I read about this numpty in a London paper this morning,he deserves to be thrown out lets hope it was the start of his hols : :)

I did think if a similar incident happened say in front of a royal statue in London by a foreigner it would be a human rights and compensation issue [:(!]

Almost certainly this young man had no idea who Ataturk was or his place in Turkish history.
He was just execising his 'right' to do exactly what he wanted to do with no consideration for others.
Probably if he was asked about any political/religious/military leader or social reformer in the entire history of the UK he would not possess the knowledge to make any response.
His fault alone?
I think that, unfortunately, he is a product of modern Britain.
Despite my,possibly, sympathetic post I think Puma's definition of him is perfect.

JohnH, your post echoes my original thoughts. I wondered whether he knew much about where he was, even what country. He has taken a holiday in the Med, with sand, sun, cheap booze - would it matter thether is was Ibiza, Malia, Fakiraki, or Marmaris as long as it was a cheap package? Then I read today's article in The Telegraph where (according to them) his own explanation was "I don't know why I did it". Hmmm.

Having looked at my post again I have to add that it was not a condemnation of all young Britons.

I think the Court was too lenient.A spell in jail might have woken him up.
