My husband who is Irish made a point of going into the Irish Bar when it opened and ordered a Guinness, but, of course, ended up with an Efes.  However, with all the lamb in Turkey I suppose they could make a big pot of Irish Stew and everyone could drink Irish Whiskey and think about the Black Stuff.

Of course the best place to drink it would be in the most famous and beautiful Victorian Irish Bar in the world in Belfast, The Crown,  we have the pleasure of sitting in one of the booths and having Irish Stew, Champ and Guinness.... Bliss  Have a look  http://www.crownbar.com/  I bet they will be having big celebrations.

Totally agree Jacqui - I have spent many happy evenings in The Crown playing Liar Dice with the locals (and losing). I stayed at the Europa Hotel which is across the road and at that time was known as the "Most Bombed Hotel in the World". I met Frank Carson in the residents bar one night after he had done a gig at the Civic Hall. I didn't get to bed until 4AM with my sides splitting - he never stopped telling jokes one after the other.

Oh Happy Days!

I didnt realise you couldnt get guinness in Calis freely....when we went to the irish bar on St Patricks day there were loads of guinness promotional hats, glasses etc that we were all wearing......we all drank plenty of efes. I think it should be celebrated in the irish bar just for the hell of it just cause we cant drink it we can still celebrate its birthday and its  an excuse for a party...can anyone suggets it to them.:D

karen...just read this thread. This is Ronnie from the irish bar in fethiye. We didnt have and maybe should have had a party regardless whether their was guinness or not.we got no response from customers on this at all which was surprising for us so we didnt have  a special night.if we get guinness from abroad it would be pointless as we would have to charge alot .so sorry again for missing the big day itself. We are proud to say we officially sell irn bru ... not the same as a guinness but boy what a drink...especially for hangover!
