Title: Favourite restaurant for 2009
Post by: karaokemark on October 15, 2009, 20:18:09 PM
We have had lots of freinds and family over this year and all agreed Gunislik (Frank Cannons) is the best value for money restuarant in the area, run by really freindly staff.
In these tight times the set meals are great value for money
ie.
Fresh trout homemade chips and salad + a glass of wine or beer 10tl
Meatballs homemade chips and salad + a glass of wine or beer 10tl
Chicken curry rice chips and salad + a glass of wine or beer 16tl
lots of other set menus when you consider a glass of wine is 5tl or a beer 4tl the value for money is superb.
THis place gets our vote for best restaurant of 2009

Can't disagree Mark, the meals at Frank Cannon's are excellent and the prices are probably the best in Calis. If this is a topic about the BEST restaurant in Calis, we particularly enjoyed the meals at the Meeting Point this year - in fact, we have been there as 'tourists' more times this year than in the 5 years of living out there.

If it is a topic about the restaurant of the year for Calis and beyond, nothing to me comes close to Kale Park for the full evening experience, but always a place in our hearts for the lower key (and prices) at Ocakbasi.

Scunner, is the Kale Park still open late October, and would we need to book?  We are meeting some friends in Fethiye on the 28th/29th and this would be a nice place to go, as we haven't yet been there.  Would it be too cool in the evening though to enjoy the views?   :)

Can't wait - a whole week's holiday with no teenagers!   :o:D[:o)]

I have to agree Scun that Kale Park is good, however, there is one better and that is the Sundial. A group of us went last week and the meal and service were superb, the views stunning (you get a better view of Fethiye & Calis than at Kale Park) and to top it off you have the infinity pool & hot tub.

Directions: From the Otogar take the road to Hisaronou, at the traffic lights where you join the Hisaronou/ Olu Deniz road go straight ahead and take the road slightly to the left. Follow this road and half way up the hill is a sign for the Sundial. You appear to be going into the back of beyond but will arrive in the car park.

Right - ours based on my key criteria of value for money: Nil Bar in Calis (never had a bad meal yet in about 30 attempts!) - Zakuum in Fethiye and the Kultur Cafe near the harbour for a cheap but nice meal with a drink!  :)

Tinx - I think we mean it is set in a small garden / walled park and although the road is close by you feel as though you are in a peaceful setting which is also unexpected on such a busy main road - hope that makes sense!

Col - correct me if I am wrong?

Ps In the winter you eat inside!!! :D

Yes Ian, totally agree and at night, you don't really notice the traffic and sometimes far better than hundreds of people walking past & easy enough to fine a nice quiet table in the garden

For 2009 my vote goes to Oben restaurant.Good traditional home cooking
and they even prepared a special vegetarian meal for us one evening.
The meals requested werent on their menu, but no problem for them with 24 hrs notice.
Roll on 2010 till I can sample the many Calis restuarants again and give my 2010 vote!

I must admit they do a great all day English breakfast at the Zakkum and their fish and chips are also pretty good but there are so many good restaurants, serving all different types of food in the area, that we are totally spoiled. I certainly would not like to choose what I think is the best as I do not know how you can compare a friendly traditional Turkish restaurant against a high class Italian - its horses for courses and they all have their place.

Yes Lance, my husband said it's the best liver and onions he ever tasted.   Also it nice to get a large glass full of wine instead of the small glasses given in other restaurants in Calis.

How about a 'reply with quote' for dummies example ?
Have read the above link and still have no idea, never mind about 'not here' 'or here' '[quote / quote i ]
How about:.
1) click on .....
2) hilight bit you need to quote, by doing this........
3) press button ....

Sure I am not the only one struggling.

Also know when I do get it right, I will be sitting here thinking, What an idiot you are.
Best Regards.

Since I'm still up

1. Just reply in the quick reply box (below) - there is no need to quote anyone 99% of the time.

2. If you really must, click the "reply with quote" button

3. Leave the quote tags alone. If it were ok to remove a bracket there wouldn't be one there in the first place.

4. Write you bit UNDER the quoted text and quote tags. Not before it, not in it, not just before the second quote tag. After and below the second tag

5. If you only want to quote part of the message that is inside the quote tags, delete the bits you don't want to quote but leave both quote tags intact.
