I don't know if sprouts are seasonal, i would think so, are they a winter veg, if so, winter where, as winters tend to be different times around the world, so in a roundabout way, i'd like to know when sprouts are on sale in Fethiye :D Alan

We saw some at the Friday market Alan but they were large ones, we prefer smaller ones not as strong tasting

There are sprouts available at the moment. Have a delve into the sacks and you'll find large, medium and small. Migros, Tansas, Carrefour do them pre-packed in trays too.
The Turkish for Brussel Sprouts is Brüksel Lahanasi.
-
They are on sale at Patlangic market. Brian the gardener was selling swede!! on his stall at the car boot on Sunday. mmmmm!!! swede. sad I know.
-
I bought the biggest swede ever from Brian the Gardener at the Calis Car Boot Sale on Sunday :)

I know Brianthegardner - I must ask him to bring me some 8)
A guide to seasonal veg would be quite useful so that people know what is in season and what is at it's best and when. 8)
-
Was it Brian from Village Garden, Nif-Arpacik, who was selling the swedes last year, or Brianthegardener, two different people.
Baz 8)
-
same person
-
Oh dear, Brian from nif (manubrian) is a banned member on here, Don't hold much hope for Brianthegardener if it is the same person :o :o
I don't think it is the same person as I believe Brianthegardener lives in Ovacik. I may be wrong.

I don't think they are one and the same.
It was Brian from village garden selling the swedes and very tasty they are. Hopefully he'll have parsnips later on :D

My grandad used to say that sprouts were no good till they had had a frost on them. Not much chance of that in Fethiye.

Am told by Brian 1 (or Brian 2 [?]) that the parsnips will be ready in 6 weeks [^]

Do they sell sweet potatoes out here does anyone know?[?]
-
No but you can buy normal potatoes and you can buy sugar :)
I'm sorry, I haven't a clue. Isn't it parsnips that need a frost to bring the sweetness, rather than brussells?
-
sprouts are at there best with a bit of frost on them not parsnips keith :)
-
yes, a bit of frost makes your parsnip droopy....
-

They are definitely available and I have a massive one sitting in my veg drawer in the fridge to prove it. All I now need to know is can I chop it up, blanch it for a few mins and freeze it and how long will it keep? I have never had frozen swede before.

Brian from Village Garden in Nif grows the swede. He's even trying rhubarb too now! I have his email address if anyone wants it.
-
lance, cut up your swede, blanch it for a couple of minutes in boiling water, put it straight into cold water, then drain it and when it's cooled bag it up and freeze it.

Just a quick tip.If you put a tablespoon of sugar in the cooking water instead of salt your sprouts taste like baby sprouts whatever their size. :)
-
Yum Yum thanks for the tip.
