Title: Places to visit on the Dolmus
Post by: Rimms on September 13, 2009, 16:39:43 PM
I often stand on the road leading from Fethiye waiting to get the Dolmus back to Calis. When I see all of the destination names in the window of the other busses, I often wonder where and what the place is like.

As we are over there for a month from next Friday, we have decided to take some trips to these unknown destinations, but rather than take a random choice, I wonder if anyone can offer some advice.

We have been to the the obvious places, Gemiler, Gunkuklu, Katranchi, Gocek, Kaya, Hisaronu, Olu Deniz, Saklikent, Tlos, Yaka Park & Dalyian.

Cheers

Rimms

Try the Yuruk Museum at Ciflik.

Get a dolmus out to Faralya and Kabak and either just chill or walk part of the Lycian Way

Seki is also a nice ride and if you wanted to you could go on from there to Elmali.

You've been to Kaya, but if you haven't been to Gemiler it's worth getting a Kaya dolmus and staying on all the way down to Gemiler.

There's Kalkan and Kas.

I'll let someone else have a turn now.

KayaKoyOldBoy,
We are over for a week in October and aim to walk Kaya to The Lagoon again, can you please give me a little more info on the walk to The Old Monastary Ruins that you offer to take people along to.  We will be 4 adults of middle ages and 2 girls (12 & 8) but the girls are good walkers, 7 -8 miles of the South Downs in Hampshire is good for them, so please do not be put off if their are hills involved, will I find a link on the Fethiye Times Website?  Many thanks  Carol

The walk from our starting to the monastery ruins is only about 4 kms but there's a steep walk down and subsequently a steep walk back up. Yes you'll find the link in the Fethiye Times.

If you want I'll be happy to accompany you out to Af Kule. We can fix a date and there maybe other members who are out at the same time who'll be interested in joining us.

That would be very kind of you, thank you for your offer. Will get together with our friends this week and get dates that they are free and come back to you, did not do any long walks in August it was too hot.

I've only visited Fethiye, Olu Deniz and Gunlukbasi on the dolmus.

Might do Hisaronu and go clubbing! lol :D

KayaKoyu, I don't about you, but I've gone off normal tea since I've had the apple stuff.

Well, good for you.  ;)

Don't forget that "No apples were used in the production of this beverage".

Hi have found the link in Fethiye Times, would it be possible to take you up on your offer of showing us the way?  (in anticipation of the correct answer I have purchased a small box of Yorkshire tea bags today!)  We travel on hand laggage so our weight limit is always a stressful time, with hubby demanding that we travel light!  But with 2 daughters we need lots of weight!  Anyway I digress, we land Oct 24th so the Mon, Tues, Weds or Thurs are good for us, we will go with what suits you best as it is kind of you to give up your precious time fo us.
Always enjoy reading your quotes on this forum, hopefully we will have a good walk.
Will await your reaponse and then forward you our Turkish mobile number incase you are unable to make it on the day etc.
We will be over in beautiful quiet Ciftlik, so will take the Dolmus over, and meet you at the meeting point which is ?????
Once again, thanks for your kind offer

Short answer from we saw you can get damn near anywhere by Dolmus!

Bit like catching trains in UK when we had a railways system years ago!

From Calis Beach we went to Fethiye obviously, but there we "changed" Dolmus and went to Ouludeniz, but we could have gone to Sahklikent, Tlos, etc. (The two Domus stations yards apart) and at Sahklikent we could have picked up a Dolmus to Kalkan, and from Kalkan to Kas etc. (would be easier to get the a/c bus point to point where appropriate of course.)

Bit like getting cross country routes on trains at home, if you are prepared for the trip to take longer rather than the "express".

Best way to really get around is to rent a car if you really like to see everything, can highly recommend contacting Nicki Bulan on this site.

Any of those days in October are fine with me.

Pick a date, and I'll publish it on here and a couple of other forums to see if anyone else is interested in joining us.

Thats great news, thank you very much, shall we say the Tuesday, then that still gives us Wednedsday to maybe do Kaya to Olu Deniz via Kale Park, which I have already printed of from here, maybe we could pick your brains on the Tuesday for other good walks.

The girls have new binoculars from Lidls (£5.00 pr) so they can spot the birdlife on the way, will bring them over and leave behind for future trips.

Will look out on the forum for times etc, nearer the day.

Many thanks

Ha ha!
Well if you want them, we can come to an arrangement!
Say house & pool maintenance for a year!  Sounds good to me!
Youngest one up with sunrise can walk a good 8 miles
Oldest one likes to get up with sunset - moans at more than 10 feet of walking!(only joking, once she is out in Fethiye - she comes alive - her Turkish is quite good, so she takes the lead and gets us out of any scrapes!
Be good to see you on the walk.

Ermmmmmmmm.... Are you sure? Might be an idea to check your map mate!

Or do you mean Kale Park to Oludeniz via Kaya ?  ;)

Anyway, Tuesday 27th October will be OK for the Af Kule walk. We'll meet at 3pm at the Af Kule turning on the Kaya Koyu to Gemiler Beach road.

Anyone else who wants to join us will be very welcome.
