It does seem very odd as he is an experienced walker and was properly equipped. I just hope he turns up fit and well very soon.

Missing 6 days. I don't think it's going to have a happy ending.

I hope his family who are still in Ovacik do not ever get to read the 2 posts above. They must be worried enough without others making those types of comments.
Eric who is experienced in search & rescue situations has said that the more days that pass the outcome looks less hopeful.
We hope that he is found soon for the families sake.

I've also had enough of  experience of these type of things, and like it or not, as I said previously, the chances by now of this having a happy ending are pretty remote.

The fella is either dead or doesn't want to be found.

No doubt the Jandarma have or are continuing to question whether he and/or his wife have a motive for the disappearance.

That's the reality of it and I'm sure his family are quite aware of it without having to read it on here or elsewhere.

Isn't it also a little odd that NOBODY on CBF appears to recognise him or even his name?

Doesn't look good does it?

It's strange how people can just 'disappear'. They are still no nearer finding the young woman from York who went missing in March.

And, then there's the case of John Darwin who disappeared in his canoe in March 2002, and then "re-surfaced" in December 2007.

Would anyone be interested in doing a search/walk party in the area?
it would have to include  someone who knows the area well, maybe covering outlaying areas that may not have been covered in the present search?

I've walked in that area several times and the Lycian Way is very well marked. However, once you get off of the marked pathway there are some treacherous drops and hundreds of places into which a person/body could disappear.

I'm pretty sure that AKUT and the Jandarma have far better resources and local knowledge of the area than any of us. They'll have villagers from Kirme and Faralya, and local walking guides, who have intimate knowledge of the terrain working with them in a methodical search. They're also using microlights and a helicopter to assist in the search.

I don't think we'd be doing them any favours by turning-up and doing our own thing and I doubt that they'd be willing to share information about un-searched outlying areas with "outsiders" at this stage.

They have extensively covered the area of the walk and the surrounding areas, plus, just about anywhere else they think he could have wandered to.
The local villagers have been helping, as have the staff at the Dolphin and even some of the guests.
We can just hope that he turns up safe and sound.

Daily Mail today.

'The wife of a Briton missing in Turkey fears he may have been kidnapped by bandits' I personally don't think that comments like this help his cause and are misleading. I too have walked that section, I have never seen any Bandits but plenty of places to disappear if your not careful. Does anybody know what time of day he started his walk?

He set of at 10am and was expecting to be back by 4pm or 6pm (Times differ according to which paper you read)

I really hope he is found safe and well.

I really think though that walking for 6 -8 hours in that sort of area, in that heat, on your own and at 67 years of age is not something I would want to risk. I wouldn't be worried about 'bandits' more about getting into difficulties when alone and maybe finding myself out of range for the mobile signal.

There's almost 100% coverage for mobiles along the entire 500 kms of the Lycian Way.

As for going out walking in those conditions for 6 - 8 hours, I agree with you Stoop, it's foolhardy.

Oops try again.... We walked along that path for approx and hour in August last year and had to turn back as it was too hot, we always do our walking now in the colder months.

I was thinking on your own as well.

Good there is mobile coverage though.

Apparently, the investigators have also established that his mobile wasn't switched on when he set off and it hasn't been switched on since then.

I read on the BBC news that he was reported to have lost his camera and some local people directed him to a bus stop where he could catch a bus to Ovacik.

Are there any photographs that could be put on this forum of the lost man?

I wonder if he has any form of identity on him such as a passsport, so that if he was confused by the heat or an accident he could be identified.

What about some posters being produced with his photograph on it asking if anyone has seen him?

Has anyone asked the bus drivers on the route up that way if they remember picking him up?

Do any forum members travel on the bus that would pass that way?

Would it be worth putting his photograph on the Calis site as I bet more people read that one.
