Title: Communal Water Meter
Post by: milorni on October 26, 2009, 17:56:32 PM
In a small block of apartments, does the communal water have to run off a resident's water supply or can it be separate? When we originally moved in, our communal water was on it's own meter and pipe, then it was moved onto one of the resident's supplyonce all teh apartments had been sold. This is causing problems as that resident then is responsible for the supply and when they are not in Turkey and turn their water off at the mains, it is continually being turned back on for watering the gardens etc. Has anyone any idea if the supply can be put back onto it's original pipe that seems to have nothing attached to it now or do we have to have it connected to an actual apartment's supply?

That is a bit out of order really if I were the resident I would get it disconnected. There must be a way of getting a meter fitted and the bill going to the maintenance contractor then added to you're yearly charges. You could all chip in and get a well sunk then there is no bill for the gardens

It has now been removed but it is where to re-site it now? Does it need to be re-connected to another apartment's supply or is it easy enough to have a separate connection for communal water only.

Can you sink a well and use that instead?

Had a similar problem here, as in.....all the owners wanted to pay a  three year communal bill to the water company, as the builder had never registered it. When we tried to sort it out, we were told a new pipe and water meter would have to be re-routed to one of the owners apt's and paid for like that. Trying to be honest and pay for a three year bill has not worked for us and is costly to get a plumber in, new meter re-routed etc. Why oh why can the water company just not accept that we want to register it to one of the owners and pay what we owe is beyond us. Espcially when everything is already in place.
Good luck with trying to sort it, we would be interested in your final outcome.

So it is common practice then to attach to an owner's supply? That is what we have been trying to ascertain as there is a separate pipe that it used to be attached to but has now got nothing on it.The builder moved evrything when he registered it to us and I know he is about to d ot he same in another of his blocks and those residents are being faced with the same problem.
How much does it cost to sink a well and can we fill the pool form this?

Search on the forum about costs, it will depend though on how deep they need to drill

We have the same problem and now use communal water from the tank as you are not allowed a seperate water meter unless you have a tapu so would have to be in one owner,s name

We all have tapus so that would suggest then that we should be able to have a seperate water meter?

No I think Sarah meant you can't have a seperate water meter that isn't linked to a tapu. I paid 950 lira a few years back for a well/pump to be installed. You really should look at this as your best option. It will save you money and pay for itself quite quickly if you are using the water for the gardens and filling the pool. It may well be more than 950 lira now but still a sensible investment.

Thanks Scunner, It does seem to be the best idea, now to try to get everyone else to agree to it!!

Also depends on where you are.  If we wanted to sink a well would cost a forturne as they would have to drill too far down, you pay for the mwtreage, ok in Calis as below the water table but in Ovacik above the valley is difficult.

We're in Tuzla and the neighbours have got one so I'm hoping not too drastic a job.

It cost us 840tl in 2007 to have a well sunk, however, it took almost a year before it had settled sufficiently to use for the pool
