ask for help.
